Dosh - Not necessarily. It just means he doesn't have a quick rebuttal in his head. And it's not really surprising given where the vegan had taken the argument. The farmer defined humanity as not inflicting pain, which is a fair position, and in response the vegan took the argument to the point at which it's not OK to kill something that wants to live even if no pain is being caused. This is a huge topic to debate and from my point of view a very flimsy statement to make as if it's an objective truth. I'd have liked to be the farmer debating him there as it's an interesting conversation to have, but you need to have thought about it a bit. Not the sort of thing you're going to get much out of cornering someone.

When you ask a question you already know roughly what your opponent will respond, because you are already familiar with this topic and probably been asked so 200 people, and they give the same answers, then you already have an advantage, and it's not about pure knowledge, how can you talk about them, if you know what I say, but a manifestation of logic does not protect from provocative questions or exact figures when you just have nothing to say because you do not have the necessary information

Sometimes, but not necessarily. For some, their faith inspires them to go vegan. Carnism is an insidious ideology, and it is pushed on people of every religion and no religion alike. What makes Ed so great is that he try to plant a seed in the person's mind for whatever direction they are coming from. In this case he's using Biblical arguments because that's what was important to that man. For someone else, he might go from the angle of health, and for another person, the environment. He always tries to show that single word responses against veganims (But bible, but ancestors, but tradition, but protein, but evolution, but survival, etc...) are not sufficient for modern people living in the West.

You could see that guy was a pretty good dude, but he started to spiral when you took it heavily personally and then made one of the most common and absurd human errors: generalization. He felt personally attacked yet Ed had never personally attacked him. He felt Ed thought he was a bad person despite Ed repeatedly and genuinely telling him he doesn't think that he's a bad person. Saying that all vegans thought farmers were bad people. In the end, because of the argumentative approach Ed uses, he was able to at least reach the man. You could see him show respect to him for at least arguing politely, not getting heated, and not getting personal with his points. I think we can all take something from this. If you want to encourage others to go vegan, you have to come from a place of understanding and zero judgement. You have to be stern and to the point, but you can totally do that in a way where you don't belittle someone.

You have been lead to believe that eating plants and not eating animals will save the world, bu you are dead wrong! So many implications and consequences will occur if the world goes vegan, but you have not considered anything outside the walls of vegan ideology to think about it. Research 'regenerative agriculture'. The solution to save the world, human beings, animals, the environment and even plants; is found in our soil. What is the source of the problem? Chemicals! Chemicals in our food (plants and animals) and chemicals in soil! Without good soil, we all die!
@Corvid_Moon
@Corvid_Moon 4 жыл бұрын
@Nicholas | Regenerative Agriculture: ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regenerative_agriculture ) > "Some claims made by proponents of regenerative agriculture have been criticized as exaggerated and unsupported by evidence by some members of the scientific community. One of the famous proponents of regenerative agriculture, Allan Savory has claimed in his TED talk that holistic grazing could reduce carbon dioxide levels to pre-industrial levels in a span of 40 years. According to Skeptical science, "it is not possible to increase productivity, increase numbers of cattle and store carbon using any grazing strategy, never-mind Holistic Management [...] Long term studies on the effect of grazing on soil carbon storage have been done before, and the results are not promising.[...] Because of the complex nature of carbon storage in soils, increasing global temperature, risk of desertification and methane emissions from livestock, it is unlikely that Holistic Management, or any management technique, can reverse climate change." According to a 2016 study published by the University of Uppsala, the actual rate at which improved grazing management could contribute to carbon sequestration is seven times lower than the claims made by Savory. The study concludes that holistic management cannot reverse climate change. A study by the Food and Climate Research Network in 2017 has concluded that Savory's claims about carbon sequestration are "unrealistic" and very different from those issued by peer-reviewed studies."< The thing is stranger, is that I used to think like you too. I too once made the claim that vegans were too extreme and uninformed, but that was until I BECAME informed and seen the world for what it really is, what animal agriculture and aquaculture does to the planet (species extinction, habitat destruction, deforestation, oceanic dead zones, both human and non-human animal exploitation, suffering and death, global hunger, zoonotic outbreaks and pandemics, etc.) and how we can reduce our impact as a species. If you care about knowledge and have the ability to learn something without getting offended, then I urge you to pursue the information and follow the evidence to a conclusion, not the other way around. Because until you do that, you'll always be stuck in the mentality of "us v. them" and you'll never understand that what you replied to me with is just a projection of your own cognitive bias, and what you've been conditioned to believe and ignore your whole life. Have a good day :)

"I wish I was as quick in my responses as you are." Yes, an annoying mouthy vegan that has nothing to do but boast about their opinions and believes and pester others about what they should eat and shouldn't, predators kill prey in the wild, it's natural, however humans Farm animals rather than the natural hunt (Unless you're a Hunter #ShoutoutHunters) if Wolves had the same intelligence as us, and the ability to Farm, rather than hunt, and waste energy on something they could spend energy elsewhere on (and produce meat at an industrial level to feed their kind), why wouldn't they also farm? Death is natural, everyone, and everything will eventually die (accept that immortal jellyfish boi) The fact that farmers ONLY speed up that process doesn't make sense that childish entitled people should bitch about it, most farmers take very good care of their animals, the Internet likes to show only the worst parts of farming, how many vegans have ACTUALLY been ON a farm or actually seen HOW it's run. Noone likes to see an animal suffer, if it weren't for farmers there would be no place for certain animals, no vegans are actually going to go out of their way, spend money, time, sweat and blood to make sure these animals have a home, they will shy away and cry "well if I'm not getting paid for this I'm not helping those animals" not to mention all the products that farmers have to buy to keep cows alive during certain seasons of the year they would normally struggle, or even be unable to survive on their own. Next time you decide to pester the people that work their asses off! to produce food for us, ask yourself "Am I able to purchase this mans or womans stock and give them a self sustained home that they can live in" go actually get a job and work on making a sanctuary rather than act like children and stomp your feet and cry in protests to people making a living for themselves.

Objectively, I don't think Farmers do give the animals a "lovely" life. There are too many of them to properly care for individually. Profit comes first. The yards are filthy. I have seen sheep collapsed in fields, maggot infested, they have tags punched into their ears, operations done without anaesthetic, torn away from their Mothers, driven around in lorries in fear, they get stuck in barbed wire, and they are often given no shelter (which impacts lamb survival too) and its boring for them, trapped in an empty field, they are inquisitive, intelligent beings.

I think you'll find that animals are meticulously monitored not only by farmers and vets but by government regulatory bodies (at least in the UK). Diseased, over-medicated or mistreated animals would not get in the food chain, simple as, I know this as I used to work for a company that tested for diseases in milk and currently work in the Agricultural industry. Any farmers who were found to have mistreated their animals would be investigated and prosecuted. You cannot tell me that if animals were not farmed on mass for human consumption that we would have the same level of animal welfare regulation in this country. More to the point people with your views never adequately explain what would be done with all the existing animals bread for human consumption if more people became vegan and farms shut down. I am not necessarily against veganism as we live in a free country (thank Christ) but some of your arguments are ill-informed.

pyrobotnik As Ed said I don't think they're bad people. They just grew up being taught that killing specific animals (cows, chickens, pigs) is ok whereas killing other animals (dogs, cats) isn't. Dogs and cats and pigs and all other animals are fundamentally the same within. Those farmers could've easily been born and grown up in China, and been taught that it's ok to farm and kill dogs and cats. People only kill some animals and not others because it's what they've been taught to do. And I don't think it's the farmers' fault that that's what they've been taught. However, killing animals is still wrong. So just as it might be hard to convince a farmer in Yulin that it's wrong to murder dogs for no reason, because it's what they've been taught, it's just as hard to try and convince farmers in other parts of the world that it's wrong to murder cows and other animals for no reason. However, Ed is a very good speaker and managed to get through to them, at least a little bit. So I applaud him for that.

@Paul Semmens nice strawman argument 😉 Apart from that’s not what he’s saying, he simply saying that where there isn’t a need for loss of life of earthlings then there should be measures put in place to prevent them or stopped from happening. Do you think it should be ok if all pet owners (dogs and cats etc) to just kill and eat them if they feel hungry and can’t be arsed to go to the shops where food is readily available? Or you’re just good with all types of animal abuse?

@owenteamtraceur 2 жыл бұрын
@Paul Semmens brilliant, you’ve introduced some content for a discussion rather than just insults, of course you couldn’t help slipping some digs in there 😉 Firstly, you keep referring to vegans as a collective, they are a group of people that have different views and approachs. Some will be religious, some not, some will be capitalist, some not. When you tar everyone with the same brush you weaken your position. So the entitled to dictate things comment is an odd one, aren’t laws set by people dictating the actions of individuals every single day. Or do you believe we should live in a lawless society? Once upon a time (although the size of the crime is on another scale) people were once saying the same about slavery. ‘Who are these entitled lefty liberals to try and dictate what we can and can’t do’ Besides the point, personally (and I’m sure other plant based people as well) I’m not actually dictating to anyone that they can’t eat meat, when asked I just point out the reasons we shouldn’t be. Your grandma dig, I’ll ignore as I’ve addressed that in my first response. Veganism is on the rise actually, hence the significant increase in food options available as capitalism will dictate as demand dictates monetary gain 😉 so yes, all is well, things are going in the right direction. Mental states of vegans, another good one 👍 There are “fruit loops” in all walks of life, there are certainly some vegan ones for sure!! What people think of people is irrelevant to whether something is right or wrong though. However, if the current perception from the majority of the public that vegans are fruit loops then obviously there’s some work to do for the vegan movement, thanks for the advice. Interesting you’ve got no arguments against veganism, in summary: - you don’t like to be told what you can and can’t do - you don’t think veganism has any traction - you think vegans are fruit loops In the meantime vegans arguments are based on: - needless cruelty to animals - not contributing to the dangers of human impacted climate change - not endangering human lives by the over use of antibiotics in meat production - not contributing to the further destruction of the natural habitats Probably a couple of other things as well 🤷‍♂️

@Paul Semmens Putting aside your thoughts on my poor line of questioning and potential lack of intelligence and rationality, i want to just stick to the conversational points. So when I mentioned murder above I was only applying it to humans. I’m pleased we’ve found common ground. How do you also feel about dog fighting or bull fighting? They are activities that people gain money and pleasure from, do you think they are ok?

The meat industry is horrific for the environment, you seriously need to do some research, a quick google search will blow your mind. We breed millions of cows, who all produce about 100kg of methane a year. Methane is twice as bad a greenhouse gas as CO2. Imagine how much gas is being released into the atmosphere just as a result of cattle farming. I assume you know about greenhouse gases and the negative impact they have on the environment? That's not to mention what overgrazing of cattle does to land. Across the whole world cattle farming is turning land into desert, where nothing can be grown again. We are ruining the land because cattle are overgrazing and removing nutrients from topsoil. The meat industry is highly unsustainable. Please please do some research and don't resort to childish insults just because you don't agree with vegans.

vegans are afraid to fight in a fair ground, thats why they always go for people that dont expect someone to harass them where they live or work or give them any time to put their thoughts in order unlike them that probably rehearsed what they were going to say for days

Eduardo García Rodríguez Ah yes because the people who come up to his stall and have debates with him are so "harassed". You sound like such a snowflake. If you believe in what you are doing you should be able to defend yourself no matter what time of day it is. If I worked in a controversial industry that I believed in for example an abortion clinic, I'd be able to debate with anyone why I worked there at any point. This just shows that the farmers know deep down what they are doing is wrong.
@friskscipio
@friskscipio 6 жыл бұрын
i dont see that sall in this video or in the majority of his videos. you guys are the snowflakes. 1. if you think this is a debate then you are naive. in a debate both parties know what they are going to debate and have the same time to prepare for it. thats why vegans are scared and change what a debate is. thats why they always go for people that are just minding their own business, unlike them they are working and attending their responsibilities. its pretty lame to think this guy is good at debating. its really easy to "win" a debate when only you know what you are going to debate, when, with whom, and you have rehearsed what you were going to say for days. 2. no they dont need to be prepared because its just their job and there is nothing wrong with it. if you want to debate then go and find someone that wants to, again they have responsibilities and dont really care what a bunch of snowflakes with too much free time have to say. 3. this just show how this guy and the vegans that do stuff like this are a bunch of cowards. in their scared minds a fair debate is one in which they have all the time of the world to prepare for it, know what they are going to debate and rehears everything they are going to say, and their highly subjective morality and opinions count as facts. but not the other side. why? because that wouldnt be fair to vegans apparently, the other side dont even have the luxury to know what, when and where they are going to "debate".
@charliesaz0626
@charliesaz0626 6 жыл бұрын
Eduardo García Rodríguez you realise that people who debate know what they are debating and have practiced for weeks before hand. Does that suddenly make their points invalid? Eds point are not invalid just because the other person doesn't want to hear them. Why don't you go ahead and debate why it is morally fine to kill a pig but not a dog. Or why our tastebuds are worth more than an animals life? You have all the time in the world to reply. If vegans were so scared of fair debate, ed wouldn't have debated on television in front of millions.

9:19, I remember being around 7-8 years old, when my parents used that argument to tell me "Jesus ate Fish and Lamb during the Passovers, He ate meat", and as a Christian kid I responded "Well Jesus can eat it if he want's to, but I'm not like Jesus". It took them years to understand the wisdom behind that line. I think a lot of kids know intuitively that it feels wrong, but their told otherwise and indoctrinated to believe it's normative, and a natural way of life. Before I talked myself into going vegan, I reflected on all the thoughts and feelings I had as a child, all the fuss I'd make and tantrums I'd throw as a child over having to pick and eat meat off a chicken bone with resembled a carcass to me rather than a "drumstick", and how I stopped thinking about all that somewhere along the way. That's what made me transition.

@John Benson | Veganism isn't a religion. There IS a religion that compels it's followers to be vegan though, and it's called Jainism: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism Now, I'm not a religious person, far from it in fact, but if I had to choose one religion for people to follow, it would be Jainism. I'd rather the world follow a religion that respects life, than one that justifies taking life through what they have been indoctrinated to believe in their bibles. So with all religion aside, what's better: Respecting life enough not to take it for personal gratification, or to take life without any regard whatsoever? The answer should be the former, not the latter.

@John Benson | Here are the definitions: Religion: 1a : the state of a religious [i.e: a nun in her 20th year of religion] b(1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance (Source: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/religion) Veganism: : a strict vegetarian who consumes no food (such as meat, eggs, or dairy products) that comes from animals also : one who abstains from using animal products (such as leather) (Source: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/veganism) OFFICIAL definition by the Vegan Society: www.vegansociety.com/go-vegan/definition-veganism Nowhere does it say that non-human animals "are" human animals. That isn't the definition from anywhere by any vegan (nor non-vegan), so your claim is entirely incorrect. The fact that non-human animals are LIKE human animals by way of having brains, nervous systems, emotions and cognition, is backed by hard science, and has been proven to be true time and again. I'm sure you're not going to go so far as to say that science is religion, because that would be incorrect as well. Conclusion: Veganism is not a religion, it is a perfectly valid ideology that is supported by a lot of science and reason. I hope that you can find it within yourself to learn about it more, if for no other reason than to avoid being immediately discredited by someone in the future. Ideally, you would want to consider veganism for your health, our planet, other people, and for the animals that suffer and die: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goK1cpmArqqmodE Further reading: www.vegansociety.com/go-vegan/why-go-vegan Thank you for your timez :)

@@Corvid_Moon Either you misunderstood me or you deliberately put words in my mouth. I never said vegans believe animals are human beings. I said vegans believe animals are PEOPLE, in the sense that they are individuals entitled to rights as if they were human beings. Vegans claim that animals should receive the exact same moral treatment we apply amongst ourselves, because they see animals as individuals. The fact that animals have "brains" and can "feel pain" has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm saying. No one has ever denied that, nor is it relevant to this discussion. Vegans believe animals are people, which makes it a religious belief. Veganism is a religion.

I don't know how you do it Ed. Some tough people in this video. Keep up the great work... we can only hope that some seeds are planted regardless.
