The fastest and easiest way to UV map in Autodesk Maya just got even better with free update 4. Use the new features to automatically create UVs any way you want, and then tweak them without losing your changes or needing to switch to a different tool.

I know I keep saying the same thing every time but brilliant work. This'll speed up my process even further. I was initially afraid, when I saw that options like layout UVs and texel density weren't there but then I bonked myself on the head and remembered that they're in the UVMapper and all the new changes are in the Unwrapper. With my last semester starting, I'll be looking forward to implementing all the new features into my workflow. Excellent job once again, by far my best purchase for Maya.

Hey Malcom, I have purchased several of your plugins, thank you so much. I would like to be able to layout/unwrap uv's but keep stacked shells together as a group. This is very useful for getting models game ready.

Amazing tool! One thing I was wondering is if there's a way to use the unwrap/layout UVs features with pinned shells? Currently pinning seems to get ignored and pinned shells get repositioned when used.

Thank you, I've looked into it and there does not seem to be a way to pin UVs and then layout, it appears Autodesk hard coded it so layout ignores the pinning? What's the point of pinning, it's basically useless. I did figure out how to do UV grouping though which you can see here in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqqpd6Ctm5iVbac

Really Great work!) Do you plan maybe, to create some plug or script for beveling? Maya’s bevel brings so much pain to bevel corners etc. All other softwares have dynamic corner beveling. So disappointed about such a weak Maya’s development recent years, even started to learn Blender planning to switch modeling to it and to use Maya only for rigging.

Thanks, yeah the bevel in Maya is not great and the bevel modifier in Blender looks very nice. I haven't learned how to create plugins yet, that's still far above my coding level at this point. If you're working with smooth mesh preview in Maya you can use the crease workflow which is non-destructive beveling, but it has it's limitations. If it's just for low poly modeling maybe check out this guy's plugin it appears to do some sort of non-destructive bevel, I haven't tried it myself though so I'm not sure how good it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKTWn6aklLJ6jMk 80.lv/articles/ndm-phoenix-non-destructive-tools-for-maya/

I've been using these two Scripts, the unWrapper and the uvMapper. So far everything is working really well thanks to these tutorial videos. But I do have one question! Something I just can't seem to figure out? When I grabbed a bunch of UV shells and scale them all down to a different pixel density, there is a lot of space around each shell, because when I scale them all together they each scale individually. So then I want to lay them all out nice and tight again. But when I click on unwrap or layout UVs the shells jump back to the Texel density they were just before I scale them. How do I get it to ignore the older scale, I want them to just pocket nice and tight but with the new scale life just adjusted to

This can be accomplished in both tools by turning off the checkbox for flip spin scale, or spin scale. This will prevent the shells from scaling to even texel density during layout and will also prevent them from rotating if you'd like to rotate shells manually as a final step.

This is brilliant and I can report this tool definitely works with Maya LT 2018 Mac (@Malcolm341, you might want to note LT compatibility in your notes on the store. Some of us poors/ one-man-band indie studios can't afford the full blown Maya... ) I bought the entire bundle, haven't really had a chance to try the other tools but this is great, really a useful speed up in the workflow that can help you quickly iterate thru UV mapping options. UV mapping is (almost) fun now...

Thanks for your nice review and suggestion. All tools have been tested on LT and Student, the only tool I know of that has partial incompatibility on LT is the Checker Map Toolbox, it can't generate the checker textures in LT, but there's a download link when you click the button if you want those ones. I've updated the store pages to include LT support. I looked at your facebook page, I was confused a bit by what pixels is. Is it a game you've created to put together model airplane kits, if so what a great idea very cool!

@@malcolm341 Thanks for the info on LT compatibility -- like I said, I haven't fully checked out the rest of the scripts, but most of them look really useful. Re "Aircraft in Pixels" -- yes, that's my side hustle it is indeed a virtual model airplane kit, still a WIP, if you are curious there is more info here: bomonroe.itch.io/

Thanks a lot. unWrapper has easy UVs, 3D cut and sew custom workflow and produces faster results with less control. uvMapper has planer map with texel density, gridify UVs, copy/paste texel density and a bunch of other standard tool shortcuts which produce slower results, but with more control. I personally use uvMapper for most of my work because I'm used to mapping each part of the model manually and gridifying and stitching as much as I can, but I also use both tools in combination for certain projects. The main difference between the two tools is workflow preference, unWrapper faster less control, uvMapper slower more control.

i have problem sir, I use two monitors and every time I open this tool the window get stretched and i need to delete windowsprefs after it works fine again after 2,3 times opening Maya the tool window is getting stretched .... it happens very ofen and i need delete my windows prefs file every 2 days... an help would be great...!

I've had this reported by one other guy, I think the problem is you have two different monitors running two different resolutions, but I can't confirm that since my monitors are both the same make and model and I can't reproduce the problem. I've tried fixing this, but I can't find a solution in the code reset the window once it's broken. The best solution I've found is to unlock the window so you can scale it each time it breaks. -Right click the shelf button that loads the toolbox in Maya and choose edit. -Search the file for //Yes texture editor TextureViewWindow; window -parent "polyTexturePlacementPanel1Window" -title $m341_uvMapperVersion -toolbox true -sizeable false -resizeToFitChildren true maUVMapper; -change -sizeable false to -sizeable true then close the shelf button editor and load the tool again by clicking the shelf button, this will unlock the toolbox, resize it however you want and see if the changes stick around.

@@dusanjevtic4622 I'm not aware of anything in Max sorry, I think you can do all the same stuff in Max through the default inteface except maybe not the 3D cut and sew stuff, but I'm no expert I haven't used Max since 2007. I would imagine someone who knows Max script could come up with a similar UI that could perform the same actions.

Thanks a lot, they work on Maya LT 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. The tools all work, but there's a couple limitations in LT. The custom checker map tool works fine, but you can't generate the checker textures procedurally because LT doesn't have the nodes I used to make them, I have a link in the tool though to just download the texture textures though. I think that's the only thing that will different on LT, besides that everything should work fine, let me know if you run into any LT specific problems.

Hi, I purchased your Fastest UV Mapping, can I make the script work with Nightdhade to replace UVToolkit? how to disable multyColor UV to see the turned faces?

Give this a try, launch NightShade and then launch my tool and then just minimize UV Toolkit and Maya UV editor, see if that works. There isn't a button to switch off multi-colour shells in my tool currently, but that could be added. When you click unwrap though everything will get flipped currently to not be red. To turn off the shell colour you would need to click the shaded button in the Maya UV editor. If you're a fan of NightShade, but don't like how it takes over the Maya UV editor check out my other script which is similar to NightShade and is compatible with the default May UV editor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2qcnqqDl5J5aLc

Howdy Malcom, I'm a newbie in Maya and I am having problems already. I've loaded the tool as you've described but when I click on cut & sew and then double click to select, nothing happens. I must have one thing I'm not doing correctly as everyone else here has said how helpful this tool is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark, thanks for your purchase. Depending on the shape of your model the double click will cut the UV seam along the edge loop, if it's something like a cube it will just cut that edge, visually not much will happen when double clicking, but you should see the edge turn white in the 3D viewport to indicate you've created a UV seam, is that not working? Are you using Maya 2022?

I’m actually when I try to unfold using unwrap it is crashing I thought it was my geo and I had an open vertex so I fixed and I unfold uv it worked so I tried unwrap again to test and crashed. I’m trying unwrap a simple box and works fine I think my geo has problem and can’t find. Besides that this script is pretty cool

No unfortunately Maya 2016 is too old and doesn't have the updates required for the scripts to work. They only work in Maya 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020.

It's a shelf file, just open Maya and click the gear icon to the left of the shelf, then choose load and browse to the file you downloaded. That will add a shelf to Maya with the button you're looking for. There's detailed instructions included in the .zip file for how to do it.
