Great question! No, when I’m doing FPP I don’t worry about grain line. The paper, the batting and batting all act as interfacing to prevent stretching no matter the grain.

I'm doing my first kit, the mini orchid. What I've done is copy the fabric cut guides, then enlarge the scan using Photoshop and print it out "life size". Then, using a light box, I trace the fabric over the life size paper and cut that. I'm using the binder and sheet protector method. This is a mini quilt, so might not work with a larger one. I had an old light box in the basement and any photo software program would allow you to 'Right size" the cutting guide. I only use the scanner and enlargement method for the larger pieces of fabric. So far so good. Is there a legit kit facebook grouop?

How do you starch your fabric? Completely saturate it and let it dry like I have seen on other sites? How do you keep track of which color it is?
@CrankyKangaroo
@CrankyKangaroo Жыл бұрын
I put my fabric on a clothesline, and leave the labels on. I use concentrated starch, and put it in a weed sprayer! I do saturate, not to the point of dripping, but to full coverage. Then allow it to dry on the line.

@@CrankyKangaroo thanks for the heads up! I looked again and finally found it. I can see why you don't bother with the add a quarter.... the pinning you do keeps you accurate. I'm hoping Legit Kits will be in Houston in Nov. so I can pick up a kit. 🤞

My ADHD mind is trying to figure this out. So the tabs are the fabric color codes . I'm thinking I need to get a kit and follow these with my kit with me. And how do you tear all the paper when you sew?
@CrankyKangaroo

sorry for the late reply! The paper tears easily because you use a short stitch in FPP. It's actually quite satisfying to tear it off! The tabs are the fabric color codes, yes!

Which starch do you like to use …

I love the starch in an aerosol can (it's available at my local Dollar Store or Menard's), but I have switched to using a concentrated starch that I order from Amazon. I put it in a weed sprayer, and put all the fabric on the clothes line. I spray them down, then let them air dry. @Crankykangaroo, I just came back to see if there was a part 3 yet. I had 2 questions about the process - 1.) approximately how long is your piece of elastic for a full quilt (not a mini), and 2.) you mentioned that you go through the book twice. What do you do then? Cut by block? TIA
@CrankyKangaroo
@CrankyKangaroo 2 жыл бұрын
Part three is in editing!! I don’t measure my elastic, but at least a yard. Enough to go though all the holes and have about a 3-4” circle, kinda like a 3 ring binder that’s 4” wide, if that makes sense. When I cut all of the pieces for place #1, I refile the pieces according to place #2, then go back through the book and cut all of those pieces. 👍🏻
