Hey y’all!
We are finally done with Farming & Food so, it's time for a review! I remembered to include the books we used for this unit and have included a "review" of those as well. I hope y'all enjoy!

I agree! As the teacher I LOVED the note taking sections so they had to practice active listening skills 👏🏻

Oooo I love the idea of putting the recitation on the back - very clever :)

Ohhhh I love the listening prompt! Thank you for the review. This is one of the units I’ve been eyeing from gather round. I love that they cover multiple types of farms. That sounds amazing.

I am thinking of hanging the recitation on a bulletin board next year so we don’t forget it.

I’m still trying to figure out something for us. It may just take us a while to nail that part down. 😅

Hey there! I have watched your review for this and Living off the Land. I was wondering if you favored one more than the other? Or if anyone else reading this has feedback, please feel free to share! I see they have overlapping topics. It seems like they both have many opportunities for hands on activities too. I was planning to buy one of these units during the sale. Thanks!

Hi! They do share a few of the same topics, however, they are two very different units. LOTL is definitely more of a “homesteading” feel and F&F is more commercialized food. LOTL follows a family moving out West and establishing their home. F&F is more of where food comes from modern day. We enjoyed them both, but personally I liked LOTL more. That’s likely because we did more of the hands-on activities with that one though.

@@PearlsAndOak Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing that info about both of the units. That really helps! I think Living off the Land is exactly what I'm looking for! I love how it has a historical approach with homesteading and home economics intertwined too! Did you use the MP3 for this unit? You may have mentioned that in your video. I heard some samples of their MP3s and I think I'm going to go for that! My kids range from 3 - 10 so we have a lot of books and a lot of reading haha. I think I will appreciate the break for the unit study. My other choices for the unit studies are Psychology, Growing up with God, Middle Ages and possibly Europe OR Africa. I'm having a hard time choosing between those!

@@laurenc8844 We did use the MP3 and we loved it! It was so nice to have a break from reading and it was enjoyable to listen to. If it fits in your budget, I encourage you to try it out! Those are some great unit choices! As for the ones you have listed, our favorite was Africa..for sure! We loved that unit. I do have a couple of those on our list as well! 😊

@@PearlsAndOak That’s really cool to hear about the MP3s! I’m glad you all enjoyed it! And yay! I think I’ve made my choice. I’ve heard such good things about Africa. My friend did the one week sample a year ago or so when it was offered, and she said it was so much fun. My second child really enjoys geography and I think that this unit would cater to that interest as well. I’m excited! 👏🏼

For me, the technical processing of the food was much better explained visually. Once I got to that part I pulled up a video and we watched how it was processed (except for the live animals) and it made more sense to my kiddos.

We are planning to do this unit next summer/spring as my son has to learn all about different ecosystems and interdependence of animals/ food chains etc . :) I’m looking forward to it . My boys will be 14 and 9.5

Would this be good for those who have no animals or gardens? I’d like to start gardening but I don’t have one yet.

Absolutely! The unit is more of a “where does our food come from” approach vs. a “homesteading/self-sufficiency” approach.

@@ChelseaOsicka Yes! She’s settling into ER fairly well right now so, I foresee us being in that level for another year…at least 🙂
