Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love - as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

I will never be able to understand how actors can stay in character with a camera like literally, IN their face and with all those different people around. How do they do it?!

Tom is one of the few actors I've ever seen that have genuine sweet vibe with them, most of them are just polite but he looks like a really kind human being, idk

Okay you must be blind then. Literally every one of the men that were her husbands at some time at her life were amazing and real actors. Especially Matthias Schoenarts. But I respect your opinion

Honestly I thought that Bathsheba was nuts for her confusion re:Michael Sheen/William Boldwood. Great man, gorgeous house, and he bought her all of that beautiful jewelry!

+aleister crowley Yeah, for me Boldwood was definitely the creepiest one. Nothing against Michael, he played that part beautifully. Back to Boldwood, a man that gets obsessed over a Valentine? Does not hesitate to bribe, buy her and emotionally blackmail her to marry him and at the end gets unhinged and shoots her husband? Stay the hell away from me creep. Gabriel all the way ;)

@@katerinakucerova2937Well, considering, that he was rejected a few times in the past from other women and secondly he fell madly in love with Bathsheba, I totally understand his ,,creepiness“ here and I personally like his attitude a lot, but maybe thats just me lol

To be fair, I haven't seen this version. The settings and scenery look perfect but I think Bathsheba and Gabriel are a little bit modern looking. The part where Bathsheba gallops away on the horse dressed in a leather jacket with trousers and what looks like pirates boots, is not great. I think Oak does not look like an English sheep farmer. Probably trying to appeal to a modern audience.

This is a wonderful version, which connects perfectly past and present. Great literature is timeless and the director did a great job. Anyway, it is not "modern" at all. At least not in a cheap way.

I think the look of the film wasn’t intended to be modern, Gabriel’s actor isn’t English if that effected what an English farmer should look like

Not worth a cinema ticket, so i waited till it came on sky tv…it was ok, the German actor played a good oak, and the rest was just ok, as i said when it first came out. Thomas Hardy's book and the 60's version though were excellent.
