From one stubborn farmer to another stubborn farmer number one get yourself a used grain bin for the cattle and number two you better put a stove pipe cap on the top you get one spark that flies over to your hay bales and just wait and see what happens. We'll see what you do Joe
@NorthernSeclusion2 ай бұрын
That smoke has to go through so many chambers to get out that pipe that I have never saw a spark come out of the pipe. Putting a cap on there is nothing but a creosote catcher and it greatly reduces my draft.

Yes they do, they also love raw eggs. As a kid my brother and I live trapped them and then dispatched them and got paid 3 dollars a piece. I have stories that I can tell about being sprayed and even worse. LOL. My brother Chris and ZI still talk about those days once in awhile. The reason that will not work here at all, is because we have at least 10 to 15 outdoor cats and they love tuna and raw eggs also. Most are feral so we would have a cat in that trap within 5 minutes of setting it.

George is correct. I keep a bucket over it during the non burn season and once it gets fired up it stays open for the next 7 months until it gets shut down. All a rain cap does during the burn season is collect creosote and slow down your draft. A total pain in the butt on a stove that is burning 24/7.

A much smaller breed of cattle would have been more appropriate. Even with a small cow, there will be an overproduction of cheese and butter, but it can be stored in the freezer for the fallow period.
@NorthernSeclusion2 ай бұрын
Believe me, Melissa did a LOT of research before finding the breed she wanted. We may eventually get a Jersey milker to add to the herd but their personalities are not as mellow as a Guernsey. The last thing we want is a mini cow and we are not intimidated by it being a big breed of cow. She has been making butter about every other night and we use a lot of butter so she is freezing it like you said for the dry period.

@NorthernSeclusion2 ай бұрын
I do not know where you are getting your information but it is totally false. Cows do NOT need any heat. They are more susceptible to extreme heat vs cold. All cows need is a shelter out of the wind when it is cold and shade when it is hot and a shelter they can go under if wanted when it rains. There are a lot of cows here in Minnesota and they are out eating hay during the snow. They have snow all over their backs. No we will not be building them a heated winter shelter.
