For my SP and SSF bros starting a new chatacter. 1- 15: Tristram 15-20: Tal Rasha's Tomb 20-40: Normal Eldritch 40-60: Nightmare Eldritch 60-80: Hell Eldritch 80-97: Diablo 97-99: Diablo and the a5 dude with the impossible name to spell Always play on the highest player difficulty you can handle. Sigon's and Civerbs weapon are also really good to have for early levels.

​@@RyanJ_24 It's probably the best way to farm xp for an offline character. Eldritch always spawns right above the first wp in a5 so you don't waste any time getting there. On hell he can also drop some good socket bases like monarchs and cryptic axes.

I have been playing diablo 2 extensively for the last 5 years and I learned a new strat in this video. I never thought to reroll wands, staves, and orbs for the early gold. Thanks for the tip! Also in your rundown of the useful early sets and uniques you failed to mention the stats that make them worth using. Cow king set (especially the boots) lots and lots magic find with the other useful mods you mentioned. Stone of jordan is more than +1 skills, it has HUGE mana. Another useful set for magic find is tancreds amulet and boots. With the 2 piece set bonus, the amulet gets 78mf, and the boots get 10 dex and 30frw. That is as much mf as a perfect war trav plus a 28 mf amulet for the price of a couple of nickels

Also, anyone playing a Bowazon, if you sell your stack of arrows to an NPC that has an open space for it, it will automatically refill the stack and you can then just buy it back. Saves you the trouble of having to visit multiple merchants to restock on arrows/bolts.

Just a nice addition regarding belts with 12 slots, I believe you can gamble for one at level 7-9 in Act 1. Once you hit this level head over to Gheed and refresh that gamble button until a belt pops up and boom, 12 slots nice and early which means less Akara runs.

Cow games aren't as common on normal, especially at the start of the ladder season, and doing either eldritch/shenk (with aoe) or bloody foothill runs seems far more efficient than continuing to do tomb runs to 24. For most players you're not going to get to lvl 99, chances are you're going to get bored of it before you get much further than lvl 90. 86 is good enough for most crafting and doesn't take a whole lot of effort to get to if you can consistently get into baal runs. If its your first ladder, don't try to burn through the entire game because there really isn't much to do in D2 by todays standards. If you don't mind the slower gameplay then just enjoy playing through the game with some friends, it's still a hell of a lot of fun.

I would recommend to every melee class to just buy a 3 sockets flail and put 3 rals in there instead of making cheap runewords. the damage is insane for normal difficulty

Note to new players trying ladder… you cannot find reliable or even at all find Baal groups (hell) until several days into ladder. Most exp players r private running… I would recommend getting the lvls while MF and doing cows.. then continue when you won’t waste half a day sitting in lobby for fail baals

Right, onto actual topic, thanks for the guide, nice to have something to fall back on to optimize how I'm doing things, even if I don't tend to go for MAX Damage, or whatever you wanna call the most popular builds. I don't fully agree with waiting until 40 to go to NM mode. It's designed for you to get there about level 30. The main reason to wait until 40 is for the increased efficiency of exp/hr in group/online play and to ensure you can do NM ancients as soon as you get rushed through that difficulty.

On season 2 now, but its mostly still all applicable, I however I leveled mostly from cow levels got pushed to nightmare and did cow runs, pushed to hell same thing, cows geared me out almost completly and I hit 75 in 2 days.. groups are sometimes flakey but if you get in a good group stay with them

2:00 tristram is a waste of time. I'd rather get the 2-3 extra Countess runs to get my RalRal helm and Stealth and Leaf if a going fire in normal. I'll pay Cain to identify stuff in A2. 3:30 You shouldn't need to do tombs, you can get this XP in Flayer Jungle and should be arriving at Travincal around level 19.8 to 20. 4:20 5:30 Shouldn't need to do cows or baal runs, level 28-30 in Nightmare is just fine and the increased Champ/Unique pack spawns will catch you up quickly. I'd do Cows a bit when transitioning from NM to Hell to find some runeword bases if I need any and definitely to find resist charms. 14:30 I'll drop Stealth if I'm lucky enough to find Hawkmail on a melee or Assassin. None of the advice in this video is bad. You can play exactly as he outlines in the video with great results. I've been playing HC for like 13 or 14 years though and dabbled in some speedrunning as well. Glad he went over the vendor gear, especially the teleport staff 10/10. Should definitely shop a 3os Large Shield in A2 as well in preparation for Ancients Pledge in NM. I think some of the most valuable and overlooked playthrough/leveling advice is learning which maps are set maps, which maps are random (but how their tiles interact with each other), and lastly which maps have set patterns such as how Catacombs 3 is always right of Catacombs 2 WP or how Underground Passage to Dark Wood is always straight, etc... Learning the maps can save you hours in a normal to hell play-through. Time yourself during a Normal Act 1 from start to killing Andariel and if you're not under 40 minutes you should study the maps. Some classes like Assassin or Blaze Sorc should take 30-36 minutes to complete Act 1 on Normal.

When making suggestions for rune words, why do you suggest that you get the gear from Normal difficulty to make them? Is it just a case of lower stat/lvl requirements to use the gear? Or is there some other benefit?

Requirements is part of it but is also the number of sockets. If an items has too many sockets it cannot be used and people often use the act 5 quest (always granting maximum sockets for that item level/item type.) Whether you use the quest reward or cube recipe to add sockets the odds are best with the right item level, item level is chosen by what and where the item dropped. If you are refering to spirate sword from the Secret cow level it is somewhere that is very farmable having so many mobs at just the right ilvl for many useful base items early game. You also need items that are not magical, meaning when buying from vendors lower difficulties is often better!

The cube bit is amazing! I’m actually crying 😂. Just to add the zephyr rune word you can’t find the runes from normal countess. You can only drop up to a “ral” rune. I’m order to get it you need to either get a lucky drop in tombs or later. When people get them “from countess” they got 3 ral runes and upped them to an Ort rune in the cube. Yet another well put together guide for beginners! Well done.

When i still played D2 we just rushed lvl 1 characters to Hell a5 and from there we went UT leveling with a group. Lvl 1 to 90 in about 2 hours or something. Can people still do that or was it patched?

Yes and no . It's harder and you need a friend to do Cow level easy with you to an amount of level and after cow level to nm to an amount and then and only then cow level to hell. I miss the old time

Heya there, even though this is a good very thorough leveling guide, this is not the most efficient one if you want to go to level 99 on the ladder. Most devoted players and streamers will have diablo and baal prepped games for them where they just enter the game and diablo dies. but for the rest of us there is one way to do it faster than youre describing. Which is getting a character done in pre expension hell act 4. convert that character to expension and grind chaos till 98. at 98 you kill ancients normal nightmare and hell for a nice boost of experience. afterwards go do baal runs and while the rest is teleporting and grinding the waves go and quickly seal rush and kill diablo and nihla. preff with the experience shrine. other than the experience shrine (giving 50%), you very much need these 2 items. Annihilus, unique small charm: +5-10% To Experience Gained Ondal's Wisdom, unique Elder Staff: +5% To Experience Gained

Worth pointing out to those who may not know; it is exponentially difficult to get into the high 90s levelling in Diablo 2 for a number of reasons; 1: Exp requirements increased exponentially as you level. It takes as much xp to get from 98 to 99 as it does to get from 1 to 70 2: Monster levels as they drift from your own reduce in xp gained until it drops as low as 5% with a 10 level difference. Most high level areas only go to 85 for packs and 88 for uniques. Hence why only Diablo, Baal and Nihlathak are mentioned as viable they are level 94, 99 and 95 respectively 3: On top of this, every character gets further reduced xp based on their level starting at 70. It's cut in half by level 80, a quarter by level 85, and by 98 you can only ever get 0.59% XP of the XP you would normally get. I cannot stress this enough; getting to 99 is arduous, generally not worth your time, and only for the most dedicated players. It'll take you ideally about a month if you play consistently pretty much all day optimally, and realistically months otherwise.

Well it takes longer but in normal ive found you can actually just set player count to 8. You're nearly level 17 by the time you get to countess running for your stealth. Level 21 by andariel. Then you pretty much blow through everything keeping above level requirements the whole way, then just farm that one dude after the first waypoint you hit in act 5. You're like an extra hour or two behind timewise but you're a whole lot of a higher level then what this guys talking about. Then nightmare becomes something where you only thought it was the easiest before. But hell difficulty is still hell. Gotta farm nightmare mephisto for some survival gear.

There's better places to lvl especially if you're playing solo or just can't find a game because the match maker on consoles is crap so you end up alone anyway you're not clearing baal solo at 25. Also a lot of sets he didn't mention have great buffs with 2.4. It really feels like he made this video when d2r launched and just reuploaded them for clicks

When you're more familiar with the game, monster immunities are less of an issue. There are some uniques that spawn with certain mods that are very difficult to kill so you will still skip those, but most of the rest of the game is fine if you have the right gear. If you're playing solo, overleveling helps a lot. Assuming you're online, join baal runs just for the purposes of leveling and then go back to soloing if that's your thing. So taking normal baal to like 45, nightmare baal to 65-75.
