I think our view on January is greatly affected by our perspective. I am 70, retired and live alone. January is particularly restful for me, filled with slow days, lots of reading, snuggles with my cat and dog, slow stitching and comfort food. I rarely leave the house unless I really need or want to. I think of myself as hibernating, storing up energy for this year’s busy gardening season and I embrace it.

I agree with you, Julie, that our view is affected by our perspective. When I was a teenager and young adult, summer was MY season, and I remember feeling so sad when automn arrived! As I grew older, and now that I'm 66, winter is the season I prefer. I live in Canada, so it's cold, and I love cold weater, I love the stillness of winter, I love to cozy up before a fire with a good book, a cup of tea or coffee! To me, winter is a restful time, just like you wrote!

My body doesn’t jive well with heat so fall and winter have always been my favorite seasons - no kidding! People don’t believe me when i say I love winter - but i truly love it. My body feels regular. I live in the upper Midwest so I get a special dose of winter too. Since I have a huge vegetable garden that I preserve - May thru October is very very busy and sometimes exhausting. I take cues from the old farmers around me and use January/February to be lazy and enjoy the slowness because before you know it - it’s time to plant!!

I actually look forward to January. After the husble and bustle of December it gives me a chance to take a deep breath. After I get the Christmas decorations down, I give the house a good cleaning, I wash the insides of the windows, and everything is orderly and sparkling clean. It gives me a chance to do all the little things that I don't have time to do when it's summer and we are so busy. I also read more, cook more and just enjoy time by the woodstove.

This is beautiful Lisa! I needed to hear this today. I always get in a funk this time of year. Such a good reminder that God is giving us more time to be still in this month, focus on him and look forward to rebirth and renewal. As a creator Himself, and we are made in His image, he is also giving us time to create, and design or rest.

I am not a farmer or a big gardener. I have a modest house on a smallish lot. I HATE HEAT. January and February are in my top six months of the year. I am a firm believer in the Scandinavian concept of hygee. I embrace Winter and it hugs me back. Winter gets a bad rap 😅.

I love winter. I know a lot of people hate it, but I just really enjoy it. I love the chill in the air, the calmness and stillness it brings (after the chaos of the holidays), love the smell of a steak on the grill with snow outside, warm fires and the sound the snow makes when you crunch it with your boots and feeding the birds....also oddly only like ice cream in the winter. Love the time to reset my home and focus on something new. Its a beautiful time of year...not always the most picturesque but there is beauty to be found in all things. I love your candle jar! Thats where I'd hide my mad money from the kids 🤣🤣

I too am from Missouri Way up North. It has been very cold. But I really don’t mind it. It’s a time for rest, getting done what can’t get done in the warmer months. The days are shorter and time for quiet evenings. But I do look forward to spring, when all the trees bloom and the perennials start to come up. And so do the weeds 😮

It cracks me up to hear that you prefer summer over winter... and I think that's because God used you to help me learn how to enjoy fall and winter so much more. The cozy foods and such are just so much quicker and easier in my opinion (with my limited yet growing knowledge of cooking from scratch). It's summer and summer cooking I need to learn to embrace even more. :) Thank you for your influence!

Fall is my favorite season because of the crisp air and beautiful color of leaves. I adore spring and summer as I love to garden and the time outside. I use the winter to my advantage. Indoor activities (That of course can be done outside or inside during the other months of the year) I plan my garden space. I scrapbook more and quilt more. I spend reading and there seems a quiet stillness that my mind needs. My indoor plants and activities make me happy...and watching the snow falling is so calming. I try to appreciate all the seasons of the year. I love watching the ease you have in bread making!!

Lovely video…and in my birthday month too! I personally adore the autumn and winter months and much prefer them to the warmer months. The reason is, I’m from Scotland and since living in the USA, I get depressed as it’s just too hot for a good 8-9 months of the year. I enjoy the coziness that the cooler months bring, bundling up to go out on walks and run errands etc. sitting with a blanket over me in the evening as I’m curled up with coffee and a book or watching a movie. Baking on a cold winters day while a Pot of soup summers on the cooker…

its so funny but I feel the same way and I'm much older,, I just don't love winter! I love the summer and springI love being out in my garden and the longer days ! So in winter I use the time for planning my garden, doing painting, refinishing projects, and catching up on things that I have not had time to do in the summer. And because of your recipes for sourdough I am getting into that as well! Made three aprons for my sisters this Christmas too!

I agree with Julie! I LOVE the seasons. I love New England where I live. I love January. It was just Christmas, it's time to relax and enjoy slowing down. If I were to pick a month I would say March is a yukky month. It's not quite Spring, lots of snow, rain, mud. I've also embraced Hygge. I'm sure you have heard of it. Coziness, comfort, a sense of well being. I find as I get older I look forward to the change in each season. We have lots of gardens and outdoor work in the hot summertime so I look forward to the beauty of fall and the cooler weather that sets in. I remember it was harder to feel this way when I was raising my kids. They are 29 and 32 now so I am much more relaxed. Thanks for anther great video!

It’s the opposite for me living on the gulf coast of Texas. Summers are so hot and humid it’s a burden for like 5-6 months. Our winters are quite mild and I do much more energy in the winter to get things done without the oppressive heat and humidity. I would love to live more north in my lifetime.

I decided this fall to have a good attitude about this winter. Living in rural Canada where we live gets awfully cold. I purchased a Verilux HappyLight that I sit in front of every morning with my coffee. We bought a mixer and I am having fun making bread. I also picked up cross stitch again after many years. Getting outdoors weather permitting with our two dogs for fresh air helps me sleep good too. There are so many things we can do to lift our spirits, it just takes the effort.

That’s something that I miss about living somewhere with all four seasons. Here in FL there is no season of rest. You can garden all year, you can do almost anything you want all year. And while I appreciate the benefits of that there is also a part of me that really misses being forced to rest for a few months. I appreciate you view on the attitude for the season and choose to do the same with my own situation.

I love everything about this video. I have to go watch your sourdough starter video so I can start another one as I threw my old one out. I loved the lampshade idea! I have been shopping for a new one and they are ridiculously expensive now. Your winter white sweater is beautiful! I am going to get some wicks and make a candle! I am knitting a sweater but it’s taking too long and I tend to give up on it.

Thank you Lisa for this wonderful video! I used to dread the cold season, especially January and February (as the Christmas sparkle is over yet it is still icy and dreary), however when I first became a mum I started to love it- more time indoors, more cookie baking, bread making and homemaking in general! Thank you for the encouragement! God bless you and your family! ✨

I love winter. There’s nothing I I don’t love about. Fall is second then spring. Summer is not my friend. Lol. I do not like summer at all. I have a immune illness and the heat of summer makes it’s worse. So, living in Kentucky, summers are rough. So I do a lot of indoor things. Thank you for your inspiration. Bless you.

January is a favorite here as we have lots of birthdays. Hobbies make the long nights shorter. Love the cozy time with family.
