Love these ideas! I especially like that the "before" outfits are not that bad, they are just not very imaginative or exciting and so fall a little flat. I think I am guilty of wearing these kinds of outfits now and then so this was very helpful.

I have been purchasing like mad and now feel so excited to get dressed in the morning as I have choices and end up feeling more confident! I’m a high school teacher and even my students make comments on how I look today! My favorite purchases was finding a Valentino black blazer, your brown fur coat, and the By Far Boots!! Essentially “modernizing” these pieces are following what’s been trending for a few years and that is elevated athleisure wear. It’s so interesting to see how subjective taste and the concept of “modernization” is. Some of the before pieces seem dated to you but I’m surprised that you didn’t feel the same about the “Canadian tuxedo” aka double denim, which was a really popular look back around 2016/2017. Around the same time, the before blazer look was also popular. I think my biggest take away from this video is really that you should a) shop your closet and b) not be afraid to play around with textures and colors and look to online to gain inspiration. What “looks good” or is “modern” is truly in the eyes of the beholder.

Enjoying your style content. I completely agree, that investment in quality classic pieces is the way to go. I always find it interesting, to see the slight changes in those aforementioned classics. In how they are presented over the years…. How they are “modernized” for today. Also, how the fabric moves and flows or lays- is extremely important. Many times I can tell just from that by sight- what I’m expecting to feel. What’s fun for me, is that~ I can go into my wardrobe and pull my own looks together~ Because I have my all those core pieces in my decades of my wardrobe (not a minimalist) I appreciate keeping the “twee” level at a minimum 😎 I’ll also admit to having many cashmeres that are older than you 😉🥰 The white sweater is an interesting choice. To my vintage eye, this piece is literally is pulled straight out of the 1980’s TV show “Dynasty” daily wardrobe. Offering some serious Crystal Carrington day dressing vibes…. Due to the shoulder detail and padding. (oops if it’s a fancy designer 🙊🙈but 🤷🏼♀️) Fun, but this will absolutely date itself. Everyone has several of those pieces- including myself🤐 If you take acetone on a bit of cotton or a Q tip, you can remove black marks off the white rubber edge on trainers 👟

I actually think some of the outfits you’re saying is dated are probably nicer than the “modern” ones. It’s all in the way you deliver the advice - it could easily go either way and you can make the case for all these outfits. When you show the dated outfits, the way you stand is awkward and the way you carry yourself makes the outfit look bad. Then you cut away to the “modernised” version and all of a sudden you’re wearing sunglasses, your stance is more confident, you zoom into the details of the outfit and shoot the outfit at interesting angles. Just because it’s on trend, doesn’t make it a better look. I think what is more important than following trends is to find a style that works for your personality and makes you look and feel good, and then build your wardrobe around that.
@AdrienneMint Жыл бұрын
I just wanted to say, after I finished watching this video, is that I understand what you’re saying about Lydia not standing up straight in the “ dated “ outfits and standing with good posture and accessories like sunglasses, in the “ better outfits- I see what you mean. BUT I FEEL SHE IS DOING THIS AS AN ACTRESS WHO IS ACTING A CERTAIN PART, ON PURPOSE. She’s just demonstrating this for us as an actress would in a play in a theater- to emphasize what’s better. That’s all. She’s trying to make a point, by smiling and wearing accessories in the better outfits, to show us and help us look more modern. The “ bad” outfits aren’t horrible or anything. Just boring and kind of dated. Sort of no style.

@Lisa Marie Basile Using your discernment and knowing how to compare things are basic skills in life. In every domain. This is just Lydia's opinion. The fact that you feel the need to attack another woman in this way is disgusting. We should build each other up not tear each other down. The fact you criticize how she stands and carries herself only shows your own insecurities. I feel sorry for you that you needed to act in this way and come across as being superior to her. I’m shaped exactly like you. Oversized blazers can swallow us whole up top and then really broaden us below. I’m a blazer fan. I wear black trousers and white t-shirts all the time, however I top it with a blazer that may be a little oversized, but it gathers in the waist. With broader hips, I make sure my smaller shoulders are balanced and have a shoulder pad. Try a tuxedo cut. I have, I think, 4?
@a.m.j7972 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm pear shaped too, I totally feel you! It is so difficult to find tops that fit me that I don't need to tuck in, it's either too cropped, not cropped enough, not fitted at all.... It's enough that I'm petite... I agree with everyone else, broadening your shoulders and coats/accessories help a lot to draw the eyes UP, to your face, rather than down to your legs (but, depends if you want to draw attention there or not). Black pants are my best friend, wide-leg or straight leg pants are really chic and if you don't want to go for black, go for a dark color that flatters your skin tone (for me, it's dark brown). But, don't feel bad about breaking the 'rules', if you think you look good in it, feel free to rock it!
