As an engineer and programmer, I have to say it seems extremely unlikely to me that this product does not descend from the DJI FPV system in some way. It seems odd to me that the companies involved are trying to mask that in any way. All of the settings are the same. The "low power mode can't record" message is the same. These aren't things that would be universal to an HD system developed by two different entities.

Is this is the same crap Fat Shark did with Byte Frost and then the Shark Byte system, claiming they were developing an HD FPV system when they were really just licensing someone else's technology? Don't get me wrong, I own Fat Shark goggles, and think they make great products (albeit a bit overpriced), but sometimes they are a bit disingenuous. The only other FPV vendor on the market who I can think of that's been "involved in FPV for long time" and was working on an HD FPV system is Immersion RC but they've merged with Orca (a Fat Shark competitor) so I doubt it's them. So yes, it must just be DJI with canvas mode. 😂

I have zero knowledge about the DJI/Fat Shark situation but I've had quite a bit of experience with Chinese manufacturing and licensing of various technologies in the Pro AV realm. This is a common play that a lot of smaller companies do to stay competitive. They license technology that is at least near identical to their competition, rebrand it, recolor the hardware and have changes made to the UI either to differentiate the look or to emphasize certain functionality. This is usually in conjunction with other products which the company is trying to tie together and differentiate themselves through their overall offering and not just with one product. Often times, companies will do this with Chinese companies who are licensing to multiple competitors as well as chasing market share with their own brand. In many cases, they're not as successful chasing market share directly as they are with licensing through already-established companies so they do this as a form of diversification. My absolute guess is that DJI has seen some success with Caddx and are taking it to the next level with a more substantial play with Fat Shark. They'd rather have someone else handle all the marketing and support for such a niche market and just continue being a supplier to other companies who will shoulder all that for them. My other guess is that Fat Shark is desperate to stay relevant and doesn't have the chops to build their own system. They can't admit this because they'd lose credibility to the market after the way the last few years have played out, but there's no way this isn't coming out at some point (if true) so it's a weird play. It would probably still work, though, especially if DJI steps into more of a supplier role. There are plenty of folks who just want to not have DJI branding on their gear to pretend that all this stuff we're playing with isn't made in China. Again, that's all complete guessing on my part based on how I've seen this play out in other electronics markets. I just hope the thinner VTX will be compatible with my V2 DJI goggles lol

It's funny how many people who previously said "I'll never put DJI in my quad!" are now fawning pathetically in the comments about how impressed they are with FatShark and how they can't wait to buy this system - when it is absolutely, clearly, *obviously* the DJI system in a different goggle with a modified GUI and new VTX design. The lies in this video are blatant.

Absolutely true, and I think highly likely. But big as DJI is, they aren't T-Mobile or Lockeed Martin or the USAF. DRL has huge money and resources and technology available to them, and as a production company is probably more invested in HD than anyone. Remember they were demo-ing HD FPV drones flown remotely over 5G a year ago. They already have that technology and this is far simpler. Fatshark and DRL have partnered since like 2017. It makes at least as much sense that DRL developed this then saw a chance for wider monetization of it. You'd have to think that whatever value such a technology has to DRL alone would be chump change to DRLs major sponsors. If they felt there was some additional ROI to be realized by putting this tech out in the open market then we would end up exactly where we are. Just a thought. But I am still more inclined to believe Greg is playing semantics and its just DJI in some form or another.

So far we developed new goggles, that have same DJI firmware and fully compatibly with old units, in the future we will offer both software and hardware improvements (e.g. new units with better features). It will be interesting to see what the finished product is like. But the existence of this makes DJIs strategy of breaking compatibility with new releases more of a liability. It was never good from a consumer point of view, but now it's an incentive to switch platforms if this new product is any good. I own three DJI AUs. If DJI releases V3 and it's not compatible with V2, there's no benefit to me to staying with DJI (unless I keep buying V1 AUs or Vistas). If DJI were to release V3 and it were backwards compatible I wouldn't have to refit my existing systems, which would make sticking with DJI much cheaper.

Let me see if I have all this correct. 1. Fatshark is slowly becoming irrelevant due to the fact digital seems to be the way forward and analog has peaked 2. Fatshark kicked HDZero out of bed, presumably (from Greg's own mouth) the link and picture quality just wasn't the same 3. Fatshark has no where else to go 4. DJI is trying to sell their leftovers to the FPV market but needs a partner who can get around the FCC 5. Fatshark thinks, fuck it, free real estate, sells soul to DJI 6. Fatshark realizes they can't just release the Dominator Vista, so they implement canvas mode as sleight of hand to keep everyone happy (look, nothing to see here!) .... right? So 1 of 3 things happened. Either A) Greg slipped in the fucking shower and dreamed up the design for the FPV equivalent of the flux capacitor or B) Fatshark somehow reverse engineered proprietary DJI tech and get ready for the lawsuits or C) a deal was made by two companies looking to make more money. Which one seems more likely?

Yup. DJI has been working on their Occusync system since at least 2014 when their drones started being released with it. It has progressively become lower latency until with DJI FPV - essentially Occusync 3.0 - it finally got low enough for FPV pilots. Now Fatshark wants us to believe that they just somehow developed a system that performs *nearly identically* to DJI's one, in something like a year? Oh please...

Thanks for the video. I can’t help but feel that this the next evolution of DJI’s system. I love the form factor. But I’m not ordering anything until a few things happen. First, I need to see a full, finished product. Next, they need to be honest with the community about their system. I don’t care one way or the other honestly because, for me, the quality of the signal is what I care about most. Lastly, if this is DJI rebranded, then don’t make me have to abandon what I’ve spent the past year building. I jumped into digital because I had stopped flying FPV due to my lack of trust in the available analog systems. So when DJI came out, I was ready to go all in and not have to scrap an entire fleet of aircraft to do so. Innovation is amazing and our hobby needs all of the innovation we can get in order to keep growing. FPV is complex and requires knowledge in a lot of different areas. That’s one of the draws for me. But, we have to start asking for accountability both from ourselves and the manufacturers of the components we buy. Honesty is a must. Of course they are a company and they exist to make money. No problem there. Just don’t be deceptive. Good products sell even if the manufacturer is shady. DJI is the perfect example. American based companies obviously have to adapt or be left behind. Let’s not leave behind our values though. Without our money, these products don’t exist. There is a certain amount of power in that. If used wisely, we can help shape the future of our hobby.

There is no way this isn't DJI tech as soon as I saw the menu I was convinced. Same specs, same menu options, 25/50 mbps bandwidth options, variable latency, the exact same latency specs (23/40ms), same air unit price, exact same camera setting options, RP-SMA ant connectors, similar OSD warnings, NO HDMI IN!!!! The avatar thing, the shifty answers about it being a "completely separate" system. I bet the only thing different about this system is that it wont work on existing DJI/Caddx Air units. The OLED screen is probably a good upgrade for image contrast, but I doubt the 1080 resolution even adds considerable image quality due to it being bitrate limited and will only add more latency. I bet they didn't even set up the OSD to be recorded in DVR because DJI doesn't do that. I think this is a ruse by DJI to avoid severe backlash when they release a new V3 goggle without backwards compatibility. I use and love the DJI system, but the company and their shennanigans suck. Not being able to use HDMI in so you can use a simulator was a calculated move by DJI to make you buy their simulator. Locking out root hacks with a non downgradable update, locking out 3rd party cameras. Lets be honest here, they are the Apple of the sky. Proprietary and non customizable, they'll kill features just because they don't want you to have them rather than provide the best user experience, just to protect perceived future profits. I was really hopeful for this release, but this branding of taking back digital fpv to the common pilot, while being blatantly disingenuous about the actual origins is shady AF. Que v1 air units / vistas no longer being available so we're forced to upgrade to continue flying. If that's the case I'd rather give HD0 my money and see what they develop.

The system has variable latency same as DJI, and there are so many other similarities to how DJI works, that I think we can assume the goggles transmit as well as receive. Otherwise it would be a broadcast-based system like HDZero with constant latency. The system is not compatible with any other camera/vtx/goggle. I asked about 3rd party making compatible equipment and Greg did not rule it out, but it will not be compatible with any currently existing system.

Wow! This is really exciting! I had written off Fatshark, as even though my HDO2s had a nice image, they just had too many compromises and felt stuck in the past compared to goggles like the Sky04X or Orqa. These goggles having a proper OSD shows Fatshark is at least interested in catching up and some of those features seem really cool. I still feel like they have some way to go before I will go back though. Aside from the DVR there were no updates (or even a way of updating AFAIK) for the HDO2s and Fatshark just seemed to treat these goggles as a completely finished product at release, whereas everyone else publishes regular firmware updates (look at the iterations of the Sky04X firmware or even HDzero and the open source announcement). Even when Skyzone added small FOV mode and OSD warning for low battery there was no reaction from Fatshark. There still wasn't even an actual OSD, which just seemed like a base feature every goggle should have had from about the Dominator HDs. And this is really the problem. Even if the system is amazing, I want to see a company that is engaged with the community and continues to drive their product after release, and I just don't feel like that is something Fatshark (or even DJI if that coincidence is correlation - no canvas mode on native DJI still?) have ever done well. I mean, if they were listening these would have had a way of displaying analogue. I get some people are all in on digital and more power to them, but heaps of people still fly whoops and analogue and just assuming we will keep/buy multiple goggles is a bit dismissive. So no pre-order for me, but I do hope this product is the one that changes my mind and I will be watching with interest from the sidelines.

I just invested in DJI, so I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon. For what it's worth, I am quite impressed with the image quality. The variable latency doesn't scare me either, not even for my high rate freestyle. But to truly rival DJI this needs to have the same or similar range. We also don't know how reliable the system is. Only time will tell for that. I love the form factor over DJI, for sure. I only have one complaint, and that is this could've been the one goggle to rule them all. Having an analog module bay would be great. I still fly analog for racing (nothing against HDZero, I just haven't made the jump yet.) Though I do think that could be unnecessary if this had a fixed latency mode. Perhaps, it's as simple as not requiring retransmissions? I'm not entirely sure how that works, though. If they did, they would win on two fronts: against DJI for freestyle and against HDZero for racing. Hopefully one day they will add that option. Going back to packing only one goggle will be great and I would definitely switch to this if they did.

I think we need to realize, to keep it small and compact, like analog goggles are, they can't necessarily put the analog tech and the digital tech inside a small, compact goggle. There's more to analog than the than the analog module bay. There probably just isn't room. Plus, no one wants dead technology in their new goggles! 🥴 Most of all, we need get a grip on the FACT that eventually analog will completely die. Completely stop being made! It will happen. It always does. Do we use analog cell phones? Most of us don't even realize there were analog cell phones years ago. I owned a few. Do we still use 8-tracks, cassettes, VHS, CD's, maybe some do, but barely. Laser Discs, VHS-C, HI-8 camcorders, Commodore or Atari computers? No. Same thing will happen with analog FPV. It's up to us, sort of, but it's really not. Working in the electronics business for decades, I've seen these technologies come and completely go. It happens, and it happens completely. Manufacturers see analog sales sag, and then diminish to such low sales, that they discontinue making it because THEY AREN'T S SELLING ENOUGH TO MAKE ANY MONEY. I said it's up to us, somewhat, but it's really not. Sales will sag to a point where manufacturers can't afford to make it anymore. No sales, no money. They are definitely in it to make money. Analog will completely die and completely go away, and we can't stop new technology. It just the way tech works. New tech comes, it's better than the old tech, and the old tech dies. Expect it. 😎🤘

It's simple supply and demand. No demand, supply ends.

@@KOrnhOliO1 Good point that it possibly wouldn't be compact anymore. I don't know much about goggle construction haha. But again, that could be eliminated if they had a fixed latency mode! However, I disagree that analog will die anytime soon. Perhaps the analog market will die in the us, but in countries where some people can't afford digital, analog will remain king. Besides that point, some tech is good enough to stand the test of time for certain use cases. You're right that people stopped using 8 tracks. But every car still has fm radio
@KOrnhOliO1
@KOrnhOliO1 2 жыл бұрын
@@kelvinwolf225 Sure, every car has FM radio, because it is still current technology...but we must remember...It's all about supply and demand. Manufacturers won't continue to make analog if the demand isn't there. Where is the most demand coming from? I'd guess, the USA, then maybe Europe. So, if digital FPV has, let's say 3 different systems to choose from, I wonder how long it will take before digital FPV in general, has 75% market share? Right now, I've heard reviewers say it already has over 50%, maybe even 60% market share. Heard a few estimate that. So, let do a Bardwell in the future...lol...Let's fast forward 6 months. HDZero's goggles are out and selling well...Dominator goggles are out and killing it...The DJI V3 FPV system is out and also selling a lot. Sure, analog is still available, but not too many are buying analog with 3 great digital systems to choose from, and most all of the new products, and therefore reviews coming out, are for some kind of digital FPV product. What do you guess digital's market share to be in 6 months with these not yet available systems being out for some time now? If market share is now at, let's be conservative and say 50%, with 3 new digital FPV options, conservatively 75%?? So, future Bardwell is now one year ahead of today. lol Another digital FPV system is now out. Not something we know about now. How is analog doing if digital is now at 85% market share and few USA and European buyers are purchasing anything analog? Who knows for sure, but you can see my point. The demand in lesser affluent countries will make little difference! They aren't the ones pushing the current demand for analog FPV. So, even if they are buying analog like hot cakes, will that be enough sales for manufacturers to make enough money on analog to continue offering it for sale? Maybe...just barely? Maybe I'm completely off base and it will continue to sell well through 2025. I just doubt the demand will be there to continue the supply of analog. We have little control over the future of technology. All old tech dies, when new tech becomes so popular, that old tech no longer makes manufacturers enough money. Supply & demand. We'll have to see... :)

There are several groups inside our government pushing for this openly. Licensing the tech to another company is a smart business decision in that it also diversifies their revenue stream further while cutting marketing costs. They don’t care about the clout that comes with changing the game because they already have it. Without such a deal, Fat Shark would have likely disappeared from the market entirely. I am really confused about the digital part of the fpv market. I have been flying FPV for 8-9 years now and my first experience was with connex hd. A system that you cant find anymore. Now I am happily flying with DJI HD and analog (which I still enjoy). The problem I see with digital FPV is the segmentation in the market. Everybody can make an analog vtx and vrx if they want to, there is now even an opensource backing for it. With digital fpv you get locked into an ecosystem and if support for that closed ecosystem stops it dies off. This cost the pilots more money and produces a lot of ewaste. I am still running my hd2's from quite a while back and have been through receiver modules that made them better over time. In short I am afraid off closed ecosystems and the cost this brings with it. I would love to see an hd system which can be implemented by everyone just like ELRS is now for the radio link. I think the future is opensource but someone will need to byte the bullet to make opensource hd happen.

These goggles seem like a huge miss, and the primary issue is being overlooked. High quality mode is 60fps@1080p, and low latency mode is 120fps@720p (same as current DJI tech). Where this falls downhill is the fact the OLED panels chosen are 90hz, which is BAD. DJI picked 120hz panels for a reason. 120hz for 120fps means perfect sync, and 60fps is also a perfect sync because it's double the frame rate. 90hz means you'll never see anything above 90fps, but since 120fps is coming in then you'll be out of sync and need to either hold back frames (introducing latency and lowering the frame rate below 90fps), or have screen tearing. For 60hz this is still a problem, and with holding back frames you'll get between 45 - 55 or so FPS since the sync would never match. This is why with VR technology when the frame rate goes below the panel refresh rate, the systems always half the frame rate so the image stays in sync. This is a huge problem, and a huge downgrade for 120fps low latency users of the current DJI system.

On paper this seems to be the same technology as the current DJI system (putting the goggles themselves aside), except HQ mode has a higher resolution. I'd bet money if you opened it up you'd see the same chips in a single board configuration. I'm a bit annoyed when Caddx promised Canvas mode they'd save it for these instead of the current stack though.

Exciting to have a 3rd digital system to compete and drive the hobby further. I'm shocked that there was no info presented on the VTX. How big is it? How much does it weigh? How many antennas does it have? Will it require new flight controllers? How much voltage? Is it 20x20, whoop or 30x30? Looks like the VTX and camera will cost about the same as a Polar so GetFPV answered one of my questions.

FYI: On Bubby's video he said the VTX / Camera was 19g and the mounting holes were 25x25. So lighter than an Air or Vista and Mounting will work for whoops but might be a challenge on other frames.

From what I'm getting from this thread: FS is using DJI technology and FS will be taking this tech and tweaking it for the FPV racing community. DJI doesn't take requests to better their product for this subset of users and FS will do everything they can to get users what they want performance wise. Sounds like a win-win for us as FS is in this for the long haul as this is what they do. Look at computers each part is basically licensed to subcontract company. Plug in a bunch of sub parts and you have a HP or whatever, hopefully this will all come together better for us in the end whoever's name is on it. Keep us informed JB.

Probably just as simple as the analog tech wouldn't fit in a compact case that gave us digital goggles the same size as we're used to with our analog goggles. There's more to analog than the module. Plus, that module bay takes up quite a bit of room! I think that's the reason. 😎🤘

I fly whoops, I also have a 3 inch and a 4 inch HD quad, It was all LOS at first. The main reasons I bought into the DJI goggles over Fat Shark were 1. I had no FPV hardware previous to the purchase and the buy in cost was the same. 2. DJI was readily available on the used market since everyone was trying to get into the 2.0 goggles. 3. Both analogue and digital are supported. With 2 bits of extra hardware I can have both signals on one set of goggles. At this point if I want to upgrade I need to be able to incorporate both ecosystems in a new headset and replace what I currently have. I understand that digital is the future, but at there are going to be times where it isn't feasible to run one system over the other, and having both options is great. The upgraded screen is fantastic, same with the new features and being able to have the full BF OSD. The issue I have with Dominator HD Is there no option for analogue, and for the company to assume im gonna have another pair of goggles is ridiculous. Ill be sticking with DJI for now.

I agree. This is what the market needs. A market. More players, options, features and competition. I mostly race and fixed low latency is a must. I've opted to stick with analog for now because what I've witnessed from HDZ in a racing environment is still too inconsistent and unpredictable. But for the times I'm not racing I def want HD, or 4K or 8K. Bring it, LOL. This very cool and very feature-laden system now offers me a new set of options. 1080P HD in a very cool goggle package, backed by Fatshark's reputation and service. The VTX and cam seem smaller and neater too. And the price isn't terrible either. There's still more to know, but I already love what this represents for the hobby.

Are you kidding? This is so obviously DJI, just with lightly rebranded UI. I think there several points here: * DJI decided to completely drop FPV and were looking where to dump it * Fatshark was able to get it. Which is great. We have a FPV first company controlling DJI FPV system * Fatshark is doing very childish move to try and draw this as their own invention. I have only one reason for this: they want to sell new air units "incompatible" with "old" unit. With would be 100% bullshit, since it's the same air protocol. I'm 90% sure DJI will not give them full sources for transmission ASICs * So we get very buggy and low quality clone of DJI, with tons of issues for same price as DJI. But with hope for future development I will wait at least a year to see how they develop it, before buying. Pre ordering now is crazy

From what I saw in the video, the video quality es great, the futuristic style of the goggle and the fact that is not bulky makes it very appealing.
