Paul, such and unbelievably good job and you're such a pro! Your enthusiasm is contagious man :D This model has been of particular interest to me because I once owned a 8" solid tire Splach Twin which I really enjoyed. I always thought that they needed to make an updated version of the Twin with 9"-10" pneumatic tires, (modern) hinged stem latch with non-telescoping handlebars, disc brakes, LED's instead of acrylic tubes and updated controls / display. Well, my goodness, we got all of that but they went from 48 to 52V system, 748Wh to 811Wh battery, 600W to 800W nominal motors, 20A to 23A controllers, 28 to 35ish mph, improved fenders and not just disc brakes but HDB's! Of course there's no free lunch and it went from 53.6lbs to 65.4lbs. Now I realize that it's not a "Twin V2" but for a person who's always wanted a modernized Splach Twin, this has been the closest model to that idea since the Twin was introduced, especially if you go with the 9" wheel option which is 2-3lbs lighter. I think it's a hit!

Thank you so much! Your detailed knowledge of scooters and their model-history always blows me away. Here’s something strange though. The version I tested has tubeless tires, but they’re switching to tubes soon. I had to go back at the last minute and chop out the four times I mentioned the tubeless tires. I even did a leak test where I jabbed it with a nail and checked for leaks, but we took that out too since it’s not relevant. -Paul

At this time, I think there are three video on KZbin for this model but you're the only person so far to decipher the mode switching steps. That's not how Splach have traditionally stepped their modes so I'm hoping this is an initial batch issue "thing." Normally the eco/turbo button provides 3 different output levels in eco and 3 different output levels in turbo. Thank you for the ESG certified weight testing as well, only one other channel is currently verifying weights. With regards to range, I think this is one of those scooters that takes a big hit due to its top end. I suspect that if you rode it around at Ninebot Max G2 speeds, we'd probably see 30+ miles. That would make for a fun video... like a shorter version of your VX4 video. That was a blast to watch.
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide5 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! I gave them feedback on the modes and they’re looking into it. I love weighing the scooters and I’m so surprised no one else does it. We’ve been using the same scale for all scooters for 4 years now and I’ll occasionally go back and plop something like the Wolf King GT on there to make sure nothing has changed. It always matches the old measurements, so calibration is staying locked in. The King GT was one that sticks in my head because the spec weight and actual were about 10lbs apart! -Paul

I love how you guys make reviews on e-scoots, because you really deep dive into it. But I hope soon, you will make a video about e-scoot maintenance. Like how many miles your tires could last. How many charging cycles can the battery handles before it goes bad. Rusting and how to prevent it. Stuff like that. I saw a video of a guy's Segway GT2 snapping in half just about 3000Kms (1864 miles). Thank you guys. We appreciate videos you make!
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide4 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for the suggestion. We’ll keep thinking about how we could do something like this. I talk about the difficulty of putting thousands of miles on hundreds of scooters in our reliability video. Thanks for the heads up on the GT2 video. I need to go check that out. I’ve always considered Segway scooters among the best engineered scooters out there, so I’m curious if this was a one-off mistake in building, rider abuse, or a systematic problem. Segway recently issued a voluntary recall on a small batch of P100S scooters. So they seem to be on top of it when there’s a manufacturing problem. -Paul kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqLInZ-af86fic0si=JfW5d6hbsynfuoY0

@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide2 күн бұрын
Definitely watch our review of the GX1 and GX2 when you get a chance as well as our long term review. Performance is extremely similar. The Thunder 10 is 10 lbs lighter, probably due to the suspension design, and the GX2 has 20% more range in our range test (24.7 miles vs 20.2 both in sport mode). It's a tough call. Has everything that you would want if you are a commuter or a recreational rider. And for the money.... great value. But like some of the entry level scooters, there is no way to upgrade the suspension.
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide5 күн бұрын
True that you can’t upgrade it, but the good news is that the stock suspension works well. I’m a big fan of rubber suspension because it acts as a spring and also provides damping for the suspension on top of being very progressive (gets harder the further you squish it), so it’s self adjusting for heavier riders. -Paul

Are those Converse canvas basketball high tops? I've been riding e-scooters since the beginning of the pandemic and I still haven't decided if it is best use low top shoes for flexibility like when e-skateboards or high tops like I use for E-unicyle for leverage (and ankle padding).
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide5 күн бұрын
I really prefer high tops when riding scooters. When I worked for Lime and Skip in their scooter warehouses, my ankles would get destroyed in low tops. These are Converse slip-on high tops. Really, I should be wearing lace-up leather shoes when riding , to protect my ankle bones from scraping on the ground if I fall off at speed. That’s a rule I follow when riding motorcycles. -Paul

@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide5 күн бұрын
I agree. IP54 was standard or even considered good a couple years ago, but I wouldn’t plan to ride in the rain with IP54. The further along we get with electric scooters, the more conservative I get about what you could ride every day in the rain without a problem. I’ve ridden motorcycles in the rain without fear for 30 years. For scooters, I would want IPX6 or higher before planned rain riding. Even then there’s risk since no one covers water damage under warranty. -Paul

You should be careful about suggesting using higher current chargers. The battery packs are rated for certain charge rates. If you exceed these you can cause a failure or worse fire. Likely the pack can handle 4 amps, however this really needs to be researched prior to getting another charger. Again this is an important safety issue. Also for scooters that are UL rated, they are rated as an entire system, including the charger charge rate.
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide5 күн бұрын
You’d be surprised how fast you have to charge to get into the danger zone. Unless you’re approaching 2 hours you’re not shortening the life of the cells. They’re discharging faster than that while riding. It’s a good point that some connectors aren’t engineered for more current. Presumably a fast charger wouldn’t be offered for sale with more current than its connector can handle, but I suppose that’s possible. -Paul

Ya its not the batteries fault when you disregard basic limitations out of ignorance.
@martinbrenner2573Күн бұрын
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Scooters are now UL certified as an entire system. This includes the charging amperage. I am not sure that the discharge current capacity exactly equates to the charge current limitations. That would depend upon the BMS and the cell design and how they interact. In any case when messing with LiIon battery systems you are literally "playing with fire". Sure you may be fine, however, the impact of a mistake can be catastrophic. Is it really worth it?

It’s amazing how much better scooters get every year. Segway doesn’t always lead on speed per dollar or range per dollar, but often wins on tech per dollar and reliability per dollar. They have been investing a lot into those two areas. You can really see it in the ZT3 Pro. They kept it a little more reserved on the Ninebot MAX G2, but I feel like that’s because the Max G30 did so well and they didn’t want to depart too much from a formula which was already winning. -Paul
