Hedging bets and recommending this system based on its *potential* seems inappropriate to me. At *this* point in time, this system is simply not as solid as DJI, is more expensive, offers lesser video quality, uses a non-standard mounting pattern, and has higher latency. If at some point in the future the situation has improved, fine. Compare the systems again and make an updated recommendation then. You have always expressed irrational hatred towards the DJI system, and now seeing you hype and recommend a similar competing system which offers worse quality at a higher price (and which has higher latency by the way - JB proved this with actual *testing*, and showed the OSD values to be bullshit - funny how someone who always complained DJI latency was too high for their skill level claimed it was better). I can only assume DJI was never willing to pay you enough money to get your endorsement; I guess the only real question is how much cash is Le drib throwing at you? In any case, I think for someone completely on the fence it only makes sense to wait a bit longer to see what DJI's next iteration offers. Analog is almost better than this new system.
@TAGE_FPV2 жыл бұрын
Preach brotha. "You have always expressed irrational hatred towards the DJI system, and now seeing you hype and recommend a similar competing system which offers worse quality at a higher price (and which has higher latency by the way)" - ON POINT. I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that. The lack of objectivity and consistency with these videos is yikes. One other thing that made me laugh is steele saying: "I like to try new things" - self-awareness check = 0. You don't like trying ANYTHING new. it's why you clung to the same system and setup for years when there were way better things in the market.

@@johnfaustus1 Did you notice how he literally could not stop himself from going on a completely unrelated rant about commoners buying cheaper alternatives to Ethix products on Amazon for the faster shipping? @johnfaustus12 жыл бұрын
@@TheDiegoAranda Yup. The real reason Davis is still pushing analog way past its prime is simple: money. Money from several sources but mostly from i) his Ethix shit, ii) kickbacks from Fatshark, iii) sponsors who make accessories. The bottom line is this: if DJI takes over, no one except DJI makes any money. While DJI has an 'ecosystem', it's either a walled-garden or proprietary. The analog time was like the Wild West, and everyone was milking the consumer hard. The game is nearly over.

The obvious difference is the way it handles compression. On DJI it prioritizes the center of the screen and the sides get compressed heavily with a clear picture in the middle, where as this system uses traditional compression aka the whole image is compressed.

@daemn422 жыл бұрын
All that blurriness is just choices made in the video compression algo, and this system appears to be quite different indeed. DJI's image is better with high motion detail, but if you really want max ground detail for low level flying, you can enable Focus mode which dedicates more of the vailable bandwidth to the center of the image and lets the sides be blurry. I wonder if this system will eventually implement something similar. And personally I disagree with Steele's assertion that early DJI was terrible. I flew it plenty before 50Mbps mode came along and it was still pretty great. I flew faster/lower and took more chances shooting gaps on my *first day* flying DJI than I had over years of flying analog. In fact, after a year flying 50Mbps I've gone back to 25Mbps, because it has better NLOS performance, and gives more progressive warning when you're approaching the the limits. Yes you can overwhelm the compression in 25Mbps mode, but it's still a worthwhile tradeoff.
@markuskoarmani13642 жыл бұрын
1 .They seem to lie with latency numbers. 2. DJI blurs left and right side in focus/auto mode and this HD blurs the bottom. I don't think these HD is ready for prime time. They need to workout compression to signal ratio.
@kenchen7042 жыл бұрын
Stele’s high standards for equipment that matches his flying style ofc would consider what you thought was "pretty great" as terrible.
@daemn422 жыл бұрын
@@kenchen704 Cept he's claiming that DJI went through some great evolution over the the last 2-3 years from "terrible" to where it is now, which he admits is better than this new system. I'm saying that simply did not happen. At 25Mbps, DJI was a good then as it is now, which is *still* better than this new system. Yes DJI eventually added 50Mbps which provides better image quality, but it has its limitations (not as good in deep NLOS situations). One thing Steele eventually admitted in another video some time ago, was that he had not actually personally flown the DJI system when it came out. He had the gear in hand, for over a year and didn't touch it. My suspicion is that his first impression was via Audience mode which does not get the retries of the main goggles, and thus it can be pretty "terrible" but that is not the actual piloting experience. It never has been.

HDZero solves both of the latter two: Its compression looks a bit worse when standing still, but it remains like that even when you're moving fast instead of deteriorating into a blurry mess like we see here. It also has 1s boards (and now even a bind & fly 65mm whoop).

Awesome video and dude I must say that I LOVE the Live Audio in the FPV goggles also and i used to love to have one earbud in to be able to hear the drone motors and just get a better idea of what its doing and whats going on to go with the video feed. I feel much more disconnected from the drone now if isnt close by enough to hear it flying since it doesnt have the Live Audio anymore. I got so used to it on my first ever FPV drone, the DJI FPV, and kind of tool it for granted that they would all "obviously" have this, but not.. It had both the Audio recording and the Live Audio through the headphones, which really pissed me off about the new Avata, not having this and it not mentioned anywhere... Like come on, how hard would that of been to add, even if its low quality to keep the video quality better, id rather have the Audio... You dont usually try and fly long range on DJI digital fpv stuff anyway.. Like the Air Units, Avata, FPV, O3 air units, and the vistas now, id much rather have the live audio, then the extra 1/8 mile of range it gave me.. Going far is only good for cruising around bc if youre flying around hard at a park or something and going in and out of gaps, youre bound to hit something eventually and possibly make the drone drop. You dont want the drone a 1/2 mile away when this happens and you have to get to the drone now and the battery will probably be dead by then so thats the end of that flight lol..

yeah, looks like they got some really fancy algorithms run trough those chips to minimize the amount of data sent trough , they seem to only blur flat parts or stuff not so relevant to spacial orientation for FPV , like a bunch of leaves on a branch ain't that important to know to avoid if the whole thing turns into a blob, same for the ground ..but they do not skimp on edge detail and that's why you can still fly trough tree's and such. what i can tell from this is that DJI is at the upper edge of tech that can be used to stream digital , FatShark is on the upper edge of tech for analog and this looks like the middle ground between them with some corners being cut to make it work, with that i mean only taking the important details from DJI like video and compress them way down to achieve analog latency.

I don't fly. BUT, It makes sense to integrate sound using raw onboard data rather than catch all data using sound capture. I know audio can be key for a lot of movement and calculations. If they can sync gyro stats or power draw from the motors to a motor type sound sent to earphones i think that could easily solve the sound issue. No Need for realtime audio, i just dont think its needed. E-motor rpm is the only thing needed to make adjustments for many inputs. I know videos with motor output are a lot more enjoyable cause you can correlate with the pilot a lot more. I think that translates for pilots in active flying.

Love the review Steele! Nice to have an honest unpaid video. Do more long form videos like this, some of us still have the attention span for it! 🤘

I’m honored. I like the longer format stuff too. I think I’ll try more of it. 🙏🏼. Thanks for the support and kind words

Still on analog because the audio situation. Have not flown as much but still no desire to goto HD. DJI for those doong certain commercial work makes sense for breaking out HD for directors to see on scene and not poopoo over analog. DJI also has done a hell of a thing with fixing multipathing and drop out/bluescreens on HD.
