@SeegerInstitute

@@MrEmreWawa I don’t think we need to compare the two. I think all we need to do is acknowledge that our government has failed us and that the experiment in a multi faceted people living together in harmony right now is not working all that well and our financial system has corrupted the government to the point that it’s only exacerbating the situation. It ran as a 5000 year old culture and they’re bound together by a stagnant religious belief but at least they believe in something. We need something to believe in right now something to bring us together. I think America has an opportunity and a responsibility to lead the world out of this mess, and that, by focusing on environmental resilience, rebuilding a degraded planet from an environmental standpoint, and learning how to be of service to all non-human life we have a best chance of creating a common threadthroughout our people, and finding a way to come together to work together to live together and create a better world

The whole point is that the kill switch won't work because the AI will manage to sow disagreement among the population over whether the kill switch should be activated or not, and will keep it that way until it has figured out a way to take full control. If you see how easily humans fall prey to division and disagreement that should be a walk in the park for a hyper intelligent, super sophisticated AI system. There may be a handful of smart people who know what's going on and try to warn everyone but they will be cast aside as crackpots and nutcases that can safely be ignored. And if not, the AI will do its magic to ruin their credibility. Bottom line is it's foolish to think something less intelligent (the collective of the human race) can control something much more intelligent (future AI).

In the segment "What are the policies that can save us from ourselves?", which begins at 39:01, how does Zakaria possibly hold up Tony Blair and Bill Clinton up as exemplars in his response? The very seeds of discontent to which Zakaria attributes today's disaffection of working class Americans can be traced directly to NAFTA, which was a Clinton initiative and implementation. Moreover by glossing over this fact and harping so much on "woke" (a term that Zakaria, like everyone else who uses it, fails to define beyond meaning anything he personally does not like) he obfuscates where the focus needs to be to address the substantive issue Prof G's question raises. Zakaria asserts that "it is all cultural and not at all economic"; well, clearly for him it is. Amazing how someone can have had such a front row seat for the world's events and still get it so wrong. He might have tried listening harder when his hero Clinton coined the aphorism "it's the economy, stupid!" It seems Clinton had pundits posing as historians like Zakaria specifically in mind. Any wise political leader--or pundit--knows, the fact is that you have to pay attention to BOTH.

@Hexanitrobenzene
@Hexanitrobenzene 5 ай бұрын
He mentioned it lightly, in some other words - "if you take someone's land, you are legally responsible for [the plight of] them". Overall, I think Fareed's opinion on the conflict is quite reasonable - he acknowledges that the two state solution is the only solution, that occupation (in some other words) is unsustainable, that the current Israel's strategy in Gaza is out of proportion, and most importantly - that Hamas is first and foremost an idea, not people, bunkers and guns, and you cannot destroy it with a military solution only. Of course, we would like a much more categorical position, but I guess that's the best we can get in the current US political climate.

Galloway argues that Israel's caualties on Oct 7 justify their response. Many more Palestinians have been killed by the IDF over the last few decades. So why not take into account their right to respond to atrocities committed against them? When you don't look at both sides as humans deserving of respect and equality, you get Oct 7. If the US and Israel had truly wanted to create more peaceful coexistence in this region, it could have been done well in advance of Oct 7.

The whole interview is a very 'western-centric' perspective on how great the achievements are of respective colonial powers; it looks at the 'winners', particularly the US and conflate victory with being right. The Middle East is testament to how horrifically perverse American foreign policy is and how it only benefits a small group of individuals to the detriment of the many. Hundreds of thousands of people if not millions have been killed by US policies over the past couple of decades across Syria, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and other neighboring countries. The current situation in Palestine is the epitome of everything that is wrong with the current global regime; inflicting their ideology on any country that is militarily weaker.

Fareed is stuck in the American exceptionalism mindset. You can say whatever you want about China and Russia's stance on gender roles, but the fact is in these countries, women get free health care, education, and mandatory maternity leave. Russia/China also have a higher number of self made women millionaires and women in leadership roles. The US doesn't even have maternity leave. It's all talk with no action.

Regarding the global order and the US's place in it, I think there will have to be a restructuring of it, with a greater importance of a global institution. Not something like the UN, but an institution of liberal democracies, like the OECD or NATO. A global government with very restricted authority, but still effective in what it does. (I would like to see this government being implemented on a new paradigm, involving blockchains, smart contracts, and AI.)

Fareed is often perceptive in foreign affairs, but he has an imperfect understanding of the US Constitution. His dogmatic statement that politics has no place in (organized) religion is badly inverted. All kinds of beliefs, attitudes, and fantasies can be found in spirituality or religion, and always will be in a country with protected religion. It is instead (organized) religion that has NO place in the established structure of governance, its Constitution, or its enforced statutes in a country that specifically, deliberately disestablished organized religion after many decades of its discrimination, destruction and death.

++++ the truth about voting doesnt matter who do your vote for your voice importance rather power does not asking for , nor would ever do colonial structures are still everywhere, around the world, but started loosing power and trying to keep strings in hands, everywhere they hold, starts burning like a wild fire and spreading around the world, its proof? is to seen, literally, to see, africa, south-america, asia, the near and the far east. even within, in eu and its streets.. doesnt matter what you vote for , the most expensive fan fiction movie about democracy ever produced, The election a ritual is about as meaningful as leaving milk and cookies for Santa Claus, asking who the better option for voting? who's your favorite? has the same significance of the real as it has marvel for hollywood , the same if would you asking witch marvel is your favorite? its the same as it is unrelated to the reality. the so called american dream, why? do u think it is? hiding real ?while holds them asleep? colonial=coorps=imperium=supremacy usa=brit=eu=west=oligarchy=cosplaying=democraties strange, facts ,sounds, conspiracy, theories. really ironic! as if its the poem of the real for the realests the real of the realm, for real released! if its not! you, fooled, foolish , you fool! never mind the might neverminds just saying let it be entendre cheers! ++

I'm fascinated that everyone is questioning Israel's understanding of cost/benefit and geopolitical grand strategy. Why are we never encouraging Hamas and the Palestinians to do the same calculus? Sounds like Israel has been gaining strength these many year while Palestinians keep backing themselves further and further into the corner. I don't think it's Israel that needs to reevaluate its strategy. We have a word for when civilizations try to murder one another: genocide. What do we call it when a society commits suicide? The left rhetorically calls it genocide, but it's clearly something else. Israel remembers the ovens of Europe - genuine genocide - too keenly to be fooled out of their own security by rhetorical slight of hand. I think they will grind the Palestinians to the nub if forced to. Any rational person; any rational society would do the same thing.

This is a truly magisterial interview. Thank you both. Befitting a great book (that admittedly have not read yet to the end). In terms of putting forward a muscular argument for Liberalism, Humanism, Rationalism - all that good stuff that lifted humanity from the gutter from ~1800s after 10K years of flat lining (right after the national liberal revolutions! no less!), and that's now under attack from several sides - the only comparable interview (but lucky us - complementary!) I can think of is "Is Liberalism Dead? Fukuyama vs Gray" kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4vFg2p-esR4iJo

In his points Fareed mentioned that Israel is very strong and will be there then, he contradicts himself and say he doesn't know because he believe Israel won't be able to do away with Hamas. I do love Fareed and his presentations but if it come to this issue of Israel and Hamas, I think it's only God who knows. See how the effect has spill in USA?

The US is not responsible for the era of "great-power" peace since 1945. The richest nations in the world didn't go to war with each other because of nuclear bombs & MAD. Nuclear peace theory is more explanatory than US or Soviet dominance over the international system.

Massacring 186,000 civilians is hardly a method for “de-radicalization.” If you truly desire peace and security for Israel, you should oppose apartheid, racism, occupation, the 18-year blockade of Gaza, and other oppressive measures, such as restrictions on movement, arbitrary detention, and daily killings in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Additionally, remember that the people in Gaza are refugees from the 531 towns and villages destroyed by Zion$t militias.

We do have the best universities, but many of our best of the best with many others following the lead every year, are not teaching critical thinking. He's right. They aren't teaching to just pass tests; they are teaching to become subservient to a radical left wing dogma. I wouldnt send my kids to Harvard right now. They've become woke indoctrination factories that say intransigence is the proper response to ANYTHING you disagree with. It's currently rampant in the high profile schools and the schools that had previously been known for radical left wing ideas. But i even saw it creeping somewhat into the University of Arkansas at graduate school. Not get cancelled get scolded stuff. But the material we discussed and even marks off on papers for unpopular opinions. Still, all civil. But its creeping in everywhere (Im sure Liberty and BYU will be the last holdouts not that i think their right wing ideology is better).

Well, Professor G is a strong Zionist. The other person never speaks up for the Palestinians; unfortunately, he's only there to sell his book. If you listen to all the podcasts and everything that Professor G is involved in, you'll notice how demeaning and unkind he is towards Palestinians. As far as he's concerned, all Palestinians are Hamas. It's also concerning that he doesn't understand the reality of living in an apartheid state, where people are abused, killed, and currently facing genocide. It's a historical fact that resistance is a natural response in such situations. Just look at other apartheid countries where people had to resist to free themselves. He labels Hamas all as terrorists, but in reality, they are fighting for their freedom. While there may be some terrorists among them, it shouldn't discredit the entire Palestinian cause. We should stand with Palestine and support their fight for freedom. Unfortunately, if you defend Palestinians, you are often labeled as anti-Semitic in his rhetoric. I agree with many things he says, and I think he's a brilliant person, but his perspective on Palestine and Israel is deeply disappointing.

Zakaria Fareed is a good and intelligent analyst. But sometimes he is too anti-China: such as Xi Jinping's comment about women, human rights abuse of the Uygur Chinese. China and Russia have done very great things too that arw helping improve the lives of people around the world.
