Fashions Of The Air - The 1967 Paris Air Show

This film provides coverage of the 1967 Paris Air Show. Aircraft featured in the footage include an exact replica of the Spirit of St. Louis, U.S. Navy aircraft, the American Phantom jet, Russian rockets, a full scale mockup of the British - French Concorde transport, Thunderbirds, Blue Angels, and the Douglas DC-8 Super 61, among other aircraft that represented 16 countries.

Simply the coolest footage ever!! Those were literally golden years in aviation!! Hard to believe that some of those planes (updated variations mostly) are still flying today!! I mean W O W !!!! I wish I could go back in time and attend one of those!! Today's planes are still cool, but there is something about those older planes and choppers and rockets that.... I don't know how to put it. I mean CCCP next to US and NATO craft... power houses/ enemies together in one place. WOW!!

LOL, love the shot of the crewman standing next to the fore gear of the Tupolev. I think he's just a very short man (look at his shape), but it still makes the plane look ridiculously huge, and the landing gear even longer than it really is.

I was at the Paris air show in 1969 not 1967 as titled . That was a fabulous period of my lifetime. It was the birth of the famous Concorde.

8:59 HFB 320 "Hansa Jet" with forward swept Wing design. Great engineering development but no great commercial success. This Aircraft is the D-CARY, MSN 1026 and last flown in the late 1980´s. Now Gate Guard at Hannover-Laatzen Aircraft Museum.

...but at half the fuel, 75% less pollution and 50% less noise....so there’s that. All while watching live TV (on a thousand channels) or streaming internet, texting, emailing with their EXACT position plotted by GPS. So the future is bright.

@TripleZ89 I mean here we can see the real beginnings of some very influential craft in history!! Watching those helicopters and snickering thinking, holy crap they have no idea how successful they are going to be!! Or watching some of those aircraft flying side by side even though a few years later they flew in battle against each other in one of the many conflicts that followed!! Also there is that CCCP showing: "We can crush you with this," and NATO saying: "We will save you w/ this!" XD

The engines have become more efficient and the by-pass-ratio bigger, but aside from that it doesn't look that different today. Seems all the ideas and general technology was present back then, not much has happened since. Only Avionics have changed dramatically. What plane is that starting from the runway at 9:50 to 10:00, an F-111?

Kind of an unusual narrator's accent for the era. Can't even place it, it's not exactly southern-US, it's not Central, it's not New England or California. Kentucky? Oregon? You don't here those people on TV anymore, although they still exist. The accents are all dying out though, and everyone talks like they are from California now because of TV. Luckily the South holds out, but for how long? I'm sure their accents are vanishing more with each generation.
