Girlfriend and I have been hugely inspired by your channel. We have been car camping for several years trying to discover new parks around Ontario but recently wanted to take it to the next level. We came across your channel several weeks ago and have been preparing for our first portage trip next spring in Algonquin. Your captures are incredible and videos massively inspiring. Thank you for all your efforts!

That's awesome! So glad to hear! If time permits, I might recommend trying a short weekend trip in coming weeks - September's one of the best times to go; wonderful temps, great swimming while the water's still warm, hardly any bugs and quite peaceful! You can rent just about everything you need from an outfitter like Algonquin Outfitters - just bring some extra layers to bundle up at night :)

Chris Prouse Thanks for the recommendation! Tried to squeeze something in last minute with a week off in mid-October but we just learned that most Ontario Parks close on Thanksgiving for the season. So we're just going to finish the camping season off with some car camping at one of our favourite parks, Killbear, on Georgian Bay. Highly recommended for car camping and they close their park at the end of October!

Thanks Michael! Yeah... there were 3 other attempts that day that were unsalvageable, haha. I tried processing these ones entirely with the stabilizers in FCPX, without roto-ing tracking points manually in After Effects like I normally do... which resulted in a lot of additional key-framing just to make them look half decent, lol. Btw, just subscribed to your channel last night - your timelapses are looking great! :)

Hey you guys! 1stly: Love the videos & it goes without saying that you both are complete rockstars :) I just wanted to ask your advice. I was wondering with your extensive knowledge of the Algonquin, could you suggest a 3 day that would not require portage? I want to take my 80 year old (outdoorsman, but with knee troubs) father with me. He took me hiking around Georgian Bay when I was 10 & started me off on my love of the outdoors. If you have any insights, that would be great. Love you guys & love the channel. xQx
@ChrisProuse6 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I might recommend camping on either Opeongo Lake, or further up north on Kioshkokwi Lake. They both have a lot of beautiful campsites on them that would require enough paddling to feel like you've trekked into the park, but don't require any portaging. Opeongo has the added benefit of starting right next to an Algonquin Outfitters store... though being one of the largest lakes in the park, it can also become incredibly windy / wavy making paddling extremely challenging at times... luckily they also have a water taxi service there that you can book ahead of time to drop you and your canoe off at a campsite up the lake, and I believe pick you up afterwards. I think the pickup may have to be pre-arranged though, because cell phone reception is often non-existent while in the interior. If you don't already have one, I might also recommend renting a PLB (personal locating beacon) from AO for emergencies. In any event, hope this helps - September's one of the best times to go... just bring some extra layers and a toque to bundle up at night! :)

Great videos. Can’t wait for my trip on sept 8th. Only 2 nights on Brule and Sunbeam lake but should be awesome. If you had to pick your all time favourite spot in Algonquin, where would it be? I want to plan a trip with my wife who’s never been in the backcountry if Algonquin.
@ChrisProuse6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Cool! That's a tough question - there are so many amazing places to choose from. I'd say Phipps Lake which is a small lake in the South end (between Smoke Lake and Lake Louisa) is one of my personal favourites, though Big Trout is also one of my favourites - it sorta feels like the heart of the park to me, and there's usually lots of variety to choose a great spot for sunsets or sunrises. We arrived on Big Trout at the end of Day 2 in our 'Classic Algonquin' series, titled "On A Mission" ...and it's one of my favourite videos for sentimental reasons :)
@megajig6 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I have the Jeff's map of Algonquin pretty much permanently open in one of my browser tabs so I'll check out Phipps lake. The furthest into the park I've been is Happy Isle lake which is just before Big Trout. I'm excited to paddle through McIntosh Marsh in a few weeks on our way to Sunbeam from Brule. It looks like moose central from the map :)
