Not McDonald's related, but I remember getting Chex Quest from a box of cereal, and it blew my mind. Keep in mind, my levels of excitement from getting a free game were off the scales because this was during the infancy of the internet, before everyone had a bunch of free games and had accumulated crazy digital backlogs. Most kids my age only got a game if a special occasion came up, like Christmas or a birthday, so getting one for free from a box of cereal was the stuff of playground myths back in the 90's. But what really made my little kid mind explode over Chex Quest was seeing how legitimately good it was. I was expecting it to be terrible since I got it out of a cereal box, but when it wasn't, it felt like I found a leprechaun riding a unicorn over a rainbow, which is to say, *HOLY COW THIS IS RARE!*

Back when I was in elementary school I got a Ben 10 watch with my happy meal that actually told the time and it was useful when I was in class and wanted to know what the time was without having to ask our teacher for it. I still have it somewhere and aside from a discharged battery it should still work to this day. It was a really nice bonus to include in a happy meal.

I don't know if they still do it when Pokemon stuff happens, but getting a Pokemon Figure along with a Pokemon Card back then was a cool thing. I also remember some of the pretty neat Nintendo toys there used to be in BK and McDonald's. A Metroid Maze, Paper Mario Cut Out minigame, a Luma that lights up with a small Wii Remote, and a lot those tiny consoles themed after stuff like Crash, Spyro, Sonic, all that stuff. It was pretty cool back then.

He's wearing his racoon ears and tail, and he's sitting on a spring loaded bouncy thing with a suction on the bottom to keep him stabilized onto whatever surface you put him on. McDonalds really did kill it with Nintendo stuff, even way back in the day. Wish they'd do something crazy with Nintendo toys now.

I remember when the first Power Rangers movie came out, McDonald’s had a Happy Meal toy line where each Happy Meal came with a Ranger AND the Mech that ranger piloted in the movie. Best of all, when my family went to McDonald’s during that promotion, the person at the register actually let us pick the Ranger toy that came with our Happy Meal. I picked the Black Ranger because I thought he was coo.

I think it was back in 2005, when revenge of the Sith came out, Burger king had these really cool star wars toys. I wanted the Darth Vader one so bad, but could never get it. Until one day, I decided to just ask the person behind the counter for the Darth Vader one and they gave it to me. It blew my mind because little kid me did not think that was allowed at all.

My favorite fast food toy was the Mario figure, from ironically, Wendy's. Unlike the KFP4 figures, Mario had actual articulation, ranging from his head, arms, and even legs. It even was packaged like a genuine action figure!

As a father of 2 young kids I cannot tell you the disappointment I feel (for them) when I see the trash toys they get from a modern happy meal. It makes me even more sad when they seem happy with it. The latest ones they got were mr men plushies (they both got little miss sunshine!) it had a little hoop on top so I was like “well at least we can hang it in the car on the rear view mirror”. But, no. The hoop was too small. Damn you to hell McDonald’s. But they were still happy with it (cute). They had no idea they’d been stitched up and that 30 years ago the toys were infinitely better. I’m not sure what’s worse, knowing that all you get these days is a load of garbage. Or not knowing?
