I'd describe a relationship with livestock as similar to a business relationship. You go to work every day and see all the same people, you know them, you interact with them, and have a "business" relationship with them, and that's about it. If a co-worker leaves, you think about it, maybe feel a little bit of a temporary loss, but move on very easily. IMO, it's exactly the same with livestock.

Was somewhat aware of the goats, but wasn’t aware of the donkeys. Thanks, for sharing their leaving the farm. My Dad disallowed naming farm animals, informed us that only pets were named, and it was a strict discipline. As I got older, I understood what he was teaching us…the farm is a business, and the farm animals were our livelihood.

Great content yet again. My philosophy on my farm is if you look after your cows, they will look after you! Yes if you care for your animals for years like we do, you do feel bad when you have to ship them when they get old or unproductive. My wife teases me when I keep a good cow that has lost her calf that I’m running “ The second chance Ranch!, “ but in the end it is a business and you need to treat it like one.

Another good video. Your ranch, landscape and techniques remind me so much of my grandparents farm in Nebraska. I loved how you climbed the fence and went behind the second cow to bring her forward, and also checking the lead up to the trailer, ala Temple Grandin. Great cattle handling. I'd like an update on your chickens you hatched sometime!

Qustion: your new baby. Details, please. I get it with the animals and getting attached to them. My kids were all in 4H. It certainly helped when they focused on what they would do with money they earned a the fair. Plus, since they were raising animals as their 4H projects, they had to keep records of all their expenses giving them the understanding of agricultural as a means of income. It was a terrific learning experience.

Another great video, we raise registered Texas Longhorn Cattle. We have to sell about 30-40 cattle a year to keep our numbers where they need to be. It is never easy, and the reasons to part with any given animal are complex. In our case, for someone to buy a good animal someone has to sell a good animal. Additionally, I think of animals on the ranch as employees, bad employees have to go and good employees get to stay. I always enjoy your videos.

Those of us who follow the FTR channel and are in this business, understand the complicated processes that must be achieved to makes there operations sustainable. Culling the herd is just one, an essential one. Always good to hear your perspective. Oh we do have a pasture pet also....She didn't start that way but she will be on this ranch until she sets out on her final journey. As always Tyler, a good video.

Tyler you did it again !!! Flying and driving at the same time…I should clarify, flying and backing up the stock trailer at the same time…amazing. I certainly agree with your cull cow choices, plus 23 was a little bit of a high head. Thanks for letting us know that the next door rice paddies is a heaven for the migratory birds; there are not many “safe areas” on the way south and then north. Another great video, hope the wind and rain don’t cause you any problems.

Great video! It doesn’t or wouldn’t make any sense to keep ALL the animals, plus it wouldn’t be a healthy farm or business. It would become stagnant. Of course, you care for the ones you have until they have to go. I believe you have a very healthy outlook and you have a healthy farm which means buying and selling and using some for meat meaning FOOD! Thanks for telling us about the rice farm, that was really interesting and how creative of them to allow their farm to help the wild. Which also (to me anyway) shows that their farm is healthy because if they were loaded with chemicals the foul wouldn’t be able to use their flooded fields. I could be wrong about that, but anyway it’s still really cool and nice they don’t open it up to hunters. I have lived in areas that were farmland and these were open to hunters and it’s scary 😟 because you can hear them shooting in the background and that’s not a problem, what I was really afraid of was the idiot who went trigger happy and shot at everything, anywhere. Always wondered if a stray bullet would come whizzing by my head. Thanks for taking the time to answer question. Quite interesting to see you running with the camera. It’s cannot be easy doing both working and videoing. Well, I wish you well. Very interesting video. Greets and best wishes to you and your family. 👋🏻

I had to put the gooseneck hitch in myself. Honestly there are things I like about the truck but I can’t recommend an 05-22 super duty due to the death wobble issues they have. Ram trucks can get it too but doesn’t seem as prevalent. I think my next truck will be a Chevy as Independent front ends (like what’s on the Chevy) don’t get it
