Great video coach. On a slightly different topic but still related to head movement - who are the best fighters ever fighting in the pocket? I can only think of Tyson and he had brilliant head movement. Maybe James Toney too but I'd like to study guys who could defend while also being on the attack

hi coach. I have noticed with pro fighers and you as well that when they are practicing combos, they don't keep the opposite hand to the cheek (as a guard) when throwing a particular punch. Is that something that we can let go of while practicing combos or should we always have the habit of keeping the other hand up as a guard with every punch?
@PrecisionBoxing3 жыл бұрын
As long as the hand is at least coming back to the chin you are ok. The cheek is a bit too much. But of course in some cases I have bad habits that I can adjust. Miguel Cotto is a good example of a fighter who keeps a nice guard.
@sagarseshadri78103 жыл бұрын
@@PrecisionBoxing alright coach will check him out. What is the disadvantage of keeping a guard throughout the combo? Does keeping a guard during every punch in the combo take away speed or balance? I feel there's nothing better if you can keep your other hand in guard because that way you are always protected (at least from one side) and also I feel I can use the leverage/rotation of the hand coming back to guard to get power in my punches (like a push and pull).
@maximummaximum72663 жыл бұрын
@@sagarseshadri7810 you should also check protecing the chin with shoulders. The hands arent the only line of defense. Also there are frames in the match, like if you got an dominant angle, where you dont need to protect one side for short time periods. Also check "attack by drawing" as leaving intentional openings in the guard to bait the oponent. This can particularly also happen during your combos and not only in between the exchanges.
@sagarseshadri78103 жыл бұрын
@@maximummaximum7266 nice pointers man. I'm a beginner right now so trying to build some basic habits. Just wasn't sure if keeping the opposite hand up everytime is a good beginner habit or not. Because it's gonna be really hard to let go of that habit if it's not the right thing to do.

Nice vid. What glove oz do you use for heavy bag and mitt work? I've only ever used 16s for both sparring and bag/mitts. I was told to try out 12s for the latter but I'm fairly big and fast so I have good power and I don't want to mess up my wrists, but apparently it's better for working on technique.
