09/22/2024 Montour, IA. Track one was off limits for most of this day because of a brush cutter. A good variety of trains to be seen along with a crossover move and a overhead view of a brush cutter returning home for the day.

To close, we had a slow mixed manifest that had an excellent array of different types of freight and cars. It included new John Deere tractors, covered hoppers, lumber, gondolas, and tankers. One of the tankers was hydrochloric acid. A fabulous train, Red! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤

Many rail videographers cut out a good portion of the cars just to shorten the video. I'm glad you don't. I'd prefer to see the entire train.

Starting from a dead stop the frac sand coal empties had to work a bit harder. Withim the last year and a half WE Energies has lost about 100 coal hoppers due to wrecks 38 or so @ Quarry and 33 @ Gothenburg NE and a few minor ones. Both priority trains really flying the first sure had a lot of reefers and the westbound looked like every space was filled. The first general Freight apparently had no boxcars but the second one it was nice to see a SD 40. 3 unique BNSF coil flats with a longer and lower design. If this train is going to the West Coast one of the CRYX reefers had Brady on the door and indeed just east of North Platte there is a town with that name but with no customers or even a siding just like Montour. Of course no train complete without a Mopac gon. That drone shot of the priority passing the stopped train just blowing by was really great
@redsiowatrainvideos66454 ай бұрын
@paulbergen9114 Glad you liked the drone shot Paul! Sometimes those West bounds will stop further East of town when signaled to. They can get a better run at the hill that way. I was wondering about the WEX coal cars myself. Plenty of coal cars stored on the old Cowboy Line👍

The closing of Union Pacific track#1 west of Montour, Iowa was the cause of some interesting train movements on 22 September 2024, Red! The cutting of brush near track #1 was scheduled on a Sunday since there would be fewer trains than on a weekday. That combined frac sand train with the empty coal gondolas was a long train. It would have been a bonus if you could have caught the brush cutter in action. I would have found it interesting to see the brush cutter in action. (Posted 29 September 2024 at 1454 CDT.)

not being acquainted with the geography of your area: are the EB's headed to Ft. Madison & where does LaPlata fit into the sceme of things I need to get my atlas out for a study lesson. Another great video.
@stevekrantz47924 ай бұрын
This is the main Union Pacific line that runs through central Iowa. This used to the the ❤Chicago Northwestern mainline before being bought by the UP. East bound is heading to Clinton, IA then on to Chicago. What you’re referring to is the BNSF line that goes through LaPlata, Mo and then just barely comes through Iowa through Ft Madison before crossing over the Mississippi into Illinois. That’s the old Santa Fe mainline. The other BNSF line that runs across southern IA is the old Burlington Route mainline. Both BNSF lines go through Galesburg, Illinois before heading to Chicago.
