I actually love Primal. But then again, I love it for the same reasons most people seem to hate it. It got rid of all the "story" stuff in previous Far Cry games. I mean, I have my complaints, sure, but I'm a simple man. All I care about is running around and hunting shit. I mean, what else were we to expect with this one? lol
@EternalDahaka
@EternalDahaka 8 жыл бұрын
+Professor Who I'm a fan of all the story stuff, but Primal made everything useful. Even after you crafted everything there was still incentive to gather resources for your weapons and recipes. In 3 and 4 hunting became pointless once you crafted everything. It'd be nice if they used 4's outpost resetting and allowed you to replay missions though. Not much to do after everything is collected.

It's almost "too sandboxy" not that I don't like sand or boxes, but Far Cry 1 is still probably my favorite one. You got dropped in a huge level and had multiple ways of executing. Now it just takes forever to accomplish anything in these games. The quests feel more like a job. That is why I feel far cry would benefit from at least a little more structure which would also feel like a little more Polish. Otherwise we're left with mishmash.

The game takes place during the Upper Paleolithic and beginning of the Mesolithic period in Europe. One tribe Udam AKA Neanderthals arrived because their God the Venus of Willendorf abandoned them and a never ending winter AKA Ice Age came and most died off from Hypothermia, the other tribe Izila AKA made up Sun Worshipers for the game are trying to get the new land because they want it and they need sacrifices for their Sun God I cannot remember the name to. Your tribe survives because they were meant to aka modern humans, the neanderthal leader Ull gave you his child, this was implemented in the game most likely because there is traces of Neanderthals in us so his son bred with humans so that the evolution in Far Cry's make sense I guess?? That's essentially the story, it's not that difficult to understand unless you need a game to walk you through the story while holding your hand. You were also able to set hunter sense to unlimited since release, did this man ever check the options? I also don't believe your Bloodfang Sabretooth died that fast, you must have mistakenly sent a weaker Sabretooth out. It might have been true if you were on the hardest setting, but that's impossible seeing as you had bombs for your owl so I believe you sent out the wrong one.

My personal breaking the game experience was using common sense as to where to find the upgrade materials for the spear (I wonder where NORTH STONE is found??) And maxed it before i was even a quarter into the game. I then spent the rest of the game hurling spears at enemies snd one shotting them from the bonus damage the spear gets from throwing it and its overpowered damage.

I liked Primal because I could be around sabre tooths, mammoths and rhinos, I actually found catharsis in just watching the animals, I was watching some woolly Rhinos drinking from a when a sabre tooth ran towards one and killed it and started eating it, and then one of the rarer rhinos charged him and broke his everything

I'm probably the only one who ignores crafting in any game. In DA: Inquisition I never even realised how crafting should work and frankly I did one slightly crappy something to get rid of the quest trying to teach me about crafting. In Witcher 3 I couldn't be bothered with collecting all those diagrams conveniently littered around the map, since by the time I could get past the monsters guarding them they were crappier than my starting gear. And I still don't understand why I needed specific animal hides for a better purse or bag in Far Cry 3. It's not like the size of the animal allows for bigger bags. I could make a pretty huge bag from a bunch of squirrel hides just as easily. As for purse, how big can a purse be?
@Dojan5
@Dojan5 8 жыл бұрын
+Bindair Dundat Crafting in most games is just a tedium and doesn't feel as rewarding as it could be. DA:Inquisition is a great example, I had no idea what the heck I was doing with the crafting, and at the end of the day the armour I had was already better than anything I could craft so why would I even bother? Truly, the only games (that isn't crafting centric, e.g. Minecraft) I've ever had any sort of _use_ (not saying it was entertaining though) for crafting in has been MMOs.

+SpamReciever420 Nah. It was good, but nowhere near perfect. Half of the fun of Far Cry games is being stealthy and observing a camp before you attempt to take everyone out. In Far Cry 3, holding still for longer than 10 seconds somehow immediately put a 'tastes like bacon' sign above your head for any and all hostile wildlife to rush you. Also, Far Cry 3's intro was pretty lackluster. I can't take a gritty intro sequence seriously when your brother somehow kills a guard by pulling him into the outside of your cage. He didn't strangle him, stab him, break his neck, etc., he just pulled him. And compared to Far Cry 2, the protagonist in Far Cry 3 is a complete douche. Was there a lot of fun to be had? Yes. But the game certainly had its issues.

I felt like how Primal distinguishes itself in that it is not greed or ideology you fight for, but pure survival in the case of the Udam, who hunt and eat the Wenja, or freedom from the Izila who enslave the Wenja. It felt really good completing tasks because each one helps my village to...well, not die. The motivation is built into the games mechanics and not just the cut scenes. Also, it is possible to play and hardly ever manually gather resources. The village provides some daily and some of the best components are in the finite and hidden leather sacks. Stick to looting just those and you can build pretty much everything.

Hopefully Far Cry 5 manages to at least almost reach the level of Far Cry 3. I think the best part of that game that Ubisoft seemed to throw out was the interesting main character. The way Jason reacted through the game changing as he became more and more of one of the island's warriors. Just don't kill the game's Vaas part way through

Primal's innovation wasn't in the mechanics, it was in finally having a setting where those mechanics felt justified. Crafting a new mag pouch for your AR15 from dingo pelts feels stupid. Making a new club holster with dingo skins, as a caveman, doesn't feel so out of place. The best part of FC3/4 was stealthily clearing outposts, and now you get to do it without a silenced sniper rifle. There's also a survival mode, which turns off the gamier elements (like the bomber owl). It's obviously not historically accurate, but there are tons of cute little anthropology references to show the developers did their homework, even if the rule of cool trumps all in the end. On top of that, it's an open-world game that actually gives you a reason to interact with the world on a regular basis for mundane reasons, reasons that aren't combat-related. That's the sort of thing that annoys players that just want to get through the game (so, reviewers), but for somebody that paid for the game because he actually enjoys playing in it, it increases immersion and investment. The survival elements are implemented well; hunger just diminishes your stamina and increases aim sway, with a bar that depletes slowly and is easy enough to refill. It's important enough to look after, but you never feel like it's the only thing that matters. I absolutely despise Ubisoft and most of the crap they make. I hate the way they've shoehorned Far Cry mechanics into franchises that don't benefit from it at all. But this is the one game they've made in the last ten years that I will defend. It's not bloated with unnecessary DLC. They put a lot of thought into it instead of just cranking out another Far Cry. They took a risk by doing something new and off the wall. You can tell that the creatives behind the game had the freedom to make the game they wanted to make. And while not liking it is fine (it's not for everyone), I'm sad to see something like this get panned because that just makes the management at Ubi less likely to take chances in the future.

This reminds me of that optional bit in ME1 were if you toke the gift from the Asari on the citadel in the beginning then you could access a ruin that says your seeing yourself taking the place of a caveman fighting to keep you tribe alive. So if you get to that point in the game save, play all of this, then go back and you'll get the original concept.
