As I’m assembling my book: 1) Punch the hole in the short end of the page OPPOSITE the page numbers. That lets you put the sticker on the right page edge. 2) If you use a blank area of each fabric (as suggested on the Cut Guide) and write the color code with a frixion pen or white pencil, you won’t mix up the two colors on a page. No need to photocopy pages and make the book thicker. And if you drop a piece, it has the Color Code on the fabric. 3) stagger the Color Code stickers on the page edge to make it easier to find them

When I first saw this video, I was like "nah that's too much work I don't need to make a book". But you made it look like it was fun to make so I said what the heck. Now I can't even imagine how you would do it without making the book! Great video!!!

I love the book method so much! I take my book with me whenever I need to work on the go!

Hi Love your video!! I was wondering how you store your left over fabric after you cut all your pieces?
@LQ3273 ай бұрын
I enjoyed this video so much. Have you done a video about how you store left over fabric when u have finished?
@sheriwillingham687511 ай бұрын
It would be better if you demonstrate in the video if you would just show what u youre talking about. 😊

Are you talking of a specific section or technique? Happy to share more, just not sure which part you mean!

Hi! I am really new at this. I know you said you dont use the cutting guide, but could it be used to actually cut out the foundation pieces
@CrankyKangaroo Жыл бұрын
No, not really. It’s not to scale, so you cannot use it to determine size of fabric pieces to cut. Some people, though, make a copy of their pattern pieces for this purpose.

When do you starch the fabric and is it iron on starch?
@CrankyKangaroo2 жыл бұрын
The starch makes it easier to handle and sew the fabric, without puckering. It also eliminates any shrinking. I use a spray starch, and allow to air dry on the clothesline and I’ve found there’s no ironing needed.

Thank you so much for posting this tutorial. I’ll be honest, I knew that this would be a daunting project to make. But after seeing how you organize it in advance of starting the process, I’m much more confident in taking this on. Thanks, again! T 19:08

My first kit is Little Coffee but I'm moving so I'm trying to get organized but haven't started cutting material. Do you mind telling us what the placement is in inches for the 5 holes? Thank you!
@CrankyKangaroo2 жыл бұрын
Little Coffee was my first Legit Kit! You’ll have so much fun! Honestly, I just found a place on my hole punch that I can line the edge of the paper on and that’s where I punch every time. They’re basically evenly spaced, about 1 1/4” apart probably!

Thanks for sharing your book method of organizing fabrics. I’m tempted to keep the color code on the fabric in case I misplace it or drop it or something. Pulling that sticker off makes me a little nervous. I want some insurance that I don’t lose my place! Maybe I will relax about t with more experience.
@CrankyKangaroo2 жыл бұрын
You could absolutely leave the stickers on the fabric, and make other labels for the tabs! Or draw the name in the corner of the fabric!

This was great. Thanks. What kit would you recommend for a beginner?
@CrankyKangaroo2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! The Ursa Major and minor (in this video) is a great one for a beginner. Mo the Cat, The Raven, and Everest are also great ones! And there’s a few mini quilts, too!

Thank you for all the tips before I start my first quilt! Do you have any more tips on how to "bind" your book with elastic? I'm confused as to how to attach the elastic exactly. Thank you :)

It’s just like lacing up your shoes! Criss cross through the holes, then tie a knot in the end!

How do you keep the pages from ripping at the elastic holes?
@CrankyKangaroo2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had an issue with that! There’s five holes instead of three, so I think that helps to spread it out a little and not stress one hole in particular
