You guys are going to have to build an automated gun turret to fend off those meteorites. It'll automatically target meteorites, and shoot them down before they destroy your base.

It might shoot at you depending on what settings you give it. I had interior turrets in my ship (Which I built myself) and when I gave it ammo and turned it on, it fired on me.

***** Because factions aren't implemented yet. Right now, they can only be set to fire on moving targets, meteorites, and missiles. To avoid being shot by your own turrets when "fire at moving objects" is turned on, don't go any faster than 2.5m/s when around them.

The cockpit is there so you can control the landing gear right in front of it. You can land ships there and lock the landing gear so the ship dont float off.

JustHalfling At any time, the dampeners work by firing the engines automatically to stop you without you trying. How is the ship suppose to stop moving with no power?

they should already know they just could thrust a little bit then turn the whole thing off just to conserve energy because in space there should not be any kind of resistance so it will continue untill they manually make it stop

Yep, or you can turn off your Dampeners, turning off the Thrusters completely would save more power though. Just makes it harder to do a emergency stop, having to turn them back on to stop lol

AvWorgen Yeah, but turning everything off means your lights, doors, health station, etc are all also turned off. Meaning its harder to do stuff in your ship while its flying through space.

I'm roughly five minutes into the video, Aleks has cut the power to the ship, which is now steadily heading towards the platform at about 12 m/s, at a distance of some 7000m, and seem to have decided to salvage the goods and just abandon the dead ship. In about ten minutes they're either gonna have a really bad time, or be extremely lucky. I fucking love these guys

Hey Aleks, there is a thing in physics called inertia. They way it works is that an object that has a moving force put upon it will keep going forward, even if the force moving it stops, in till a resisting force, such as friction, stops it. An interesting part of inertia in space is that, because their is nor friction to slow object movement, an object will keep moving. With that in mind, destroying the thrusters, the pushing force of the ship, will not stop it in till it hits something.

James remember, in space you won't ever cease accelerating or decelerating if you don't do anything about it, so allow for long stopping distances.

If you see this post James, let me explain how the dampeners work: when turned ON, they stop you automatically until you don't move at all, even if you don't press anything. When turned OFF, you continue your movement forever, so if you wanted to.. I don't know... NOT OVERLOAD THE SHIP, you would have to turn them OFF and let the ship go by itself...

For anyone who is confused, the explosion was cause by Warheads on the ship. They sit in front of the thruster so when the dampeners fire. BOOM! Most ships are rigged with these traps. Stop saying power overload! It isn't in the game.

All of these meteor attacks seem pretty unrealistic. In IRL space, impact events are few and far between. Then again, everything is pretty far apart so it would make all the mining and scavaging much different. Still though, If I were the dev I would turn it down just a tad because it really seems to hinder progress.

Ok, maybe I ordered my complaints erroneously. The meteorites hinder progress AND are unrealistic. It should be tweaked first and foremost for gameplay reasons. Realism is a secondary concern and admittedly less important.

In Space Engineers I feel that someone will eventually ram there ship right into that platform and on the extractors. I believe currently a ships being made but I think the Volken ships should be added or NPCs you can fight.

personally... i woulda attached the ships to the platform.... scrapped the thrusters and stuff... made it so the bodies of the ships are just rooms on the platform and used the ships for their turrets.... and kept the small ships you start in for actually flying around in.

11:26 no Jordan, no... the cockpit is not there as a "Beginner" thing that you can grind down. it is there to let you know stuff about the station. for example, how much fuel time you have left on the station before everything shuts down. it said you have 3 real time hours of fuel. dam Jordan keeps trying to sound smart, little did they know, there are more people who play this game.
