I have a cool meatloaf trick I learned from my mom and it wasn’t until I was an adult that I learned not everyone did it- arrange your meatloaf in a round, oven-safe dish with an upside down glass in the middle so you get a sort of “bunt pan” shaped loaf. Leave the glass upside down in the middle of your dish. Bake as normal and let the meatloaf sit in the pan for 10-15 mins- this is where the magic happens- the air cooling inside the upside down glass will create a vacuum and suck up all the unwanted grease and juices (don’t worry, my meatloafs never turn out dry). Then flip upside down onto a plate and ta-da non greasy pretty meatloaf with the upturned glass of grease and juices in the middle!

I usually allow my meatloaf to sit for awhile to soak back up some of that flavorful grease. Anyway you make it, meatloaf is one of my top three favorite meals.

I'm going to try this one for sure 👍 definitely going to have my husband doing the flipping of the hot grease bowl tho 😅
@emilyacevedo47463 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethriddle3216 good idea! It surprisingly doesn’t make too much of a mess because the grease is in the glass. Just be sure to let it sit until you see the grease and juices disappear from the sides of your meatloaf pan, probably about 15 mins.

It's easy: herbs deh (like meh) pro vonce. Those are the closest vowel sounds in English. This mixture usually includes thyme, rosemary, basil, tarragon, oregano, marjoram, savory, and bay leaf in dried form. So, if you need more than a bit of one of those, you will have to add it separately to the dish. It looks delicious. The sausage and sauerkraut soup sounds divine. Part of what carrots provide in a soup or stew is a balancing sweetness. Any day now you will have more tomatoes than you know what to do with. Loaded nachos=YUM.

I use rolled oats to bind meatloaf, meat balls etc all the time. I really like the slightly coarser texture it gives.

My mother in law was an old Virginia farm girl. She would run a piece of bread under the tap, squeeze it out in her fist and use it to bind her meatloaf. I still do it that way.

My mom always used oatmeal in her meatloaf! No one else I know ever used it. She never had a recipe but I attempted many times to recreate her recipe. The first time I made meatloaf for my very new husband, he remarked to not be upset if he only took one serving because he did not care for meatloaf. (BTW, his mother is an AMAZING cook!) I was crushed! But then he had four servings! He loves my meatloaf! 18 years in and he still tells people he will only eat my meatloaf! Smiles, Abby Smith

Great ideas! I love that you were "rea" in sayingl~~"...this looks disgusting but when you cover it in cheese the kids won't mind..." :) I made some homemade ravioli yesterday evening and the filling was a mashed, herbed sweet potato situation. I made a sauce from turkey gravy and harissa mixed together (a sort of bumped up Thanksgiving flavor) and I made sure to mix the sauce up when nobody was around because I think the thought of turkey gravy and harissa would have yucked them out. But~~it was so delicious with the sweet potato ravioli. One of the things I like so much about your cooking (besides the fact that you use REAL foods...) is that you cook from your own head. It seems like you take ideas from things you've eaten, seen on a menu, etc. and make them your own and I love that! God bless!

Why reheat in the microwave when she uses the oven and stove all the time.

My boyfriend and I opted to not get a microwave for our apartment. Our kitchen is pretty small as is. But I make homemade dinner most nights unless my boyfriend works closing shifts at work then I’ll send him with a simple lunch and make myself something easy at home. If we ever have dinner leftovers, I can throw it in the oven to reheat or heat on the stove depending on what it is. We got an air popper for popcorn and so far I don’t miss having a microwave!

@@bgw2247 I don’t think they’re inherently unhealthy to use. I think the biggest risk with cooking veggies and stuff is just over cooking them which can lessen the nutrition, but that can happen with other cooking methods, too. I think the best perk of not having a microwave is there’s way less purchasing of convenience foods haha
