Stumbled across your Chanel while searching for cedar axe. Have now hung 7 old axe heads from family barn. These axe heads have been missing handles as long as I can remember so that's over sixty years. After watching your old saws I purchased a running homelite zip chainsaw like my Dad bought in 1958. Have enjoyed your videos. Be safe!

Hey Buckin I too have reached the cross roads in my life where i feel I have to make the most important choice that I have ever made. Watching and more importantly listening to you has had a resounding effect on my life and the choices ive made of late all of which have been for the better. I have become infatuated and obsessed with chainsaws and taking the steps necessary to feed my family and myself with a saw in my hands. I feel 100% at home with it in my hands. I hope that with alittle luck and tons of hard work and dedication I too can become a wood man myself. Wish all the best to u and yours keep thegreat life lessons coming because I for one beleive in all of it.

I remember when I bought my first Stihl chain and it called for 13/64" file, so I bought a couple and used them. I had a heck of a time hitting the top plate, to a point, where it would get so thin, I would bust chunks of my top plate off in normal wood. Lol! I went back to 7/32" and it cured it. I do still use the smaller file on the last 1/4 or 1/3 of the tooth yet. Thanks for the video!

I worked on one of these saws years ago.....there is a compression release on the cylinder ya had to press in to allow you to crank the engine. What a machine...It has a double full throw crank, that's why it's so smooth, built like a two stroke racing bike engine, smooth runner with crank case stuffing for performance.

I was 8 , back in 1965. We had a bad storm in the summer and had lots of down trees. We also must have been poorer then normal cause my Dad was cutting up trees and a man was picking the wood up every week. He was cutting with a McCulloch chainsaw, it was heavy, loud and started hard. Would you know what model it might have been , back then?

The reason I do not like long bars is twofold - weight and balance. My longest bar is 25 inches and I have it and LGX on my 660. The rest of my big saws have 20 inch bars on them with full chisel chains. A 461 would be great with a long E Light bar but you would need a wheel barrow to tote it around with a standard Stihl Oilamatic bar.

Some advice on bar oil in cool and cold weather. I accidentally stumbled on a great bar oil for cool and cold weather - Echo Premium bar oil. I am not a fan of Echo products but I love their bar oil in the winter. It is tacky enough to stay on the bar at high rpms, but it also permeates every link in the chain and actually seems to clean the chain. I have been using Stihl Woodcutter bar oil or Platinum in all of my Stihl saws but I have always thought it was a little to thick and tacky in the wintertime. I have never had a lubrication problem with Stihl bar oils in warm to hot weather but I felt they were not lubricating as they should, so I have been looking for a better bar oil for cool and cold weather. My ms- 660 will eat that 770 alive. I think my ms- 360 and 361 will give it a good run for its money. They do not have the iconic sound of a Mac but they will flat cut wood. I use 13/64 Stihl files on 3/8; chain. I use 3/16 on .325 chains. I do things right by the book.
