This is great if people find it difficult to let go of certain pieces I recommend not donating selling or giving away any of the pieces you take out of your wardrobe unless they are a definite no I've never worn this and I don't like it item and just put the items you take out into a separate wardrobe or into tubs vacuum pack them so if you are making outfits out of the pieces you love and find yourself missing one of the items in storage you still have it because sometimes the only reason you didn't wear those pieces is because they were in a sea of items that didn't work with them keep them for a whole year so you have gone through all four seasons and if you never thought about them or miss them then let them go and if you feel like buying a new item go through the stuff in storage first you might already have something similar and what isnt in fashion now will come back around and you will end up having to buy them again ❤

I would love to see a part 2 of this video! I am what you would call a fashion maximalist. I derive great joy from shopping, especially hunting for treasures at discounted and thrift stores, but I am running out of space! I think too I am so in love with my fantasy self pieces that I have such a hard time giving them away, especially when I do wear them for special occasions like girls night out out, parties, weddings, etc. I am trying to better about donating what I no longer love or wear.

Now that I’m in my early 60s I’m finally letting go of pieces I just don’t love anymore, don’t suit my taste or style, or don’t really look good on me. Some things I am altering, some I am replacing with ‘this feels more me’ things. Secondhand if always possible - such as cashmere or silk sweaters. I still love dresses to death and wear one almost every day, but have let go of some boho and a bunch of my Farm Rio. It’s not me anymore. My jeans I am picky about and wear with my tops and sweaters. But I’ve been adding to my skirts. Some work, some don’t and I cull the don’t ones out. I find my style is more classic/50 and 60s retro/Ralph Lauren styles with a touch of whimsy or quirk to suit my artistic self. And I’m loving it a lot. 🥰

I can attest to the importance of having a "hold pile".I was brutal with my wardrobe, but held things back in another room out of sight. I found myself looking for a wow item and there it was all along. So one piece at a time I incorporated the "hold pile". Some things did not make the cut and I gladly donated those items.Now I look and Love my clothing, accessories and shoes, no more regrets.

Love this! The "hold pile" is like your wardrobe's secret stash. Glad you found some gems in there!

You are So right. It’s so emotional for women and their clothing. We’re valuing ourselves by what we wear. We’ve bought into the ads so much that we think we can become what we wear. For me I love the Ralph Lauren look but deep down I’m never gonna be that woman nor do I want to be honestly.

I completely agree! Fashion can definitely influence how we perceive ourselves which can definitely back fire too sadly!

Such a great points. It took me years and try and error , to get to happy place… This year, I completely changed my closet/ style. And I never been happier. From stuffy Chanel to simplistic , but edgy Old Celine, Jill sander, etc…., it’s a breath of fresh air😜 it was quite a challenge and a lot of work, to sell all old closet, and get new pieces😅 but I succeeded . I almost done with selling. Of course new things I want, the list is endless😳🤪😂😝 What I do is make pictures of all my closet, and use this style app, which allows me add to virtual closet, and create looks . I also made pictures of all things I want to get. And constantly look through them, and every time, I prioritise 2 at the time. I do look at things that will go with my closet. Times of creating one look, and then need to buy something else to go with it, is over 😅 lol. Although, I still need to buy less dresses, because that’s what I like to do. But it’s harder to make more looks with a dress. But I also got quite a few separates, that go well with each other🙌 Cause I am Libra, I get bored easy, and always looking for perfection 😳😂😂😂 Have a blessed day🙏❤️

I always plan my outfits same as my holidays ot meals. I am a planner 😂. I always put my outfits for the whole week together and that works for me like a treat. I look what I have on for each day and then i put an outfit together that works for that day and my activities. It's fun actually and iy means i do not waste any time in the mornings. I can just get up, grab it without having to think and get ready. It's important to me to always look well put together and I wouldn't be able to do that early in the morning. The pre-planning works well for me 😊
@Martina-qu9vcАй бұрын
Very interesting video! I have already been through all these processes and now I am really happy with my wardrobe, but it took me about two years! I love to plan my outfits, I always do that when still liying in the bed in the morning (although I get up at 6 o'clock) or in the evening: I go through my wardrobe in my mind (it's important that the wardrobe is very well organized!) and then I put togehther my outfits. Most of the times I change only one part of the day before (bottom or top) so it makes it much easier to find new outfits.

I'm packing to move right now & I am being forced to do a big declutter & make decisions on what to keep accessible for the upcoming weeks before we actually leave in the moving truck. Add to that it is high 90s/low 100sF where I am presently (not unusual for Oct to be this hot in this area) & where we are moving to gets snow in Winter. Luckily I did save some sweaters from when I lived in the PNW & own good heavy coats. But most of my go-tos are very lightweight pieces that can be layered (tanks, camis, lightweight big shirts, crochet cardigans, lightweight tees, sleevelss sun dresses) & I have a lot. Same with lighter weight leisure/athleisure wear. We have a walk-in closet but it is small for 2 people & just had the 2 long poles for hanging stuff. We picked up some plastic drawers for undies & socks & pjs but when you must hang *everything* your closet feels very jammed. To the point that you can't visually see everything to pull together an outfit & must keep a mental file of what you have. If you have things stored seasonally or in another closet (jackets, more formal wear, bags/hats/scarves/belts) it can be easy to forget what you have. Sometimes I think it's a matter of having the right storage solutions to get more wear from what you have. I had wanted to do a custom closet system & have my husband take the closet in an extra bedroom but it just never happened. We had other priorities.

Moving can be such a challenge, especially with all those decisions to make! It sounds like you’re doing a great job managing the heat and the packing chaos. Just remember to take it one step at a time, and you'll find the perfect balance for your new space!

Hi fellow Aussie, from Canberra! I've been doing exactly what you've suggested over the last couple of months. I bought a new place with a very small wardrobe, so getting rid of stuff was a necessity! Then I had a horror moment in David Jones with their fluorescent lighting and three-way mirrors - did my 60+yo arse REALLY look like that in those favourite pants? The HORROR! Anyway, result has been: two satin maxi skirts which are super flattering (even in DJs!) and just keeping tops which I actually love! My next challenge is to figure out which shoes for summer....I'm usually in either Docs or Birks and I'm hoping the Birks will work with the skirts. Note: I haven't worn a skirt since last century so this is a major change! I feel good in these clothes and my wardrobe can breathe! Thanks for your advice :)

I'm looking at pieces I keep 'just in case' but only kinda like & realize there are others who need & could be wearing them now. In reality, *if* an occurance arises where I'll need such an piece I can get one I really like then!
@Thestyleinsider.Ай бұрын
Yes that's a good way to look at it and that's often why I suggest holding onto pieces and just putting them aside for a while just in case that time arrives. I always try and put a deadline on how long I'm going to hold onto these pieces too!

😊Been happily No Buy/Low Buy for the last decade. Appreciate learning how to analyze inspo Looks, create outfit formulas that fit in my lifestyle, & curate my closet by Season. You might be able to wear 🐾animal print year round for example, but I typically like reserving it for 🍁Fall. There's so many fashions this season we can't wear here bcos of our🌡high heat. Willing to reevaluate things for a clear out, but I don't aspire to minimalism. I love choice too much. Besides, being a hoarder has saved my bacon in more than one instance, esp. w/fluctuating body weight↕️. Now, I've been able to keep it off for two years I can be more comfy letting things go that no longer suit me. Plus, I was raised on the idea of "occasion" dressing. Frankly, you had clothes for different purposes. It was more compartmentalized: work, church, school, designated day dates & night dates, athleisure activities, gardening, lounging (i.e., private "at home" attire we switch to after being done for the day, but you still want to look presentable for possible drop ins), & lastly sleepwear. Just like we removed our shoes👟 when inside, my family only kept our "outside" clothes on if we were going right back out again. Nowadays, I'm no longer in a corporate setting, but I've collected all these cool suits. I am trying to develop creative & casual ways to wear my suits as separates outside the office. Love blazers, but frankly can't tolerate them in my hot climate🥵 outside of temperature controlled places. Of course, I wouldn't mind exploring this topic further. No matter what, your videos never return void. There's always a nugget or two that I can take to heart. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

Suggestion - when I retired from corporate work, I donated all my suits to Dress for Success, a charity that provides nice corporate wear to women getting into the workforce from various situations. It felt good to help others, and it felt really good to have the breathing space in my closet.
