I was visiting my friend at his new property this weekend and we were looking at a junk pile left by the previous owner. There were a number of metal chain link fence posts in the pile with the concrete still attached. We decided to chip off the concrete with a pick and maul to save the posts and this video reinforced the rightness in that decision. I think I was channeling you and your re-use whenever possible mindset and it's funny to me to see it in this video.

Haven’t farmed in 40 years but still raising a garden every year. Bailing wire and duct tape are staples for any farm. In 60 years now there has always been a roll of tye wire in my truck. Duct tape is considered John Deere repair kit

If you still want a step off of the cat walk you could, maybe, use that section you cut off the end of it. Seems wide enough so you wouldn't miss step when using it. You might possibly try designing a way to pull it out/tuck it under the stationary cat walk so it wouldn't be in the way when not in use. 🤔

Question: If you need to use your old squeeze chute to aid in delivery of a calf, since the normal exit out of the chute is not leading into a corral and is open to the driveway, do you back the cow out or do you have another plan? Seems like a cow's "reverse" is unpredictable!

@6:00 Tyler, Just out of curiosity here. After you run the heifer into the chute and take care of the issues, what is next? You can't back her out of the chute. You can't release her into the open field. I am guessing you will have to back the trailer up to the head gate and load her in the trailer?

I'm not sure this is appropriate . But I use a thick construction trash bag around metal posts that I'm going to put into concrete so when and if I need to pull it. You can knock off the concrete easily or if it sticks to the post at all. It has never interfered with its holding capacity that I know of. Just throwing that out there.

The twine (rope ?) you used could fail after a while !! Wouldn't bailing wire have been a better choice to secure those panels to the squeeze chute ? That's this city boy's guess......?

I used twine on my "temporary" chute last Saturday. It's easy to cut loose with my pocketknife when I get through with it but strong enough to use "temporarily". With the wire I'd have to get the pliers to cut it loose.... that's why I use twine on my farm

I noticed that there was no rebar in the concrete pad. Are you planning to add something to the new pad to make it stiffer for the scales? Would it even make a difference to your weight readings?
