An explanation about how to position and predict Fatty's attacks I gave as an answer for anyone curious. Question: How do you distance yourself? I find it hard to predict what Fatalis is gonna do next Answer: In short, stand right in front of his head, slighty to the side. To predict what attack he does, listen to Audio Cues and look at attack animation. To punish effectively and not cart, don't attack Fatty indiscriminately. Identify Fatty's attack and react accordingly by evading or punishing as shown in the video. Long explanation: Typically, it's best to stand right in front of his head, slighty to the right or left. You can see me doing this in the "Small Openings" section. This position is great because 1) it allows you to quickly go into any of the positions needed for the punishes showed in the video, 2) allows you to reposition into a safe zone, and 3) you can bait attacks like the Cone. Most of the time, rather than predicting, you react to what attack the monster starts and act accordingly by either evading or punishing. But to have enough time for that decision, you'll need to know what attack the monster is initiating. To quickly identify what attack the monster starts, you can look at the Attack Animation, or listen to the Audio Cues. Best way to learn this is by practice. To get a feel for it, you can go solo into the quest, leave your palico behind, and turn your music volume down. Run around the monster without attacking, and just listen and look at what the monster does. If you prefer, I also have videos for both Audio Cues (Fatalis Audio Cues) and attack animations (Moveset Guide) in my channel. Going into more detail, looking at what state Fatty is in will help you narrow down what moves he can do. This is where knowledge about Fatty's attack patterns are required. These states are 2 legs stance/4 legs stance/aeriel/platform/bunker/mount, current Phase, and enraged/non-enraged. Most important are 2 legs and 4 legs stance, and most attacks are exlusive to one of them. For example, Fatty can only do the Charged Fireball on 4 legs and Cone on 2 legs. Enrage state changes a few moves. For example when enraged, Fatty flies after a Charged Fireball, and Triple Fireballs deals more dmg and gets a larger blast radius. What Phase you are in also changes some attacks and add new ones. Player position also matters for what attack Fatty is allowed to do. He'll only initiate an attack, if the target is within the attack range when the attack animation begins. For example, Fatty will only do a cone if you (or your teammates) stand in front of him, but not if you stand besides or behind him. By knowing Fatty's state and player position, you can narrow down the possible attacks Fatty can do to only a few. If you wanna learn more about attack patterns of all Fatty's attack, I've shown most in my Fatalis Moveset Guide. For even more detail, you can anticipate what attacks Fatty will do based on who he is targeting. Unless you play solo, Fatty will constantly shift his target around on all players and palicos. If you see who Fatty is targeting, you can use Fatty's current state and the target's position relative to Fatty to predict his next attack. For example, Fatty stands on 2 legs and attacks you. Your teammate runs around at the other side of the arena. Suddenly, Fatty turns around and faces towards your teammate. With that in mind, Fatty can only do one of 5 attacks: The Cone, Single Fireball, Triple Fireball, Line Explosion, or Charge attack. If he does the Cone, you might wanna try helping your teammate. Using above information, you can predict or "bait" an attack. Let's look at a scenario as an example. It's Phase 1. Fatty stands on 2 legs and is enraged. You stand right in front of him, about a roll away from his head. From this position, Fatty can do the following attacks: Forward Flame, Single Fireball, Triple Fireball, Line Explosion, Charge, Zigzag Flame, and Cone. Fatty starts his attack, where he takes his head back and does a "breath in" Audio Cue. This indicates Single Fireball or Triple Fireball. You run towards his chest and under his head for the safezone, and for an eventual punish. He shoots the first fireball and continues for another fireball. This indicates the attack is Triple Fireball, and you punish his head as shown in the video. For me, most punishes follow this logic. If you know all of this information, you can go even further and take a gamble. Unlike the openings shown in the video, these punishes are not entirely reaction based and relies on luck. For example, if you stand behind Fatty and he does a Tail Slam, he will sometimes slowly turn around after the attack. So with good position, you can roll to the side to evade the Tail Slam and prepare TCS with Slinger Burst. If he turns around slowly, you can land a TCS on his head.

The amount of work required to put out something of this quality is phenomenal. The way things get explained/shown has made me reconsider how I presented stuff in guides I've made. I've been sharing this video whenever I can, it's criminal how low the view count is. I hope it gets the visibility it deserves, if not just so that people can understand and appreciate what an actually good matchup guide looks like. Your hard work is definitely appreciated by everyone who's seen this!

One of the things i figured out by myself is that you sheathe your weapon faster when you roll forward rather than sideways/backwards after an attack, that way you have time to superman dive when he does the charged fireball/fly combo. I learned it the hard way after I kept getting carted by that attack when I punish his small openings/big bites while on his 4 legs.

21:50 If you're early on the knockdown (usually happens when your team breaks the head), you can sneak in a LV 2 strong charge slash. LV 1 charge slash -> LV 2 strong charge slash -> Lv 3 TCS -> roll tackle -> side blow -> slinger burst -> Lv 3 TCS. It's a small 29 motion value advantage (250~ more damage?). It only works during phase 1 and 2, when you break Fatalis' head during phase 3, she recovers 1~ second faster. Also I didn't know when you spam draw slash after a roll it would come out slower! I was wondering why it was so inconsistent. Thanks for the guide!

How can i know if the firesweep is going forward or backward? Another question,just to make sure,fatalis doesn't have stationary firesweep right(like alatreon's fire sweep)?
@kimmi4242
@kimmi4242 Ай бұрын
What determines whether Fatty walks forward or backwards is dependant on Fatty's distance to the target. If target is far away, Fatty walks forward. If target is close, Fatty backwalks On 4 legs, it is not possible for Fatty to do the Firesweep stationary. He may back up into a corner, in which he appears to be stationary. Fatty does have another version of Firesweep on 2 legs, where he is stationary. Fatty will only do this attack if the target stands on the Cannon platform, or the Dragonator Platform. More in depth: There is a specific distance for this. In code, the cutoff is 1000 units. If the target is less than 1000 units away, Fatty will walk backwards. Distance is a bit hard to measure in game, so I will use Fatty as a measurement. The distance between his crotch and his ear flaps is about 1000 units. The cutoff for Firesweep is 2500 units. So from his head, imagine the cutoff is about 1 and a half Fattys away.

6:00 the zigzag flame tcs is too inconsistent for me most of the time hitting the chest or being too late. Is there a way to improve?
@kimmi4242
@kimmi4242 5 ай бұрын
If it's only the timing that needs improvement, then I think you just need some more practice to get consistent. If not already, it might be helpful for you to look for a sign on Fatty for when to let go of the TCS. In my video, I use his forearms touching the ground as a sign. I let go just before his second forearm touches the ground. But feel free to do some micro adjustments, as we all can have different reaction speed for recognising the sign (or game/input lag) and letting go of the attack button.

@kimmi4242
@kimmi4242 7 ай бұрын
Do you mean the timing for when to let go of TCS? If so you can look at his head movement. After he stops spewing fire, his head will do a small turn to the opposite side, and then return to facing straight forward. Let go of the TCS when he his head hits the other side, just before it returns to a straight position.

@kimmi4242
@kimmi4242 7 ай бұрын
@@AomineDaiki_Zone when you miss, is it because you are standing too far away or too close to the head? Or are you missing bc you turned the attack too much to one of the sides? His head will end up a bit further back where his crotch is when his neck gets straight while spewing fire. Roll into his crotch at the latest when his neck straightens to have enough time for TCS3. Aim the TCS towards where Fatty's chest is after the draw slash (shortly after his neck gets straight) as shown in the video. His head will end up there. If it helps, you can see a top down perspective of the whole Fire Sweep attack in my Fatalis Moveset Guide video. Then you can compare where his head ends relative to any point, e.g., when his neck straightens.
