look at Top 6 : China + Indonesia has both total GDP ( nominal and PPP).higher than Vietnam + Bangladesh + Phillipines + India , Population of China + Indonesia is around 1.68 Billion , while India + Vietnam+ Phillipines + Bangadesh has over 1?72 Billions . Comboned China and Indonesia GDP nom is USD 20 Trillions ( PPP around USD 40 Trillions) with average growth between 4.5 to 5 %. While the 4 counrries have only less than USD -6 Trilions for GDP nominal ( PPP only hovering at usd 17 Trilions ) with growth of 5.5 to 6.8 %.

China + Indonesia vs India + Vietnam + Philippines and Bangladesh with equal number of population has a GDP PPP of nearly USD 40 Trillions vs USD 20 Trillions. China + Indonesia has a growth rate of 4.5 to 5 %, current account surplus ( export more than import ), inflation less than 3 %. On the other hand just India and the 3 countries have , current account deficits, inflation above 3 % with a growth rate above 5.5 %. Economic policy is the individual country choice. So it is no wonder that Indonesia chooses China as the preferred partner as well as Japan and South Korea within the RCEP frame work ( India refuses to join after being invited by ASEAN ) . The result is self evident in the case for Indonesia.
