You answered my question about electronic ignition. I think I will stay with points. I get five years out of a set now that I went to Borg Warner. Also I recommend Borg Warner caps and rotors to because they actually fit nice and tight on the distributer. I tuned my H up with them and it purrs like a kitten.

I have 4 tractors with Petronix. 3 Ford's (N series) and one Farmall M. I haven't any trouble with them. A couple months ago on one of the Fords all my tests led to a bad module. Long story short it was a coil. I always have a module on shelf just waiting but never needed it yet.
@FarmallFanatic4 жыл бұрын
I think it matters how hard you work them. Those modules are not cheap like points
@thenewyorker00424 жыл бұрын
For the record the electronic models never go bad. They have no parts to ware out. This is a common mistake people make. When they replace them all they really did was fix a dirty contact. This is the reason most all these have life time warranties.
@FarmallFanatic4 жыл бұрын
I think you can definitely fry the modules. The best warranty I have ever seen is 5 years.

Not a big seller over here buy a working petrol cheap abou 1500pounds for grey Ferguson. Most Tractors where Diesel over here as a cost factor and reliability. Back in the 50s when petrol was cheap people bought a few so some still survive altho not many i was at Auction about 3 months ago where nothing was making its money. Tc 👍

The reason those modules keep failing on you is that you are hooking them up wrong. If I remember correctly. You are running a resistor in line to your coil, so you are feeding your module reduced voltage. The modules instructions state that they require a full 12 volt supply. Try running a separate wire straight from battery voltage to your module. I bet you see a difference.
@FarmallFanatic2 жыл бұрын
No I'm not running the resistor. The resistor is Built-in to the coil. This video is quite old I'm going to say maybe 2 years and I haven't burnt one out since
@Midwestboltandblade2 жыл бұрын
@@FarmallFanatic You may still check the voltage supplied to the unit. If the coil is internally resisted, it could still cause a voltage drop. Breaker point systems require this, it is hell on EI.

Are those copper core spark plug wires? I know Petronix recommend getting rid of them to eliminate the chance of a elecromatic impulses hurting the module. It looked like you were holding the wires and test leads together with your fingers, don't... it can screw up the reading. You should also check the resistance across the high tension side of the coil, it can fail as well, leaving you with a no spark situation.
