I think we doesn't have fast draw competition here in Hungary, but I would like to try it. It's amazing how fast you can shoot on target Mr. Darby. Are you faster than Clint Eastwood? : )

"Dumb question: Do you recommend training with one of the higher end realistic BB/Pellet replicas or just sticking with the real thing? Reason I ask is, due to a requirement of my job, I now live in a small city and am not able to train with my real gun like I used to when I lived out in the country and getting to the range frequently (more than twice a week, mostly on week-ends)as I would like to isn't always an option. I used to be able to go out in the woods behind our house to a little range I had set up whenever I wanted to, but now I can't. I want to start competing and I know realistic training is very important, and I don't want to 'mess up' in any way.

The Japanese have some good pellet guns that they use for doing Fast Draw (real guns aren't allows for private ownership), but they aren't available over here in North America. I don't know of any BB or pellet guns that would stand up to the stresses we put on them in Fast Draw. I live in a city, and in between range sessions where I can shoot wax bullets I use lasers to practice in my basement. That's probably your best option.

if you're gonna fire a revolver holding it right by your side instead of holding it in front of your body, arent you risking getting burned by the powder flash that come from the barrel cylinder gap?
@fastdraw1018 жыл бұрын
+kenneth risner - Correct. Many shooters who use this style have a patch of leather that they wear attached to the top of the gunbelt in the location next to where the cylinder gap is positioned when they fire the gun. This prevents any burns, and saves their clothing.

thanks mr darby. i saw this on another video and it made me remember many years ago, i thought a revolver i had, had shaved lead and got in my leg. another question sir. are you the the same mr darby that is well known for gun spinning?
@fastdraw1018 жыл бұрын
+kenneth risner Yes, one and the same. Details can be found at howarddarby.com
@kennethrisner86488 жыл бұрын
well mr darby it is indeed an honor. i have had a couple very small movie parts, as an extra, and recently in an indi film. the director had told me that the skill of gun spinning, can land people roles. at one point a couple years back and after dropping my heritage roughrider alot of times and even knkcing the barrel lose and having to use lock tite on it, i actually got half way decent at forward and backward spinning, but i cant even imagine being able to do the sideways spin that you do, no matter how long i worked at it lol. i have seen your videos, ill check that link. once again, it;s an honor

What holster are you using in this video? it looks exactly what i want..
@fastdraw1017 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay, Jerry. The manufacturer of this holster was a shooter who made them for friends, not as a business. I've tried to contact him, but no luck. I think he may have stopped making them, so at this time I can't provide any help with it.

Thank you. thats to bad.. it looks great.. I had a custom made holster i got back in the 80"s by a man named Joe Dakota at Tombstone Junction in Kentucky.. Had it all these years loved it dearly even had my initials JC right on the side of the holster..then somewhere somehow about 3 years ago when i was moving from Fairfield to Middletown it went MIA.. cant find it anywhere.. was hoping if it ever turned up i could find it even has stamped on in side made by Joe Dakota for Jerry Crank.. and can only be used for fast draw..was an amazing holster.. wish it would turn up.. wish i had a way to get it out the on the look out for.. in our Ohio Kentucky shoots..

Whats name of the your gun ?
@fastdraw1014 жыл бұрын
It is a Ruger Vaquero... but the older version. The one Ruger sells now is the "Ruger New Vaquero"... the one in my video is an original version that was bought in the mid-1990s, then I had a jeweller engrave it, then nickle and gold plated.

Id just smoothly draw without getting out of balance, this dosnt look really natural. But id probably be dead in a duel with you unless its not anduel a we are able to move around lol

I understand the concept of fast draw trying to simulate a western type feel. Back in the days of the west if you even touched your pistol you were a dead man if you were not as fast as your adversary. No one who faced off in a gun fight had their hand on their gun waiting to draw. To me this is not a true fast draw just cheating.
@kimthurston91926 жыл бұрын
There were very few (if any) "showdowns" in the old west, thats all hollywood. Wild Bill Hickock had a documented gunfight at about 50 yards and it wasn't the fastest who won it was the coolest and most accurate (Hickock). Most Gunfights" were 2 or more guys plugging away at each other until someone was hit or they ran out of bullets.

^^^that, also, safety. You don't wanna a novice to throw his or her pistol downrange because they got a bad grip or was too nervous.
