Great tip! For some reason logic won't let me select the "replace or double drum track" option (its greyed out in the menu) on all of my drums and 90% of my tracks. Anyone have any idea why this may be the case?
@westbethkid Жыл бұрын
I think you have to have selected an audio track in the Main/Arrange window, it works for me. If you have selected a Midi track it will be greyed out.

Great video! One thing that I'm curious about and I've run into this issue a few times... is there an easy way to deal with the snare when the drummer switches to rim hits mid song? I suppose adjusting the threshold is one way or using the original take but I was curious if there is a way to make it track the difference.
@NilsHedstrom5 жыл бұрын
This is awesome! Going to record an EP and this will definitely boost my snare sound if my tuning/head is not perfect. In school we recorded a project in a hurry on a snare that hasn't been properly tuned in months and with drum replacement it actually sounded good!
@tripad3lphia6 жыл бұрын
Welp, I fail at step one, my "replace or double..." is greyed out. I've already created a custom kit but want to go back and change my snare type, can't seem to bring up the kit editor and have a feeling I'm going to have to create a whole new kit just to change my snare. So far I'm unable to ask Google the right question, any tips welcomed. lol
@tonymancini81705 жыл бұрын
Aaron Moses I know this is a million years later and you probably already found the answer, but make sure you’re not working with multiple takes. It will only work on a flattened drum performance. It would be easiest to comp the performance, do any timing corrections, and finish with triggering samples. Hope that helps!

@drummerboypoyntz877 жыл бұрын
You can use the gate as a trigger which is what I've done in the past, but it doesn't detect different velocities. So my new favourite method is using the bend tool to detect the transients, then dragging the entire track into a virtual instrument (like impact). This detects the velocities as well as the position of the transients and so replicates the original performance much more faithfully. Search for KsndDEF video on Studio One 3 drum replacement, its quite an easy method once you've figured out what you're doing.
@joeribraams7 жыл бұрын
Open the quantization menu and click groove on the left. Then drag the entire drum track into that black rectangle thing. It'll do some analyzing and you'll see some little lines show up in the black box where the drum hits are. Then you open an instrument track with the snare you wanna use, and drag the groove from that black box to the track. Last step is to change the pitch of the midi notes to the one used by your sampler, they all come out as C3 normally. This process also keeps the velocity information intact.

Can you load a 3rd party sample to be triggered with the stock logic trigger
@liamrocks05 жыл бұрын
Yes my dude! After you load up a logic sample, replace the sample in the EXS24 (click the edit button on the plugin, drag your new sample in) hope this helps :)
@mediamanhouston96616 жыл бұрын
I use this technique but usually about 20 or 30 % of my doubled snares aren't perfectly in phase with the original snare. If i zoom way in to the sample iI'll notice that sometimes the sample is off a little causing a phase cancelling type sound. It's really tedious to go in note by note and line them up for a 4 minute song. Any suggestions for this?

Hello Warren! Can you suggest please how to remove click when it bleeds through the headphones in mics, when recording only 1 acoustic guitar (fingerstyle), especially in quiet parts? i need click cause i want perfect timing and to put afterwards in some parts delay effect.
@SteveH4es4 жыл бұрын
Try to turn the click down or point the mic away but to where it still gets the job done. Or you could try a buffer. Piece of material in between your phones and the mic. Make sure your headphones are really isolating. Not loose on your ears or sound will sneak through. Orrrrr i think there might be plugins Jsut for this if you look it up. Key Is prevention. Not rely on fixing later. Hope this helps.
@SteveH4es4 жыл бұрын
Also, if you’re using a condenser mic , it will come through more than if you used maybe a dynamic. Try different mics.

I hate samples/replacement/augmentation. Whatever you choose to call it. If you can't adequately mic drums you are in the wrong line of work. "It doesn't sound, too fake"... that is just an unbelievable comment... If your artist can't play their own instrument competently, well that's just pathetic.
@Producelikeapro7 жыл бұрын
I completely understand if a technique goes against your sensibilities! As a Professional Producer/Engineer and Mixer many of us are faced with having to not only fix but change sounds for many artistic reasons. Tricks to augment and/or replace sounds have been around for many years. Jack Douglas, Shelly Yakus, Jay Messina and many other people have described doing various techniques since the early 70's, it is what Professionals have done to get the best results they can. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

You’re a jackass. This is done on literally every recording in every studio on any record you’ve heard in the last decade. You need to wake the fuck up and look around. NO one uses acoustic drum sounds anymore. Get off your high horse and actually learn something useful.
