There was a great book I read on the most influential and popular fashion designers throughout the century, I wish I could remember the name... But it was great learning about all of them: Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, Bob Mackey, Rei Kawakubo, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Diane von Furstenberg...the list goes on and on! You can find lots of books at the library on the most innovative designers.

I've always wanted to learn about color theory. I'm not in fashion, but I'm fascinated at how stylist can make or break an outfit just with how they put colors together. You can tell the masters from the amateur. For example, Rihanna's cover for Harper's Bizarre China. O.M.G...freakin orgasmic. Color is everything.

Over the years I've paid a ton for courses only to find the material presented in the most uninteresting way. I literally look at the world differently because of your colour lessons series. How have you guys been implementing all this knowledge so far?

What's the definition of Undertone. I've searched all over and can't find a definition of it (a general hint I've found is that an undertone is something like a hue family). I know what it means generally but not in the context of fashion. Is an undertone the temperature?? My best guess/interpretation of what you said in this clip at frame 5:11 ("You would use a cool tone red because it has it shares a blue undertone...") is that since red is warm and blue is cool, by mixing a cool red with blue, we're transitioning to the blue, therefore a cooler temperature, as such, they share a common temperature (cool). Is this what you meant? Is that the definition of Undertone? I'm dying to figure this out. Bugs me that I don't understand the term undertone in this context.

it was really helpful,i wonder why my teachers didn`t tell me these things about color theory and design process. really great!! i was wondering if you could tell me how we incorporate or work with the color trend forecasts and the colors we derive out of our inspirations.???? because at times the colors we derive from inspirations are not at all in the forecasts of the seasons.
@zoehongteaches7 жыл бұрын
>>because at times the colors we derive from inspirations are not at all in the forecasts of the seasons. Fashion forecasters are not psychic. They predict, they try to figure out what's happening next, but they're not always right. You're not always right, I'm not always right. Using forecasts is not an exact science but my advice is not to allow one source judge your direction but research your customer and market on your own as well, and trust your gut.

I love watching you and this was really great to watch, but it also reminded me of how unreasonable art teachers are regarding "magazines". The sheer amount of money it takes to buy 3+ magazines per month, every month, in order to have access to the kind of imagery you want to represent in your final project is pretty suffocating financially and morally. I'd rather not contribute to pollution and that my teachers would be levelheaded regarding my disposable income lol.

Zoe, how to determine customer profile ? Is it by choosing a muse as in celebrity ?
@zoehongteaches7 жыл бұрын
No, it's more involved than that. It's figuring out who will buy your clothes. This can include but is not limited to: gender, age, income level (broke college kids trying to look cute on a budget? older women with extra money looking for better work clothes?), hobbies and lifestyle (are they athletic and wear a lot of sneakers and yoga pants? do they love going out dancing at night and need cute dresses?), style preference (minimalist? ruffles everywhere? lots of black?) all those sorts of things.

Warm colors: red, orange, yellow. Cool colors: green, blue, purple. And then you can have cool reds by adding a little blue, you can have warm greens by adding a little yellow, etc. Warm pinks have a little more red/orange/coral undertones, cool pinks have more blue.
