I assume you'd want the tensioner on the bottom of the chain because you'd want uninterrupted tension on the top. Tension on the top is pulling to rotate the wheel while the bottom its pushing the chain towards the rear wheel

Your chain tensioner is installed WRONG! It must be on the botom chain (chain return to the motor) and lifting up, What you have is on the torque side lifting up which dose nothing but try to lift chain against the FULL torque of the motor. Put it on right and the chain can be looser reduceing drag and binding while the tensioner keeps the chain from flopping. This might get you over 40kph. Hope thid helps.

I got a razor e300s brand new last December and I have bearly used it due to the fact I can't go full throttle in my area. where I am can only go around 5 miles and hour but I've saw you can get a variable speed throttle so I plan on getting one of these and hopefully I get more battery out of it because instead of having to go on and off the throttle to keep it around 5mhp I will be able to just hold it around that speed with the new throttle and therfor i think I'll get more battery life. What do you think?

Thanks! It'd be pretty impossible to make any money doing that, particularly as there's a certain skill level required to bodge the better MOSFETs into the original controller. It's also not really the easiest, quickest way to make a fast scooter - just the way I wanted to do it. There are some upgrade kits out there already for E300s which do offer folks varying levels of success.
@ukaszjot8078
@ukaszjot8078 7 жыл бұрын
Dude, WTF are you doing with the chain tensioner? Just assemble it right already... There is no need to put tension on the upper part of the chain, the motor is already doing this job. You need to assemble it under the returning part of the chain. Your whole thinking about the chain length is pointless... That said, I must admit that with your way of assembly it is probably a bit more quiet...but not doing any job, so you can just unmount it going this way. Also, 40kph on this scooter is a bit crazy. I also put 500W motor on E300, but did not change the gear ratio (new motor also has 11T sprocket for 25h chain). This way I get ~30kph on freshly charged batteries, good torque (easily climbs on most of city hills) and range (~20-25km on 24V/16Ah li-ion battery). And the adjustable throttle - this is a must! Not very expensive one though. New controller + throttle is ~$25 from China (even a fancy one with voltmeter and ignition key). Good luck!
@WhatUpTKHere
@WhatUpTKHere 7 жыл бұрын
Which controller are you successfully using with variable throttle that can handle 36V/500W?
@ukaszjot8078
@ukaszjot8078 7 жыл бұрын
I am using YK31C. It's the most popular one. I have a 350W controller, but it's current limit is set to 25A (I use 24V system, 7s5p 18650 battery and same 1020 motor, 500W, but @24V). This way you actually get almost 600W limit, so it gives you a full power when you want to go top speed, but limits the current when starting, so it doesn't pull too much. Nice setup, can definitely recommend, With Sanyo ncr18650BL batteries I have like 16.5Ah, which is enough for ~20-25km. I also have a cheap throttle from aliexpress, half wrist, same as the original. But when I go on bumpy pavement I start to thing a thumb throttle (like for an ATV) might be a better idea.
@Dlogreen
@Dlogreen 6 жыл бұрын
omg, awesome. I was just asking him about a YK31C and whether I could be frying mine by changing the gearing. I've been running the 24V 500w controller at 36V, but am going back to 24V and regearing to mitigate some of the loss in power. Do you think I'll fry it at 24V with a 15t pinion , 55 rear and 500W motor on 24v?

How can you not consider the most obvious and crucial thing for top speed. At 53 kph, you had 0 load on the rear wheel. What about your weight and the scooters weight?

I talk about that! Unloaded rear wheel speed isn't equal to top speed thanks to many losses - rolling resistance, aero, etc.

I would like links where i can purchase components. Eg speed controllers and variable throttle controller . I have no wiring @ all to go on - so it will be guess and go. I am familiar with some electronics . there's a warehouse near by that does mosfet s and a ton of other bits. . I,m keen on a simple throttle concept 36v . I may need some of your amazing info. The speed loss due to drive train resistance should have no appreciable difference between your theoretical top speed and your actual speed. It is the same drive train and that resistance is not modified by driving down the road. Unless you are riding up a hill which would increase your loss due to fighting gravity, or you are riding against hurricane force winds which would increase the loss due to the resistance to the wind, your speed loss will be almost completely due to road friction, not wind resistance. Compared to the speed loss due to road friction, wind resistance is a non issue and comparatively inconsequential. Road friction will increase with the weight of the scooter and the weight of the rider added to the equasion, neither of which was a factor when the wheel was free spinning in the air.
@WhatUpTKHere
@WhatUpTKHere 5 жыл бұрын
I'd disagree, as the slop in the drivetrain bearings, etc. will change when 80kg of Australian is placed on the board. But I get what you're saying. The horrible drum break is a big pain, tbh. Drags so much.
@tKetcham1
@tKetcham1 5 жыл бұрын
@@WhatUpTKHere the almost incalculably small difference due to any, as yet undemonstrated, bearing slop caused by a rider is also nothing compared to road friction Road friction is where nearly all energy loss occurs in all vehicles that travel with their weight during travel supported widirect contact with the surface over which it is moving All other loss is minuscule in comparison. Bearings are so good at avoiding at causing energy loss because they are specifically designed with tolerance standards so high that they are for the most part virtually friction free and are designed to remain so when carrying a load.in other words, they are designed to function so as to avoid what you assert is an inherent friction l loss.this does not happen under load unless the bearing is bad.

In my experiance with close to the same setup, I'd say you are over gearing it. The motor is getting hot because it's not turning enough rpm. I think you'd get closer to your target with a lower gear.

TK. I just upgraded the e300 to 36 volts. New controller, a new battery, so now there is three batteries. New throttle. Which would be faster, the original motor, or a 500 watt motor? Please let me know and thank you. Kenny
@WhatUpTKHere
@WhatUpTKHere 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenny, well, it depends if you choose a 500W motor that also has a higher RPM/Volt rating than the stock one. I made the mistake of choosing a more powerful motor, but one that turned slower at 36V than the stock one. This meant I had to muck around changing gears. I suggest checking out my video on photo tachometers, and then using one to measure the no-load RPM of your current motor on 36V. Then you can shop around to see if you can find a higher power motor that also runs at the right speed. Can be tricky! You can always consider changing gearing, too, of course. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4e2gn-co7Csqs0

Great job. But what I did with mine was replaced the motor sprocket with a 13t and the same time replaced the rear plate sprocket with a 15% smaller one ( came from a shopping cart scooter and modified the holes to fit the Razor). The result was crazy fast, it's scary

Bought a variable speed controlled and bumping it to the 500w Motor to start. Can't wait to get it bolted together. Debating buying a second E300..
