Late response but to anyone who struggles to debate (I do too, like a lot. I get very angry when people refuse to accept plain facts or believe animals/livestock only exist to serve us and have no right to live, etc etc): Best thing you can do ask them questions, let them come to their own conclusions. At some point they might realize they'll have no other way of defending their lifestyle without sounding like a psychopath. If the person is smart, they'll accept that we're all conditioned this way but we have the ability to see clearer if we try hard enough. Hardly any person was born vegan. We all learn. Ed did a video on how to be a vegan activist. Do lots of research until you can debunk every single argument on a whim. Because people always have the same excuses. Always. It doesn't work all the time, but maybe you'll plant some seeds in their minds to re-think their way of life.

" Pretty weak for only 2% of the US population. The fact is, the large majority who become vegan, do it because they think that make them tolerant and open minded, so they can go on their instagram and twitter statut and get some hearts and likes. and gloat around their friend so everyone will be impressed and therefore, have a feel good moment being considered as progressive. @helensmith41266 жыл бұрын
albert fish Actually you can all the nutrients you need from a plant based diet. If you look on the world health organisation website, they state that mean causes cancer. Red meat and processed meat are the absolute worst. Dairy causes osteoporosis as it creates acidity in our bodies. This is counteracted by calcium in our body neutralizing it......the calcium from our bones. Ever thought why countries who consume a lot of dairy have osteoporosis? If dairy was needed for calcium, we wouldn't have osteoporosis right? Look in the hospitals......cancer, strokes, diabetes, heart disease, obesity. Where do you think animals get their nutrients from? Plants. We don't need meat and dairy to survive and if you read the China Study this confirms a meat and dairy based diet is not healthy. I know what you're saying as I used to think the same that we need a balanced diet. But we are being lied to by the farming and animal agriculture industries, they spend A LOT of money on their propaganda. They are not bothered about our health, the animals or the environment, all they care about is making money. Watch Cowspiracy, Earthlings and The Land of Hope and Glory :-)

@helensmith41266 жыл бұрын
Mike Leikam No doubt at all it is a very hard and time consuming job. But at the end of the day, (if you're a farmer) you commit the ultimate betrayal to these animals who are as innocent as children. You look after them. They trust you. And them you put them on a truck and take them to be killed. Pigs are as intelligent as a 3 year old child. They're not stupid and they know something bad is going to happen. They have done absolutely nothing wrong. I watched a video recently of some baby calves being literally forced into the slaughterhouse as they didn't want to go in as they were scared. As a decent human being.....you can't say that is morally right? Why can't you grow crops instead or do something different that doesn't involve torture and murder of innocent animals? I'm not being disrespectful there.....I just know it's absolute psychos who work in slaughterhouses and I've also seen footage of farmer's abusing animals. The vegan food market is growing as people are learning what happens to animals.
@mikeleikam28926 жыл бұрын
Helen Smith you know it's psycos that work in slaughter houses? Really , couldn't be people who are making a living to support their families right? You vegans amaze me to no end! You think you are so morally better then anyone who eats meat! You aren't, you just have a different opinion! I enjoy meat , therefore I eat animals! Giving animals the same emotions and knowledge as humans is just nuts!
@helensmith41266 жыл бұрын
Mike Leikam Watch the Land of Hope and Glory. It's an undercover documentary that the man who made this video made of farms in the UK. I promise you, it shows absolute psychopaths on the footage, abusing the animals before they are killed. It also shows footage of farmer's abusing the animals. So yes, I do know there are psychos who work in the industry. People who are vegan don't think their morals are better, you're misunderstanding me. Many vegans also used to eat meat and dairy, myself included but their eyes were opened to the lies we are told about meat and dairy and also watching documentaries about what happens. Once you know what happens, I feel we have an obligation to tell others as meat and dairy is not only killing animals but also killing humans and the planet. You only need to look at the illnesses people have who are in hospital to see.....cancer, strokes, heart disease, osteoporosis, obesity. Meat is a type 1 carcinogen which means is it does cancer in humans. Look on world health organisation website to see this. Red and processed meat is the worst. If you watch the land of hope and glory, Earthlings and Cowspiracy, they are good documentaries to watch. I honestly don't think vegans think we are better, we just want to tell people to do their own research on what they are putting into their bodies as it's making us poorly and destroying the planet. People get defensive as their beliefs are challenged and to be fair, nobody likes that. We are brought up and raised thinking it's normal to eat one type of animal but have another as a pet and love the pets. To me that is crazy. They do feel pain and we don't eat cats and dogs do we.

But you are alive and you don't want to die, don't you think the animals feel the same."
@jasonvoorhees51807 жыл бұрын
Not a very good comparison since when people have kids they are their progeny and dare for them and raise them until they are eventually able to live ok their own and start their own families, for livestock and other domestic animals this is not so , they require the care and protection of humans all their lives (unless they are a type of creature that can turn feral). I understand the point you’re trying to make but the comparison of a human baby being raised in relation to a non human animal being raised but are not that easily brought together and don’t necessarily function as an analogue I’m going out on a limb here but I think what the man ed is talking to means is domestic livestock were bred from their wild ancestors several thousand years ago to be utilitarian creatures that could provide for people and enable us to set up permanent roots instead of having to hunt for wild game all the time giving us a reliable source of food. Goats were domesticated from ibex , sheep from mouflon, horses from smaller wild counterparts in the Eurasian steppe, dogs from wolves , chickens from wild jungle fowl, cattle from aurochs, and pigs from wild boar. Over generations we bred them and artificially selected the most favorable traits we wanted, eventually leading to the various different breeds we see today. So my guess is when he said “they wouldn’t exist if we didn’t do this” is these cattle and other breeds like them would cease to exist if they were not utilized for food. That’s just the reality of most livestock it’s what they were bred for (save for horses since they are more useful as transportation and work animals) it’s essentially their purpose and why they’re here to begin with. Again just giving insight into what the phrase he said usually means in regards to livestock
@jasonvoorhees51806 жыл бұрын
And in any case my point was why domestic breeds of livestock exist and how they don’t work as an analogue to humans beings as the original commenter stated I’m not trying to be offensive to the person but the analogy they drew was faulty at best and didn’t measure up well as a comparison to non human animals I also mentioned that I understood the point he was trying to make in the beginning as well, just that the road that came afterwords got bumpy

The sad thing is deep down these farmers are actually really nice people and as much as I dont like what they do to animals a part of me does feel sorry for them because they are no different to any one of us that use to eat animals in the sense that they've also been brainwashed and indoctrinated into believing in the 3 N's of justification. They are that this is.. Normal Natural Necessary KZbin > Dr Melanie Joy - The Secret Reason We Eat Meat

Vegan Thinking Exactly. But also the same way we never considered what we were contributing towards before we stopped contributing to it and became vegan. Of course now that they are aware and perhaps they might give it some thought then maybe they will re-evaluate. After all it wouldnt be the first time a farmer sent his cattle to a sanctuary and lets hope more of that continues.

Drives me insane when it so frequently goes to, "well, you have your opinion, and I have mine." That's fine for a question of something inconsequential like what your favorite color is, but you can't end a debate about exploitation and killing with that! That being said, I do understand that it's unlikely for someone to immediately admit or realize that you've convinced them, so hopefully it just means they'll consider it more in their own time.

pyrobotnik Its a fact that these animals are sentient and that they feel pain. Its a fact that we dont need animals to survive. Its a fact that these animals do not want to die. I could go on and on BUT the FACT is when you deny these animals their right to freedom from pain and unnecessary suffering then we will always speak out for them the same way most sane and logical person would speak out if they were dogs.

Hi RedBeard. I totally agree with you on how difficult it would be for someone in his situation to make a change. It's not impossible though and there are some great examples of people who've done just that. Howard Lyman was a fourth generation dairy farmer who became vegan and advocates for animals. Check him out if you haven't heard of him - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHyXkKiflMaHmJI I've been working in Information Technology for 18 years now and I'm pushing myself more and more toward being able to garden and grow my own food. He can also sale items that will help with awareness. You don’t see Gary begging for money to spread awareness on his vegan 🌱 lifestyle. This is one thing that cause for people not to watch videos because they have to be made to feel guilty to donate money. If there’s a note that says donations are welcome and you offer something in return people will donate freely without making you feel guilty for it. Food for thought 🙏🏽🌱🌱

@@chrisx5127 Empathy is part of the human nature, without empathy we wouldn't ever have been able to form meaningful bonds and connections in a group setting. Without empathy we would've never survived in nature, suppressing your innate empathy will lead to great tension and suffering. Empathy is not weakness nor strength, it's just part of you you can either ignore it and try to cut it out of your experience which will not work, or you can accept that and embrace it. Compassion for yourself is also what's needed in a healing process, is what would help you relief your current suffering also. May you be at peace friend.

@@chrisx5127 people take advantage of you when you suppress your anger, anger is the emotion that protects your boundaries emotionally and physically. But all too often anger is suppressed in our society, as kids we get taught that angry kids are not accepted and sent to their room. In school we are told that good boys don't get angry. This leads to a suppression of anger which later leads to depression, anxiety, outbursts of rage and an inauthentic life.
