I'm the AV guy for Calvary Chapel Northtowns (and the worship leader). We just did our first online service two Sundays ago because of the shutdown. We used OBS that first service to stream to KZbin. For our second service (yesterday), we used vMix so we could stream to both KZbin and Facebook at the same time. We have a mixer that digitizes the audio and sends it straight to the computer, and we're using a very basic webcam for video. Our first video was a bit rough, and we're quickly learning how to make a more polished video. I think a lot of churches are in the same position - needing to quickly set up online streaming for the first time.

Thanks for your concern for our smaller churches who don't have the technical expertise we would like to make live streaming easier. A couple of issues we are dealing with: (1) We are using a Canon Vixia HF G21 camera and a ClearClick Video Capture Stick. We also used a Scarlett interface between the mixer and the laptop. Last Sunday we used Zoom conferencing software, but the video and audio are out of sync by about .5 second. How can we get them synced? (2) We had originally taken a feed from the mixer and fed it into the camera's mic jack. The video and audio record perfectly on the SD card, but the audio will not feed to Facebook. I am the pastor, and unfortunately I am the most tech-savvy person in our church. I have invested way too many hours in this endeavor that I need to spend on other areas of ministry, so allow me to thank you in advance for any suggestions and ideas. Blessings to you.

Hi. Really well put together video that I am sure will help many people out there during these extraordinary times. I will be looking to livestream my mothers cremation service this coming Friday. Due to covid restrictions on the island on which I live we are limited to 10 people at the service. We are also limited to just 15 minutes for the entire service. No point complaining, we just need to work with what we have and make the best of it - as my Mum would say. The crematorium will not provide any form of help in this, nor do they allow access to wifi, so the whole thing will need to be done using an iPhone on a tripod and livestreamed over facebook using 4G. I was going to use a Zoom conference, but there is really no need for the 2 way video element - it is more about freinds and family that are not allowed to attend watching what is going on and leaving comments. My concern is mostly about the sound, and avoiding any unfortunate noise that might otherwise drown out the words being spoken or not capture the music being played. Any words of advice or warning on any of this would be welcomed. Many thanks Julian

Which programs have you used it with? My church got a Mac Mini for running Pro Presenter right before the ban on services and I had to find out the hard way that the Elgato HD60 won’t work with any program other than Elgato’s proprietary Game Capture. I tried a hack that should make it available in OBS as an NDI source but all that did was crash OBS every time I’d try to set it up as a video source.

I actually sent back the Delgato Cam Link as I could not get it to be full frame on my Windows laptop. However, you said it doesn't work on Mac. Yes, the Delgato does which threw me as I could get it to work on my Mac, but not my Windows laptop. I was told my i3 laptop was not the right processor by Delgato. I actually bought a cheap $6.95 USB interface on eBay that works better than the Delgato. It actually works quite well on my i3 laptop using a Canon camcorder for the camera. As far as audio interface, I'm plugging from the headphone output on the church console directly into the mic input of the camcorder. Works great. I don't think I spent more than $500 for our church's whole set up.

For anyone on an extreme budget, check out the iVCam app on your phone's appstore. If you have a decent phone it's a good sub $20 solution to the camlink (sold out almost everywhere) and video camera solution offered here. There is a free version but the resolution is limited to pre DVD SD quality but it would allow you to test it before buying the app, however if you want HD resolution (and you do) you have to pay the small amount they want for the app. His comments on audio are spot on though, I don't have a better method of doing that for cheaper than what was mentioned here. A cheap 2 channel audio interface is really about as cheap as you can go to get that done. That said you can obtain used ones for less than $100. iVCam is an app that lets you use your cell phone as a web cam over your LAN wifi and since most people are walking around with decent phone cameras these days it's actually a respectable option in a pinch. If you want to mount it to a tripod there are cell phone tripod mounts on amazon for about $15-20, I recommend the Manfrotto Universal Smartphone Clamp as the cold shoe mount was a nice touch and it seems pretty well built. Also I realize this sounds like I am somehow affiliated with the app or something, I am not. I was just impressed with how well it worked on the cheap and wanted to share.

Hey. Great video and very useful. I noticed you suggested a separate audio interface for capturing the audio. We are looking at a camcorder that has xlr inputs and I was wondering whether there’s a downside to taking a feed from the mixing desk into the camcorders xlr input rather than a separate audio interface.

I used Elgato HD60 S+ with a Sony Camera 6400 and installed OBS on my macpro computer laptop and work fine need a hub stay and go and connect the hdmi from camera and ethernet cable straight to the stay and go which have a ethernet connection and I had good audio and no lagging in video and audio. That is the most basic set up I you can have. It is simple and portable. Really important run a internet speed in your computer while you have everything connected and run the setup wizard in OBS for most optimized settings. I hope this will help. The first streaming went well via Wifi but not was too reliable suggested to be wired. I hope this will help to have you running for your services. Also if the you can not stream in the Pastor house, suggest he sending the video in facebook or a youtube account where no ones knows he upload the video and then you download the video in your computer and make any rough edits. Have a nice day.

I was in a church where we used a video mixer. So we could mix 3 cameras plus everything from the computer and easily integrate lyrics, presentations, photos, video clips etc. But in this church, we recorded the service and uploaded.
@stevenborkman53424 жыл бұрын
I accomplished this by turning on ProPresenter's output to a monitor, and then capturing the desktop output (where ProPresenter and OBS are running on the same machine). The only limitation is that the monitor that ProPresenter is on must be the computer's primary video card - at least when using Windows, this was true.

Excellent, concise and straightforward for us beginners. :-) So, I attempted to hook up an Atem-mini from our sound board. Using a Samsung S10 to record the Worship service, upon playing back all was fine uh until the 20 minute mark and a loud hum came in thg through the end of the 45 minute session. Now, I was picking up my audio through the headphone jack. Is that problematic in itself, though the first 20 minutes was fine? Thank you...a first time viewer. :-)

Have you any experience with the Mevo Start? That seems to be the best option for straight streaming for us - sound quality good and relatively easy connect to streaming; also good picture quality (easier to keep landscape mode than the i-phone which refused to stay). Got it hooked into OBS using a passthrough ActionCam2PC /rtmp connection. Thought everything looked good but when we started livestreaming through OBS got buffering and lag like crazy - so much worse than just using Mevo. The only thing that came through clearly was the slides and the pre-recorded video we ran). Going to try ethernet direct into the sanctuary this week to see if it improves. That's the question - I can hook the router to my laptop - the mevo connects to OBS - will this get me anything? I need the better signal for OBS, right?

Great video. Question about music licenses and youtube. I'm pretty sure churches need a license to stream music, but the way I understand it, this doesn't work for youtube (their content ID trumps any other licenses). Also, I've heard that Facebook doesn't really have a clear music copyright monitor. Anyway, how does your church deal with streaming copyrighted church music? Thanks!
