I watched this video before installing my single disc clutch and thought, "the plastic tool will probably work for me since I don't have a twin disc..." WRONG. I gave up after 3 failed attempts, knowing exactly what the problem was, thanks to this video... Needless to say, the steel alignment tool will be here tomorrow and I will finally get my transmission installed. Don't be like me, order the steel alignment tool ahead of time!

That struggle is real! Those cheap ass plastic tools are useless... good call on going with the steel version. Keep us posted of the "night and day" difference. Thanks for the comment!

I installed my clutch tonight and would swear by the metal alignment tool. It is so much more precision than the plastic. Took a couple tries to align the trans, but it sucked right up. That slave cylinder spring makes no resistance when assembling. Tomorrow I finish the job.

Yeah, totally agree. The steel tool should be mandatory, shouldn't it? Great to hear you got the clutch in... you're gonna love it!

what torx socket does that pressure plate use does it come with the torx socket
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Good question. It's not a TORX head. It's actually a 12 point head, which a standard 12 point socket will fit on. I think it's a 3/8"? I don't remember.

Hi Monty, I have been looking at this install of the TKX and I have a question/observation. Looking at your calculation sheet I'm wondering if the TKX input shaft is making enough contact with the pilot bearing? Here goes. The TKX input shaft length is 7.21". This dimension is from Tremec. The bell housing width you are using is 6.325". You said you used a .250" spacer to get the HTB clearance. This makes the the overall dimension of the bell housing 6.575". The remaining stick out of the input shaft then is .635" measured on the front plane of the bell house. The protrusion of the crankshaft is .70" but the pilot bearing is seated at least that deep back into the crankshaft negating the .70". Are you sure the nose of the input shaft is at least 1/2 inside the pilot bearing? What am I not seeing?
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Good job on the analysis. The difference is the bearing is flush to the crank, it is not pushed all the way back into the recess. So, the shaft still contacts the inner race of the bearing. Yea, I triple checked that one. Ha, ha... thanks for the comment!
@Danno74Z
@Danno74Z Жыл бұрын
@@FastMonty Got it. I did not know the pilot bearing could be left unseated. I always thought they had to be driven in all the way :). If you were to guess would you say the pilot bearing is in 2/3rd of its length? I might be running into the same issue. For the Chevy, I might use Allstar-ALL26114 Long Pilot Bushing with Roller Bearing. How did the car show go and auto cross? Again thanks.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
@@Danno74Z It' mounted flush, so it's fully engaged. But, you could keep pounding on it to install even deeper. Obviously not recommended. All is good! Thanks for watching!

I had the same issue with the alignment tool. I think Ram should not send that plastic junk. I puller my TKX out 5 times messing with that thing. Like you said it was a total waste of time.

Thanks Brother... so, the best patch panel is from an original fender, as replacement pieces just aren't the same gauge as original. If you can't find original steel, I got most of my panels from @Original Parts Group Good luck!

Hello I'm gonna bug you again OK I got the SST heavy cast stock looking pontiac bellhousing I'm using ram's manual throw out Bearing No hydraulics. your measurements To see if everything is gonna fit in the bell housing do you think using a manual throw out bearing Using stock clutch fork it's not as tall as a hydraulic bearing is. it's gonna fit without using that spacer you had to use Because I'm worried about the transmission shaft will not seat correctly in the pilot bearing I'm asking this cause I don't want to order everything and then realize I have to use that Spacer cause I don't want to. I like your channel cause you do everything yourself And you show it . Thanks for your awesome advice again I do appreciate it
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 2 жыл бұрын
@@genoleblanc5008 It "should" fit fine. But, that's why you should measure it. :) Not all clutches are created equal, so that's the big variable. Still plenty of pilot shaft engagement with the spacer plate, and no changes down stream from that point. Have fun!

Mike, with the spacer plate (which if I understand correctly is new to the setup), does that move your transmission away from the engine by the plate's thickness? Did that have any effect on your driveshaft length and trans mount? You didn't mention it, so I guess you had enough wiggle room (or I just don't understand).
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 3 жыл бұрын
Good question Griff... yes, it moved the transmission backward, and yes, I had wiggle room. :) That was one of my concerns, but luckily it worked out! Thanks again.

I never use the junk plastic clutch installation tool cause they are too sloppy. For my Muncie I use an old 4th gear (input shaft). I also use the same input shaft with a 1/4” plate to hammer in my crank bushing after it comes out of the freezer.
