Phil, you'd put RTE with their big budgets to shame.

Those Fleckvieh are thick stubborn cows to work with. The Brown Swiss on the other hand are lovely cows, excellent temprement, good udders, hard black hooves and pure pets. I should know, we have a herd of them.

Hi Phil I’m milking Fleckvieh in Kilkenny and am really happy with them. They would not suit everyone but I can’t see why they are not more popular in Ireland. We milk with a robot and they are particular suited to robotic milking for a load of different reasons. The main one is you can milk more Fleckvieh per robot than Friesians.

Braunvieh are brown swiss,used to have them,glorious cows,temperament, milk quality and volume,absolutely loved them. Was a dairy farmer in cork but stopped 12 years ago due to tb and milk price, still the case. What a clean well kept farm.

I saw a robot milker like that on a trip to Germany in 2019 and when I said to the owner that I hadn’t saw a robot like that before the owners reply was that they wish they had never saw it either because it was very troublesome .

Lovely set-up, agree with you that there is better space in Ireland for wider amount of dairy breeds to better suit beef market too!!

Love the fleckvieh mate, Iam converting my whole dairy herd to them here in Australia. Would you consider rearing more of them to get them finished and away quicker?

I milk on a farm which cross bred Holstien cows with Fleckvieh and brown swiss.The brown swiss x milk better and some of the fleckvieh can be stubborn to deal with
@Andy-ix2ox10 ай бұрын
Stubborn, now that’s what I would call an understatement, pig headed is what I would say, when you are used to nice civilised black and white cows it’s a bit of a shock to then have to deal with a fleckvieh and their bags go very quickly.
