Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids was the first cartoon series that talked about gang violence. Usually Fat Albert's episodes would end on a positive note, but this one ended in tragedy. A young Hispanic kid, who has a dream of becoming a comedian, has his life cut short trying to save his older brother who's a gang leader. Whether you like Bill Cosby, or you despise him, he crafted that episode.

I don't even believe Cosby really did what those women are accusing him of. Just when he (a black man) was on the verge of buying NBC, all of a sudden the accusations pop up..... Bill Cosby was one of the biggest stars during the 80s. Why would he need to resort to drugging women for some play? He could've paid a woman for that even though I doubt he would even do that....How are all these women gonna accuse someone of rape 30 years later? I smell bs.

A couple of remarks: 1) Cosby may have been a sexual predator but that doesn't mean he wasn't sincere in his concern and advocacy for children, and it definitely doesn't diminish the value of his large body of creative work; 2) I don't think any other cartoon studio could have done an episode like this, Filmation gets a bad rap from pop culture influencers but they could and did produce outstanding cartoons and thanks to Lou Scheimer they often had a moral conscience that other cartoon studios wouldn't go anywhere near (the problem was, they just weren't as *fun* to watch); 3) I was 10 when this episode came out, in the middle of the "Very Special Episode" pandemic on TV, and honestly it could be very disorienting if you tuned in to your favorite cartoon or sitcom expecting a comedy episode and you got a heavy dramatic episode instead. And those were *everywhere* in the '80s. I think a lot of my fellow GenXers were scarred in some way by these unexpected intrusions. I guess I watch this and experience it in a way that younger KZbin viewers can't possibly understand because they weren't there; as an adult I can admire the Fernando episode but the little '80s kid inside of me still feels vaguely violated.

Teaching, or trying to teach, kids that are also in thsst situation that they can try to make it. It was in hopes to not have what Chicago is today. But you could also see how so,e people's lives were just worst than their own. So it had more than one message. See what happens here. See t hst there are good people trying. And even when good people try, so,times it's not enough. So try helping them when you can. Also understand, they are human. Some people just can't be helped. Or won't take it. But go back to seeing how they start off. Can you blame them sometimes? Educate everyone, and maybe everyone will give helping hands to eliminate the bad situations. America had a race problem LONG before the recent 2000s

Actually, a pretty cool example of tackling gun violence in a modern cartoon is 'OK K.O.!, Let's Be Heroes,' where they had an episode on gun violence, though they didn't explicitly use guns, instead opting for something that fit better into the cartoony superhero canon. The episode is called 'Let's Not Be Skeletons.'
