The garden is full of food and I can hardly keep up with the produce coming out of it! I'm always amazed at how tall all the plants are in summer as all the vegetables compete for light in my small kitchen garden. My tiny urban farm crops are growing well and doing so much better than last year as so far the weather has been practically perfect. We have had plenty of sun and warmth as well as regular rainfall that hasn't been too heavy. Even the wind has played nicely. Let's hope this continues and I haven't jinxed myself!
The tomatoes are pumping, as are the beans and courgettes (zucchini), of course, and I have plenty of squash ripening. I have lots of carrots in the ground that we will harvest slowly as we need them and the peppers and chilis are fruiting. My breakfast at the moment is muesli with blueberries, passion fruit and plums, and it is delicious! I feel so lucky to be able to eat these nutrient dense, fresh and free fruits from my tiny plot of land.
There is also lots of wildlife in the garden. The bees, bumble and honey, are everywhere and there are so many insects busily playing their part on the farm. The birds are also having a field day, whether that be green finches eating the seeds of my sunflowers or the stealthy little rascals pinching by grapes, elderberries, blackberries and plums! The chickens are also in full production now so fresh eggs are on the menu again.
Hopefully, this will bring you up to date with the activity on the pocket farm after my Christmas break and next I will be getting on with winter sowing for my brassicas. I am also planning some different content about sustainability and also showing you my crafts - knitting and sewing, and the capsule wardrobe I'm creating for my trip to Europe for my daughters wedding.
