Fardriver + Kunray 🔥A match made in HELL?🔥

CONCLUSION = Kunray is bad kitter / seller 👿 All signs point back to their entire kit since I experience on my workbench w/ 2 kits and 2 known good power supplies. Fardriver controllers are known to be pretty reliable. The controllers included are legitimate but the programming (by Kunray) is NOT. I've worked thru dozens of solutions from communities which were very appreciated but had no affect on the inconsistent throttle. I was able to resolve the 2nd controllers "throttle hang". That was done by adjusting Function\Follow to Disabled. This further illustrates their (horrible) quality control. RECOMMENDATION: Stay away from Kunray. They ghosted all correspondence re: warranty claim. I was a month outside of return window, but Amazon forced the return. WHAT'S NEXT? I ordered a more basic kit from another seller to get the ATV back on the road, and my videos back on track. LMK If you have questions- Appreciate y'all!

All my Kunray motors work fine. I think it's that specific fadriver model. I have the same issue with throttle. If I ease I to the acceleration, things works fine.

That's crazy they should stick to what they know I just got the same controller my buddy and it does the same thing I thought it was a str8 fardriver which it would have been a one and done and done I think I'm a day outside return policy of Amazon

sorry for bring you trouble! and we have saw your video , the controller self-learning maybe not very well. BUT also for the MY1020 motor with fardriver controller set, it need not to reset the controller again, because fardriver have been set the system with the motor. and everyone motor and controller will be test before sending.

I recommend you following with the voltronwatts fardriver tuning video, as a razor guy I never had this problem with any my1020 motors such as yours. I’ve hit very fast speed with this motors with instant torque and speed.

Thanks for watching! This is the first thing the FD group recommended. Mine was set on 0-NC but also have documented test failures using other selections "Invalid" and "12-PB4". It's also worth reporting is that this is just mapping your speed switch. It should not create an intermittent failure. At the end of all this, I had tried anything suggested by communities to no avail. I hated swapping the kit as I really wanted to solve but it was clearly Kunray's issue. I've had fun on it since!

The throttle hang is resolved. This was the bonus throttle issue I received with second controller, not to be confused w/ larger throttle issue that plagues both. Since only the second experienced this, I compared their settings. Toggling one setting resolves this and results were repeatable. Just didn't want anyone scratching their head on that one. The throttle hangs because "follow" is on. Make sure you turn it off before you do the learning setup. Also don't let go of the throttle until the controller beeps at you when you're doing the learn. I have a feeling one of your hall sensor wires is crossed or something. I have that same type of motor and controller and it works fine.

Appreciate you! Funny- 2 kits, and the programming was wildly different despite same kit from same manufacturer. 'Follow' was the problem on second. Hall first manually adjusted, then reverted and adjusted electronically w/ BT dongle. I went thru a host of recommending setting changes in pretty controlled environment. Enough to just throw my hands up, and re-kit. I'm looking forward to an FD build of something soon!

I literally have that same set up and I only experience the week throttle when I was pulling 40 miles an hour with a 52 V battery and then I slow down a little bit because of traffic and then I try to get on it again I kind of get a week I guess you could say idle. But nonetheless all I have to do is pull the throttle again and I’m off and running and I only just received my Kunray 3kw just this last Saturday. 🤷🏻 Also to note I did change all of the field weakening parameters and changed the throttle response parameters so maybe try that?

You shouldn't have to tolerate that. Suspecting you found this video because of your problem. When I experienced this issue on every third throttle, it was not remedied until I restarted the controller or reached 0 RPMS. It sounds workable in your case, but I found it unacceptable. Also w the variance w/ two kits I tried, I am sure there are some that totally work. But yah, Kunray sucks - plenty of MY1020 kits out there thankfully. Another thing you can try is to set your min voltag 1 decible place more then the resting voltage, this should prevent the motor from spining when you don't have the throttle engaged.

What is your minimum throttle set to?? Go to your gauges and check what it says your throttle is resting at without you turning it. If it says it's at .80 then change it to .90 in your pro settings. And as for Pole pairs they can vary between 6 and 0 for your mid drive motor I believe. Phase offset is very important so I'd suggest you pursue that as an avenue that could be explored if your throttle or Pole pairs wasn't the issue. Lemme know how it goes if you like or need any advice.

Thanks FPV! I had a great experience w Fardriver aside from the Kunray dilemma but I still had to return it since it was kitted. I put a cheap square wave kit in and ATV is amazing now. I'm a few weeks out from producing the build video. My next build will definitely use FD! Whatcha into bikes, karts?

I replaced the kit w/ a square wave controller and another MY1020. The community and I really tried to undo whatever Kunray did to the FD controller. The issue was not the My1020 as I was able to isolate that when I had the second kit which experienced same issue. There are enough people running FD w same motor which may suggest it was firmware related. I don't remember where I left off in that exploration tbh. Glad ur kit is good , thanks for watching!

Swap the phases and keep the hall sensors wired how they are . Also worth exploring pole pair settings and AN settings . Most likely issue is the motor those MY1020 motors don’t run very well with someone controllers and seem to prefer square wave units

^^ Has awesome e-Bike channel ⚡ Thank you for that, Kunray said the same thing. I was skeptic, tried as last effort before receiving the BT module. It did not run at all in that configuration. You may be spot on re: sinewave vs. square. These were kitted together so they should come working as advertised. They have another kit w square but I had opted for the FD kit. I have some good folks from the FD group on Facebook that are going to assist me tune 🤞 I'll keep this updated and appreciate ya!

I have the SAME exact issue. Every 3 throttle attempts or so, I get 10% power. I just spent 6 hours putting my build together. I would REALLY like to not take the whole thing apart. Did you ever find a solution to the problem?

That throttle hang can be incorrect due to low and high voltage cutoffs being wrong but can be other issues aswell

Thank you x3 friend- are you referring to the throttle low and throttle high voltages (1.2, 4)? I don't see another setting that touches on voltage cutoff. If I cannot resolve the throttle hang, that's OK since my first controller does not have it. I compared all the settings between the 2 controllers to see if I can find the outlier. Chart below, hope it comes out OK. It represents volatility in Kunray's programming. If a difference between settings is causing hang, it must be one of these... Controller is simply tuned incorrectly by Kunray. Razor guys have that combination (not from Kunray) going 45+mph. Find Ryan Goodyear for all FarDriver Tuning needs. He admins the FarDriver Tuning for Ebikes group. Kunray needs to stick to motors only.

Agree on all fronts. Ryan was not willing to help me bc he thought I was either working for Kunray or would share his tune to resolve issue. I also had little faith that he could resolve since he has a review on the product page suggesting he returned kit w problems. Nonetheless, respect his decision and no doubt he's done great things for community 💯

Thanks for watching! That option in Function had no result when disabling. It may resolve a similar issue but what makes this different is repeatable frequency. 2 out of 3 sequential throttles are fine. Only on 3rd throttle was I experiencing this. And this pattern repeats itself. Kunray is dead to me, but FD is great and plan to use again soon 🙂

it's that version ND72260 Fardriver... I was having same throttle issues on multiple hub motors not made by kunray. I use ND72450 and no longer have issues ​@@manicmods

It almost seems like you have one of the phase wire backward. Try swoping 2 of them around.

I've seen too many headaches with these fully programmable controllers...True, when they work, they're great...but I've watched too many build videos turn in to headaches because of them. I'll stick with my dirt-cheap, non-programmable(beyond self-learning for hall/phase wires) controllers, thanks. There are easy enough ways to make them behave the way you want.

^^Great Info-taining cart-centric EMV channel 🏎️ Appreciate you stopping by man! After AN (10), you must be referring to my current StartKI (4), MidKI (8), MaxKI (16) and SpeedKI(9). I was also reviewing these last night. Digesting info... AN- I can change from Kunray's 10 to 0. Manual says 0 is for surface mount motor if you think that is right. Manual says Standard IPM motor is AN 16. MaxKI- I can adjust from 16 to 10. I was thinking of changing to 12 since the chart in manual has that figure in configuration 4 alongisde the other KPI numbers I have. Going to add your comments to my notes and systematically try to step thru some of these recommendations. Will keep you posted!

No doubt you were right, but didn't fix issue. All my testing and research points back to Kunray. They SUCK- especially since they ignored any warranty request. I had to have Amz force return, and will be getting a more basic 3000w kit from another seller. I'll be back in fardriver land when I build my cart- no more kits for this guy! Appreciate you man 💪

Thanks for watching! It's not like that, I got to know an awesome (FD) community in troubleshooting. At the end of the day, this was a kit and should have worked out of box. So it was a warning shot to customers interested in Kunray. I want to build another ride w FD soon, hope to c u around!
