We should separate the message from the speaker. Despite recent revelations about Bill, this show was still the universal show of peace and humanity. There was no black here. There was no white. There was only people It showed that good and bad people can come from ALL walks of life. And even bad guys can reform and turn their life around. This show dealt with some pretty hardcore shit, like STDs and drugs in a frank and no nonsense manner So while I am severely disappointed with Bill himself, there is still worthwhile messages that this show can offer us even today. And it shouldnt be disregarded just because the creator was actually a piece of shit.

Cosby played Fat Albert, Bill, Mushmouth, Mudfoot, and The Brown Hornet. Filmation executive producer Lou Scheimer played Dumb Donald and Stinger. Eric Suter played Rudy. Jan Crawford (female) played Russell and Bucky. Gerald Edwards played Weird Harold. Lou Scheimer's wife Jay Scheimer played Tweeter Bell and Miss Wucher and Miss Breyfogle the teachers.

And don't forget that Bill really has a younger brother named Russell, who he used to talk about in his stand-up shows, and even mentioned in the title of one of his late '60s comedy albums. (The extended sketch on side two is all about young Bill and Russell trying to avoid their father's wrath as they stay up past bedtime, arguing and making noise in the middle of the night, it's hilarious.) All of these characters were based on real people, Cosby's childhood pals from Philadelphia.

A criminally underappreciated studio imo. Their biggest problem was the lack of successful in-house-developed properties, all their best shows were based on other people's works. Fat Albert is a case in point. Otoh they had a very distinctive "house style", you could always tell a Filmation production from anyone else's, and they did have some very clever artistic tricks up their sleeves that made their shows look more interesting than the small budgets gave them any right to.

Mary Jo Catlett, AKA, "Pearl (housekeeperand Miss Puff on SpongeBob) is still alive (2024). While not an original cast member, is certainly worthwhile mentioning.

As much as anything, this show had - and still has - an impact on how I see diversity as anything. We didn’t see the gang as anything but cool kids we wanted to hang with.

Bro, I thought I was the only one 😂 For Christmas 2004, when the live-action movie came out, I got the DVD box set of the show as a gift. I used to be creeped out of the camera zoom when he goes “It’s FAAAT Albert!” and then the finger point 😖 yikes
