Fatal Ejection Crash Investigation | Houston

11.06.2021 | 11:52 PM | HOUSTON - HPD responded to a major crash.
Officers arrived and located one deceased.
There was a Lincoln MKX with two occupants, they were at a bar prior to the crash.
The driver attempted to exit at Mesa when they missed the exit and struck the barrier.
Then they struck the barrier the vehicle rolled, ejecting one person from the vehicle.
The second occupant was not wearing a seatbelt as well but was not ejected.
The deceased is believed to be a female.

@@diggadirt393 and have they never read a news article about a crash where the victim was THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE, or EJECTED or PARTIALLY EJECTED? Boy, if you can't visualize what THAT means! My granddaughter's driver's ed teacher had news articles on his bulletin oard of TEN of his former students who were killed and not wearing a seatbelt! He said he felt like he wasn't doing enough! I think it's patents! You use a car seat even on the way home from the hospital, you NEVER let anyone in your vehicles that don't wear a seatbelt. You show/tell them what happens when they don't wear a seatbelt! My son had a rebellious few years ad a teenager and STILL wore a seatbelt EVERY TIME. Think how your loved ones would feel if you died for such a STUPID REASON!

Question: with all these ejections, I am wondering if an airbag deploying could eject a smaller person out through a window if they weren’t wearing a seatbelt? I do know that ejection does occur in roll-overs, but airbags pack a pretty powerful punch.

No, there are no airbags that deploy towards the window and they deploy in a fraction of a second on the initial impact. The ejection would just be from the rolling forces.

@@BigStrath I know that they don’t deploy towards the window, I’m thinking more of them pushing a smaller person through to the back seat and out a side window. Like, the propulsion force. I know that the force is enough to decapitate a small child, which is why small children should not sit in the front seat. I’d just never thought of whether or not it could propel an unbelted smaller adult backwards before. And I’m only wondering because not all the ejections have been rollover accidents.

No, you don't sit on top of an airbag. Think about where an airbag deploys. It's supposed to be fully inflated before you reach it, and if for some reason you're in the space it's expanding into, you'll be pushed back into your seat

Seatbelts keep you from being ejected just saying. I see parents that do not buckle their kids up all the time. It’s unfortunate negligence of the parents.

True! I had a Walmart Grocery delivery to my house in which the young woman had 3 young CHILDREN with her and none were in any kind of seats or seat belts. I made several phone calls that day and as far as I know nothing was ever found out about this happening. I even called a local officer and was told that if I didn't have a license plate number nothing would ever come of it. I've never had her for a delivery person again.
