You look great Taylor! It’s great that the rains have finally stopped for a bit to let you both back into the fields and harvest the hay. Those grasshoppers are definitely stealing food from your ladies, so it’s good that you made it out and got the fields cut! 😂 Take care, Taylor. Enjoy your Sunday…

when cutting the back cut first or cut counter clock wise you are better able to cut or trim close to the outer edge of the field. If you started cutting the field clock wise first then when you go back to cut the back cut you will find that you will miss some of the hay due to fact that it is hard to judge how close to get to the outer edge of the field or fence with the tractor so the grass strip will be narrow enough so the discbine can cut it with out missing any of the hay.

It has been an extremely strange year where we live in the hills of central NY on the PA line. It was extremely dry in April and May. Some people made what hay there was in late May and early June. Since the middle of June it has rained almost every day. I am a semi- retired dairy farmer with beef cattle. Enjoy your videos..

Hi Taylor, Just found your channel a few days ago. I subscribed and will like your videos. I have started to watch your earlier videos. I am a retired farmer who watches many of the farming channels. Your boss Brent is a smart man to allow you to do youtube while at work. Chances are he would not be able to keep farming without your help. Maybe he would consider letting you buy your way into the operation to eventually take over. It is much better to pass the farm on to the younger generation than to see the land sold and developed. Keep up the good work.

Hi Tay,not to sound too critical but your reasoning for opening a field doesn't make sense. The outside round is what I call the backswath. If you start your field in the normal direction and leave the backswath for later you can position your tractor at the appropriate distance from the edge of the field,about a foot and a half from the desired edge. This will allow you to see that edge instead of looking across the far edge of the mower and trying to position the mower. Also you can see any rocks or sticks(not boats😂) that might be just inside the field. The run downed grass will still lay the way you explained. This is the way I was taught but I have tried it your way as well. Sometime when Brent's not looking give it a try,be adventurous,maybe it works for you maybe not. I would love to see and hear your results. I got hay to cut now. See ya later.😊

@tpfromcentralpa1692
@tpfromcentralpa1692 Жыл бұрын
@@tayfarms , Your boss comes from the days of haybines and sickle mowers and knows what he is talking about. The way you are doing it is right IMO, your swaths are the right distance apart mowing the edge first doing the outside first, and you won't be driving over any of the windrow doing it that way either since that outside round is never the same width all the way around?
@Ron-rs2zl
@Ron-rs2zl Жыл бұрын
@tpfromcentralpa1692 I'm not saying there's a right or wrong way. Maybe that's the way you would open the field with a sickle bar. However she's not using a sickle bar. Like I said I've tried it both ways and was hoping she would try it a different way. It makes no difference in the hay or performance of the mower,I just think it is easier to get a straight edge with tractor vs with the mower that's 10 feet away.
@tpfromcentralpa1692
@tpfromcentralpa1692 Жыл бұрын
@@Ron-rs2zl Not following, why would you not get a straight edge opening up the outside first? The mower is going to go over it either way and the edge will be what it is or as good as the operator is. I don't know anyone who opens up a field leaving the outside unil later pass, and am surprised to see this on here, maybe it is a regional thing? Or old fart thing having used sickle bars and haybines. For the record, I work from the outside in, that goes for sickle bars, haybines, side pull discbines, and even SP's and center pull discbines as you need headland room to turn even going back and forth.
