FAQ Should I worry about Squirrels and my Bat House?

I have a few wasp nesting in the playground , I added wire mesh to stop it

I have bats behind a hole under the siding. Can I locate a bat house near by for them to relocate? Will they do so willingly? If not, will they relocate if I plug up the hole while they are out at night?

I squirrel proofed my bird feeders by wrapping smooth metal dryer vent material around the post and wrapping a larger diameter section of stove pipe about 5 feet up. I haven't had a squirrel on my feeder in two years. I think that would work on a bat house pole. Also, squirrels are vermin. A .22 rifle with CCI Quiet Ammo may be your last resort.

That will work and if the bat house is properly placed away from a tree line, it would be difficult for the squirrels to jump the gap too.

Which house do you recommend for zone 7a (0 to 5° F minimum in the winter)? We're looking at either Bat House Kit - Three Chamber - BCI Certified or Bat House Kit - Three Chamber - Cold Weather - BCI Certified.

Bats will typically leave to go hibernate or head south in the winter and not use a bat house. Bat houses should be based on the average summer temperatures. What about Wasp nesting?

When I knock the wasps down I do it at night with a 10' stick of 1/2" PVC, bats are generally not home and the wasps are sluggish. Otherwise, clean them off in the winter when the wasps are away and knock them down early before wasps can build up in the spring.
