If anyone has any questions, Holland is one of the prettiest countries & I have done a huge chunk of Europe. It will be my most memorable trip. The biking was awesome in '87. I love how things have evolved.

The mopeds would be a lot quieter if they were electric, and I am sure that is coming. The speed differential would still be a problem, though.

I see Holland has the same dull colored automobiles as the States has these days. It wasn't always that way, but then again, same goes for over here. I was surprised I didn't see more of the new Fiat 500's in this video, although I did see three. From what I've read, they're all over in England. I enjoyed the modern Holland in this video. Uden looks nice. I've memories of Nederland in the '60s & '70s. Baarn & surrounding areas.

At 4:30 it’s great to see houses on the cycle street. Car owners can use the street but they are at cycle speeds so it’s quieter and much safer. This is a better solution than a cul-de-sac in an American neighborhood.

Because it could. If there are no crossing traffic-lines the base position is apperently set to green light for cyclists and pedestrians.

My city just put in cycling roundabouts on both sides of a foot bridge. It's a busy route along the canal and this will improve the merging with other cyclists.

Wow, y'all really do have a problem with the scooters on the cycle paths! They're louder than and go just as fast as the cars. Our cycling infra here in the US is abysmal, but of the cycling/walking paths we do have, no one would ride a scooter on them.

if you look there are signed that say cycles and low powered scooters only I think 50cc and limited to 30kmh but they do seem to be going faster sometimes 🤦‍♂️🛵✌

@@wanderingbox7971 again it is a question of supply and demand, there are some electric versions available. The second hand market is still in its infancy, for all electric vehicles. Think it doesn't make sense to pretend traffic electrification by simply transition from gas to electric. The whole system needs to be changed.

I wear my Tilley hat while driving because it keeps the sun out of my eyes. This becomes important as you get older. However, I do notice that other drivers are sometimes surprised... to discover I do NOT dawdle when moving away from the lights! I am sure I think slower than I used to, but not so slow as all that. :-)

I wonder if it is a good idea for the Netherlands to significantly reduce motor vehicle tax and instead tax older cars more, while providing incentives to buy new cars instead of used cars. I think that way there’d be lower emissions in general.

@@KleineJoop I definitely agree with you on that. It is good to get people to cycle more, but the most common form of transport in the Netherlands is still a private car, and having an old car fleet is not the way to go (the average car in the Netherlands is 11 years old). My idea is that by modernizing the car fleet, and increasing the number of FEVs, there would be a significant decrease in emissions. But I believe that the government has indeed taken on that stance and is now providing subsidies for buying new, affordable electric cars within a certain price range, which looks promising. I'd also like to add that I am looking at Norway in particular as a sort of role model country when it comes to this topic.

What about people who can be happy thy can buy car of 500 euro ? With forcing people to buy new cars it wil come to that onlye people with money can have car. Am 37 and i dont have car because i dont need to but i know some people. Who dont have much money and are happy thy can buy one of 300 euro. Who now get feeling. You cant drive here because you are poor. And you need park out side of City.

@@wanderingbox7971 installing an electric drive train in a old car is done, however it is fairly expensive. There simply is not an option to drop it in 'off the shelf'. The old 300-1000 cars should be sent to the breakers yard.

Dutch motor vehicle tax is already dependent on how heavy (and by proxy polluting) your car is. Diesel gets taxed way more than gasoline too. There also was a tax deductions fund for buying electric vehicles. It was so popular that it ran out much earlier than anticipated. In short, some things are being done/tried.

The entire section from Oss to Uden is either cycling first or cycling only. Only in Uden do you get car first infrastructure. It's not the prettiest in the Netherlands but it's better than is typical anywhere else. Parts are also due to be upgraded anyway. It needs to be even better, and everyone knows that.
