Far Cry 4 is an action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One video game consoles, and Microsoft Windows. The sequel to the 2012 video game Far Cry 3, it is the fourth installment in the Far Cry series. The game was released in North America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe on November 18, 2014. It will be also released on January 22, 2015 in Japan.
The single-player campaign takes place in Kyrat, a fictional region based on the Himalayan regions of Nepal, which is ruled by the despotic king Pagan Min. The player character is Ajay Ghale, a Kyrati-American who is returning to his homeland to disperse his deceased mother's ashes. No sooner does he arrive in Kyrat is he dragged into a civil war that is raging between Pagan Min and the rebel organization known as the Golden Path. The player has free choice in choosing which force he sides with, resulting in different endings.

Personally, I don't think Ajay was necessarily despicable, but was more or less the most boring protagonist on the planet. He's thrown into this war, and basically bides any task thrown at him so he can "help" out.

I have those same feelings about Ajay. Aside from his motivation to release his mom's ashes, he as a character himself just comes off as uninteresting and barely has any agency in the missions being given to him by Sabal and Amita.

The greatest complaint i have with FC4 is the fact, that the intro is so great, over the top like a 70s Grindhouse/Bollywood action movie, while the rest of the game never even closely resembles this feeling. The game would be much more fun and interesting, if you indeed would've blown shit up with Pagan Min. Instead you get a rather boring storyline with two factions, that never interested me, even if they had reasonably motives. Also the main protagonist is dull and a complete empty shell. I wanted to love this game, because the first 15 minutes promised a badass, selfaware and simply fun game like Blood Dragon, but everything after that just took itself way to seriously. And as gggmanlives stated, the absence of Pagan Min, a unique and very fun badguy, hurts the game big time. FarCry 4 could've easily pulled it off that you work with the antagonist, instead of fighting against this charismatic person and for two pretty uninteresting siblings. The most annoying thing though was the radio and it's host, because everything repeated way too often. At times, i could easily dubbed the radio host, because it was so repetetive. This totally destroys the immerson. But then again, that's what's Ubisoft is famous for with their animations (Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed) that loop endless times.

Can't believe how many assets they re-used for this. Identical animations, sounds and even a lot of the weapons are identical to FC3. Blood dragon has more innovation than this game.

This game has been sitting in my library for about 2 years now. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I discovered it was much more fun than I had originally thought. My favorite moment of the game so far was when you were in a drug induced coma running through fields of rose colored grass, and killing a bunch of dudes wearing masks along side a majestic white tiger.

It's a real shame that FC 4 is so similar to 3. 2 was a fairly ambitious game even if it was quite underwhelming and 3 was a real attempt to fix a lot of faults of 2. As soon as I saw FC 4 I thought it would end up being FC 3.5.

Let's break this down a bit. One of the biggest complaints about FC2 was the amount of enemies and how quickly they respawned, so it made sense there was less in 3 (even though there isn't enough). In both 2 and 3 you perform the same task over and over to get better weapons. Only difference, like you said is that you have to pay for them in 2. In 2 and 3 you drive vehicles around an open world environment. Sure you may repair more in FC2 but the basic concept is the same. 2's campaign is probably one of the big differences to 3. To be honest both were lackluster. 2 had repetitive missions and the feeling you're getting fucked over by everyone you met. 3 was unable to draw me into any characters except fcr Vaas who was not in the game enough. I can agree with weapon balance somewhat, but some of the weapons in FC2 got pretty useless in the higher difficulties (like the dart gun for example), but it still did a much better job than FC3.

Just another note, when I say attempt to fix a lot of faults of 2, doesn't mean I think they did actually fix them. I really think FC3 could have done with more enemies. 2 had too many (at least on the higher difficulties where you only had enough ammo to get pass 1 or 2 checkpoints). To be honest that there is 'middle ground' between FC 2 and 3 that would make the 'perfect' Farcry game. Sadly Ubishit probably won't look for it and just milk the fuck out of the franchise.

Dan Slash Bit late, but no. Didn't like the shooting mechanics and the retarded MURICA story in FC3 and since FC 4 is the same shit all over for full price, I passed on this one. Finished another FC 2 run in the meantime though and even went on diamond hunts for hours on end, dunno why it is so satisfying. ^^

Far Cry 2 had such potential. If they brought back the african setting and some of the realistic features/systems and expanded upon the buddy system, the factions system, and weapon degradation and spend the actual time to make a cohesive story with the same size and open world of these newer far crys it would be incredible.

As much as I enjoyed FC3, some your complaints are very true like animals being able to run and hit you despite shooting them multiple times or hitting them with an arrow, like you said. I'm also sick of Ubisoft adding forced stealth. For the most part, they are some of the better devs of putting in stealth in action games, but having the stealth be forced is not how it should be implemented. I don't really remember having enemies noticing you that quickly if you are not in a bush, but they were a lot of bushes in FC3 and a lot of cover as a whole. I do agree about the about the arrows and sniper shots, but in FC3 outpost clearing got much easier with a silenced sniper. Also, why did they pull a Vaas AGAIN?

It's pretty realistic that enemies will know your general location if you're less than 100 yards away shooting a high powered rifle with a silencer. They aren't all that "silent" IRL, still plenty loud enough for them to hear plus they are gonna hear the impact of the missed round hitting whatever. A high powered rifle usually is still so loud with a suppressor that you'll still need hearing protection and if it's not subsonic ammo you're also gonna have a loud "crack" sound when the bullet breaks the sound barrier. TLDR: rifle silencers aren't silent by any means. Neither are pistol silencers, but they can be pretty quiet.

You make some valid points... I was scouting an outpost, got attacked by a tiger, and all of a sudden it was raining accurate mortar fire, for fucking miles... An hour later I re-scouted the outpost and they were STILL on alert and calling re-enforcements... WTF. Still the game so far is brilliant, really good fun... And I love all the side quests and collecting, its one of the reasons I buy games like it! I seem to be lucky I've experienced no stuttering and minimal pop in.

You're too right on a lot of this...but you forgot something that I encountered far too many times: using the wing suit is suicide at least 50% of the time because evidently the tree object boxes are pretty wide and extend above the top of the tree itself. I've died a few dozen times due to clipping a single pine needle.

And finally you have the semi automatic sniper rifle back from Far Cry 2 The AS-50. Only here it's dubbed SA-50. The best all around weapon in this game though, is the Buzzsaw. It is like a powerful minigun with a really large magazine. You even can do some sniping with it. Basically with the Buzzsaw you don't have to fear anyone or anything.

GmanLives well I can’t deny that’s a fair point, I personally didn’t but I did see content from it on launch and I did see enough that some aspects of the game was sort of broken, like the grappling which you had to change keybindings to get it working each time. Honestly I would expect a patch to fix minor stuff like the glitches and bugs but if those where such a big deal you should have spent more time talking about it no offense.like some patches are hardly going to change the stealth mechanics and the side content and main missions which where a big part of your complaint. Also hostile animals popping up at the worst possible time is kinda the point. I also think that saying it’s 50/50 with the good and the bad is being to harsh. But that’s about it

Is the gunplay improved? I found the guns in Far Cry 3 had very little recoil and felt and sounded like peashooters. Also what about the climbing up slopes thing? Far Cry 3 had an annoying issue where your character would slide back when he tried to climb relatively shallow rocky slopes. Then there's the issues you mentioned in the video too. Other than that, 3 was fun.

Am I the only person that is noticing in a lot of these new video games they are trying WAAAAY too hard to be fucking edgy with the dialogue and some of the scenes? The dialogue in modern games is just shit with everyone being edgy as fuck, there are scenes that are really out of fucking place (The American guy on the 50cal Technical in this game) and the really fucking stupid drug scenes that show you that the directors/developers have never taken drugs before, but WOOOAH 420 EVRYDAY LETS PLAY SOME SHITTY DUBSTEP WITH RASTA INFLUENCES YO! (Seriously, why can't any video game do drug effects correctly? It wouldn't actually be that hard for a game, some colour changes, breathing and melting environment, fractals, would look awesome.) Far Cry 4 (along with many other AAA games) is filled with this shit and instantly takes me right out of the game.

From what I can tell from the trailer Battlefield Hardline seems to be following this trend. I'm guessing that the main issue is that video game writers just aren't as good as those as ones that work on film and television. Even graphic novels and comic books have better dialogue than games at times. I suppose if you're a talented writer chances are you're either going to write a book or a screenplay. The weird irony is that games desperately want to be "cinematic" like films but aren't as well written PLUS they seem to forget they're video games in the first place, so you spend more time watching then you should be playing. There are a few games that have well-written stories that complement the gameplay like the Half-Life and Portal series, GTA V and The Last of Us, but these are few and far between.

Mate there is a fix for the stuttering. " If you are having "Frame Hitching or Slight Stuttering" Change this setting DisableLoadingMip0="0" in your gamerprofile.xml file to DisableLoadingMip0="1" and the frame hitching is almost completely gone. No noticeable impact on graphic fidelity."

i have been playing this game for hours on end recently, and as a far cry player since 2, a lot of the problems from 3 carried over to 4.I 100% agree with the opinion of the near super human sight that soldiers of the royal army posses to the point where i consider all soldiers elite enemies trained in the harshest conditions and most brutal tactics. There have been times where i was hiding crouched in dense foliage more than 300 meters away with a silenced sniper rifle and a guard saw me when i missed a shot. I tell you, it was like fucking flies on shit cause as soon as he heard that shot he dialed me right in. The silenced m-700 sniper rifle you have access to and featured in this review is absolute shit. You won't even be able to unlock the more power .50 cal sniper rifles until you have completed all outposts and/ or gotten to "A key to the north" main story mission. Which is complete bs considering a freaking dog takes two shots in the head from a silenced sniper rifle about 200 meters or less away. That's not all, it seems like every creature and enemy in this game can soak up a superb amount of bullets before keeling over and taking a dirt nap. My favorite from 3 is back, the never ending healing animations. It wouldn't be so bad if you could run while preforming them which would make things much easier. Also the ability to skip pointless cut scenes from your over reacting golden path allies would make the story more tolerable. Not even starting on Ajay. also, rabi ray rana needs to be blow to smithereens with 200 thousand tons of tnt. He repeats the same broadcasts over and over again to the point where i get out of a car when he comes on the radio and walk instead. All in all, i am really enjoying this game. Like i said, these problems were from 3 but carried over into 4. I enjoyed 3 heavily and was pretty quickly hooked, same thing goes for this game. Also, don't trust auto-drive to drive you anywhere whilst reading a book or anything. The pathing is abysmal and the constant literal running into royal soldiers on the road doesn't help. No. FC2 was better for fps fans. The whole game was designed to kill you and it is much cheaper on sale than the rest of the series, Not to mention the lack of uplay. I recommend playing on hardcore difficulty to start and maybe turning it up if you get good enough. It is a brutal game though. It will chew you up and spit you out if you don't learn to swim.

Gggmanlives Yeah, that's true lol. Get some real sensitive people out there but I would always go by an online / Utube one rather than the 'big' websites. Never know what dirty favors they've been into behind their closed doors. I haven't played 4 but I'd give FC3 an 7/10. This seems a bit better tho, with it's more 'believable' settings and characters. Currently my fave recent FPS is ME3 tho, I'm biased on it's story so that one's a 10 for me but I really need to get some vids of it up =/

Yes the glitches are terrible and the cheap deaths are also are. But I like the Farcry games, I could vent out some of daily stress but perfect chain kill takedown. I have played 3, 5 and am playing 4, I missed the knife takedowns in 5. After this I will play new dawn.

Lol when i was playing far cry 4 for no reason at all (finished the story mode) i decided i wiil liberate an outpost.3 guys lined up two normals one heavy i shot and i got a double kill but the heavy took damage and the whole outpost knew where i am

Far cry 2 still awesome (excluding malaria) and well made for pc..it just needed more activities n maybe more bus stations,fast travels are lazy

I love the Far Cry franchise, but as you said, Far Cry 4's characters are soooo "dislikable" that I just didin't want to progress in the story. All I wanted to do was join Pagan and kill those anoying Golden path idiots, it would have made the story much more enjoyable.
