Having only really watched this video and knowing very little about Fatal Fury, Rock is my favorite character. The Black/Pink drip is immaculate and his moveset looks dope AF.

When Mai was doing a blockstring vs Preecha would have been a great time for Max to pause and show exactly what he wanted to. they basically ended up at similar rev gauge levels forcing both of them closer into overheat. The thing is Preecha can just defense/hyper defense any time to drop her rev gauge and Mai can drop hers by doing non-EX moves. Preecha can also guard cancel, though unlike MOTW it will cost her a resource, rev meter, similarly she can rev guard to push Mai further back and counterpoke her if she autopilots her string. I think we'll start seeing this "pay now or pay later" mentality in COTW defense very soon, especially if Koichi has more exhibition matches with people.

Tbh I think this one might be the one to boost Fatal Fury back up again. Mainly because of the SNK & Capcom crossovers. Mai is coming out on SF6 in the Winter then directly after in the Spring, this game releases. Good marketing moves in terms of release windows. And not to mention that Ken and Chun-li are also coming to this game. Terry has already brought in a number of people's attention to CotW after just coming out on SF6 too.

It's because they wanted to show Mai off in this build, and this was the theme Mai had in her last Fatal Fury appearance 26 years ago, which hasn't been used since. I'm not a fan of it either, but they've used her other themes a bunch so I guess they figured it was finally time to bring this back.

Like fatal fury is basically SNK street fighter just look at inputs even. Like you’re not doing half circle into quarter circles or pretzel motions it’s just double quarter circles forward or backwards and a punch or kick. Which works out perfectly for me honestly.

I love the in game announcer announcements for the in game happenings like counter hit and cross ups etc. I always struggled with confirming counter hits specific tech because you would have to confirm visually which is hard mid combo/hit confirm.

More so than sharing a lot of similarities with SF6 from the general passerby that's not going to be so engaged, it would be great beyond all the amazing defensive mechanics to also separate themselves from that perception by bringing back Real Bout 2 levels of base movement and jumps arcs. It will really open up the conversation between the players. And tone down the damage! This game can be special!

I'm glad all these fighting games aren't being pumped out left and right to see what sticks like in the 90s/2000s. Alot of these are getting the love attention and care they need and deserve. I don't mind waiting 2-4yrs for the next KoF if it means better polish and more unique titles in between that deserve the love and care they didn't get due to older budget or time constraints. I hope they do look back at old unique titles and release em in between major/mainlines(i.e. snks less popular fighting games on a year they don't release a fatal fury or kof, samsho is a fun example), i wouldn't mind a little less balance if they get love elsewhere and are different and fun. I'd like to see SNKs crack anime/hyper fighters in a modern setting, someone take a crack at the 3D scene because Tekken is alone and SC, VF, DoA are all dead.

Mai looks great in action, but I can't shake the feeling that her new default outfit feels like an alt. It's kinda just a generic "sexy lady in leather" look. Other than the flared sleeves, it doesn't have any distinctive ninja-ness to it. I'm also missing the secondary motion from her classic costume's belts (the bits that hang down in the back), which actually factors into her Ryuuenbu. Without it, that animation is literally missing something. I don't need Mai to be showing tons of skin, but there must have been another pass in the rough draft which was more dignified for a mature woman while preserving her ninja identity. 😕
