In case anyone was wondering Eric Hites died earlier this year at the age of 49. I could not find a cause of death but I would put my money on his obesity. He never completed the journey and never wrote a book about his experiences. He did write a book about Ramen though. RIP big boy.

I didn't see any cause of death but in one article they said he and his wife had recently celebrated a 16 year anniversary so guess he at least got to spend his last years with her.

Did he even actually make the trip across country? That is a question we all want to know. I’m thinking he is a fraud because no one at that weight is going to survive that long of a trip on a bike. I guarantee unless I’m wrong he had of quit in the process of this. I use to ride bikes a lot in my day, and the most I’ve ridden in one day was 60 miles and that takes a lot out of you which is why I doubt he did the trip. At the time I did the trip I was a little over 100.0 pounds. He is 500.0 pounds, and you expect me to believe he survived that kind of trip? You can't bike 5 miles in a day? It's not running, you can just gently push yourself with your feet that much. He told me people he was crossing the country, needed multiple bike repairs, never made it out of one city.
