0:22: How strange it seems to me. Normally, the indicator position lamps flash intermittently. Why are they both blinking at the same time? 3:50: No horn zone? Because the train hasn't done the honk sequence. 15:36: Is it me or is it a two-tone horn? 19:06: The Dash 8 seems to have a Norfolk Southern horn, since the tone is not the typical one used by the P42, for example. 21:59: I love the classical railroad crossing bell.
@AliceInChains24311 жыл бұрын
I guess it's only a matter of time before they take these last few out of a service, but on the upside the 125 MPH will be quite the sight if they do go as far as upgrading to as fast as the toasters can operate. This was a nice example of how much creativity can be expressed in three locations for a solid 24 minutes, lot of nicely composed shots here. I especially liked the one of 953 at Irishtown and the 646 at Newcomer. The final parting shot of the vehicular traffic closed out the era well.
@therookie92766 жыл бұрын
They only took out the crossings because on highspeed lines, trains are restricted to certain speeds depending on the crossing concrete filler/track pad's functioning, or the types of level crossings it has.

ExtraLt1 That's really too bad. So many countries have electrified much or most of their railroads: Japan; nearly every country in Europe; even India. The Russians completely electrified the trans-Siberian railway to compete with ships to move containers between Europe and the Far East. All we have in the US other than a few subways and light rail is the northeast corridor and Harrisburg to Philadelphia. Oh, and the Black Mesa & Lake Powell Railroad, which as far as I can tell is the only electrified freight-hauling railroad in the United States. And I live on the west coast. Sigh.

@rwboa228 жыл бұрын
They are Keystone trains that are "push-pull" consists using the old Metroliner m.u. cars from the PRR/P.C. era as cab-coaches. AMTRAK has used them since taking over the NEC and Keystone Corridor in 1976, using them primarily on the NEC in New England and for the Keystone Service since 2008-09 when the entire Keystone Corridor was overhauled by AMTRAK and PennDOT. It was also used by AMTRAK for its short-lived Atlantic City-Philadelphia "Gambler's Express" Service (since taken over by NJ Transit).

@Ih8kone8 жыл бұрын
Why did they get eliminated?
@rwboa228 жыл бұрын
So that AMTRAK can run these trains at 110 mph. Otherwise, PennDOT would not have fund the improvements and would have forced AMTRAK to do away with the Keystone Service altogether (the Pennsylvanian to Pittsburgh may have been retained). Before PennDOT and AMTRAK upgraded the Keystone Corridor, track conditions were horrible and old electrical equipment on the supply system forced AMTRAK to use diesel locomotives from Philadelphia to Harrisburg. The upgrades were a Godsend, and hopefully, AMTRAK will run one or two express Harrisburg-NYC trains (using the NYC-Pittsburgh "Subway" at ZOO interlocking) in the future.
