There has to be crawdads in ponds right? We bought the best crawdad traps we could find on Amazon to try and catch some.

Thanks for the info. I found these traps through their videos. I think I’m goin going to put a screen mesh around it because the crayfish around here are really small and getting through the mesh. Especially if we are looking to fish with the small ones, it would be nice to have.

The squared up box type needs to be flat on ground the ramp will be upward so the flap door falls down to close by gravity.

Are you in Missouri? Crayfish eggs stay attached to the tail of the female until after their 2nd or 3rd moult, depending on species. No way they came in on bird feet. But it was an okay guess considering that it is how some nematodes get spread. Two main causes for crayfish in ponds. They migrated from nearby waters or were live bait left behind by a careless angler. Even fully aquatic species will migrate over land for short distances. Good luck to you and the boys. @Eat the Invaders thanks for info. We are in Oklahoma. There are no waters for miles to us with no creeks or rivers feeding our ponds. Unlike other states with a lot of cold water rivers it’s really uncommon for people to fish with crawdads in these parts. We are in a very heavy migratory area with a lot of fowl and herons.

@@BooneBoys Oklahoma- explains why you say "crawdad" instead of crawfish or crayfish. I also use "crawdad" predominately, though I do say crayfish when referring to a specific species. My dad says "crick" instead of "creek". He got that from my great grandfather who came from Oklahoma. . The "swamp" had bluegill in it. So it's either wet all year long, or it's connected to other deeper swampy areas during high water. That's sufficient for several species of crayfish to migrate. Especially red swamp crayfish. . I'm curious. Do you get any sizeable bluegill there? I used to get stringers full of big ones from select local ponds. They'd average 8.5" to 9.5". Most ponds near me have 5" bluegill. The biggest one I ever got was in a pond in the upper Willamette Valley in Oregon. Just shy of 12" and about 2lbs. I'm 6'2" with oversized hands in comparison. Only time in my life that I couldn't get my enormous hand to to span the fish. In other words I couldn't fold down the top fin spikes to pull the hook.

Your soaking to long. The crawfish are eating the bait and leaving the trap. Try two to four hours.

I’ll have to try that. I was thinking the wire was too big for the smaller Crawdads in the pond and they were just crawling in and out mesh.
